That doesn't look terrible to be honest, just the back made it look a lot more extreme.
I think it will look pretty solid in a few weeks when your hair has grown some.

If you are up for rolling with it for a while make sure you actually shave the back of your head by the way, having all that stubble there looks pretty awful. If you are worried about accidentally clipping your hair there have like a friend or relative do it for you. Also get some nice product that adds some texture to your hair but only has low hold so your hair doesn't go all over the place like in that picture. I have little experience with that stuff so I'll leave it to someone else to recommend something

Looks to me like you got what you asked for. You are not going to look 100% like the pic because it is a drawing. Put some product on your hair, to give it a wet look like the cartoon, and style it in a messy way to resemble the pic.

I have the same haircut as you and I sort of look like that when I step out of the shower.
