I'm interested in trying something. Since I noticed people commented on my fits a lot in whatever that thread was, what would people think of doing a literal dress-up game? I'd have to catalogue what I actually own for the benefit of people that don;t save all my pictures (you weirdos), but it would be kinda interesting to see what people come up with. hey, the old boot thread is autosage and the new one hasn't caught on yet so I'll try here.
I have some vintage combat boots that I think are pretty common but if they'd get a collectable price I'd want to sell them.
The best reason they'd be valuable is that they're an odd size:
>13 narrow
otherwise they're old but nothing too special:
>US Ro-Search
>stamped 1971
>11 eye
>all-leather, black
>chevron tread pattern w/Ro-Search logo and size stamp
condition:
>lots of "patina", a few places scraped the grain kinda deep against a rock or w/e but leather still solid
>tread shows some wear but chevron pattern still fully intact
I got them NOS at a thrift for cheap and it took for-fucking-ever to break them in so if they're common I'd just assume keep them. These usually go for $35-80. But they're heavy as hell and I've seen some go for really high prices (maybe because they were Korea-era?) so if mine are valuable I'll sell 'em no problem.
Also, should I sell with patina or polish them up?

The sizing is MESSED UP on these.

I am a size 36'' Chest and I am wearing a size EXTRA LARGE regular in these photos.... That's just weird.

Something is up with the sizing scale - I tried on 5+ Jackets at the shop and the difference in tightness and cut even between jackets of the same size classification (E.G. SmallReg) was crazy. The Canadian army has some stuff they need to figure out :P

As someone from a former Soviet republic, I'll never cease to be amazed at how guys from well-off Western countries obsess over what are essentially ultra-cheap work duds. People here wore shitty felt boots and padded jackets because nothing else was available. As soon as the USSR collapsed and markets were flooded with hand-me-downs from Europe, everyone geared up in brand name ski parkas and whatnot, leaving the primitive old Soviet-made clothing behind.

From me, the quality of western clothing is shite for the most part. It doesn;t have to last and it doesn't have to perform in weather outside of scurrying from one building to another. I'd rather take something that had to be durable and effective by necessity. Plus you know, they look kinda rad.

Living costs and wages will always fall into a ratio (unless you live in a genuinely poor country), I don't know why people don't check before moving. We get a lot of poles in our houseshare because they looked at the wages and the eyes lit up with dollar signs, only to then realize that a one bedroom flat rent can eat up half your income. Not to mention tax and VAT.

This is the smallest size I could find and the belt cinch had to be cinched way tighter than it is designed to in order to obtain the still-too-bulky silhouette seen here.

I also like the collared one more. Here is what I'm planning on ordering

Also, what size would you recommend for a 5'10, roughly 75kg male? I'm confused by the size system because I'm a pleb who only orders with S, M, L etc. I usually order large for jackets.

I can vet schuster - they're a good brand.
Slow turnaround and communication though, be prepared for that. Add Julia Gorbat on facebook - she's the coordinator and will get you your stuff faster.

As for sizing they use a 1 -2 -3 system.
Mine is a soviet size 3, which is about a M.

I can't reccomend you a size but I am a size 36'' chest and mine is a size 3, so judge the fit by the pics above.

Schuster does custom work for not a lot more money, so I'd just recommend contacting Julia and she'll make sure you get the right size based on measurements you give her.

I copped mine from eBay for $50 USD. I haggled a soviet surplus owner down from$100.

I don't have any pics of it untightened or with baggier stuff right now but it would look pretty retrofuture that way (think Cowboy Bebop).

I once saw an oldtimer in Amsterdam coasting around on his bike with one and I was starstruck, so I bought mine shortly thereafter.

Size 1 and 2 are incredibly rare. Sellers (mostly) don't have them any more and the people who bought them early on want too much for them.

Best bet if you're slim and want a telo is to
A) Buy one from schuster
B) Buy one from a seller that is too big and take it apart, rebuild it at proper size after adjusting the pattern to fit.

To speak to your earlier point - I wear shit like this and I've worn it in London and Amsterdam and Belgrade as well as in several airports inbetween. (I'm using these cities as a metric because you seem to think bigger city = worse reaction to civilians wearing army gear)
I also live near/in a major city in my province and I never have any trouble. From my perspective you clearly have no experience dressing this way and so you don't know what you're talking about.

The reaction that you think people are having to my clothing is unique to you alone OR people have had it so infrequently I haven't noticed.
