hi friend. before you go into stores you like you should first look at inspiration pics online for what you like so the experience becomes less overwhelming. also if you're just starting to make a wardrobe for youself you should start with basics that fit your body well (black, navy and dark grey pants, t shirts and sweaters in neutral colours like grey, white and black, a good coat) before getting more interesting stuff
here are some good steps:
1. look at the clothes you already have and decide what you like and fits you well (makes you feel confident).
2. decide what you would like to wear (look at photos online, do research) and whay you need. make a list on what you need to buy.
3. go to the store and shop by category (e.g. pants, shirts, sweaters) and then try on everything before buying. try to have a shopping buddy with you and ask their opinion. you can also ask the shop workers.
4. buy what you can afford.
5. get rid of the clothes you can replace with your new clothes

Mostly this but you should save your old clothes to sleep in.

Same actually, I've only bought clothes for myself a couple times in my life, and even them it was with either my parents or grandparents. Most of my clothes were either bought by my stepmom or are leftovers from my dad and my 10cm-taller-than-me cousin.
