What is Lunarcore?

While there is no specific definition of it I like to think of as:

Wearing clothing that use non-conventional materials and patterns to create outfits that look like they could be worn in space or the future.

Lunarcore takes major inspiration form sci fi movies such as
-Alien movies
-blade runner
-star wars
-mad max

gonna post a bunch of fits from the last couple threads and some general inspo where my lunar bois at?

You could try the cheap route 1st which is just using a modded canvas shoe like converse or PF Flyer or a "No Name" brand canvas sneaker that's all white or all grey or beige and cut and sew on canvas fabric straps instead of laces, or using D shaped ring eyelets like from ALIEN or sewing canvas cargo pockets on the side or sewing on extra canvas to the ankles to make them into thin canvas boots or whatever..

- [Long fitted tank top or short sleeved T-shirt?] >Mesh? Ribbed? Cargo pockets?

- [Canvas or Aquasock shoes?]
>Low or Hightop?
>Velcro straps?
>D-ring Eyelets like Alien?
>Cargo pockets?
>Canvas materials sewn onto tongue and ankle to make different layers? Or more of a canvas boot?

to add

messenger bags?
>cargo pockets? etc
maybe like add straps to a really big cargo pocket so you can fit lot of things inside it and carry it around your body? just a though
add loops to cargo pocket so you can attach it to a belt and have cargo pockets on your belt
necklace with cargo pocket? is it even possible?
wristbands with, get this, cargo pockets? I don't know I'm just freeballing
cargo pockets with sandals attached to them so you can carry around your cargo pockets on your feet? sounds pretty convenient I don't know
maybe like cargo pocket that has smaller cargo pocket on it so when it's empty you can stuff it in the smaller cargo pocket so it's easier to carry around in one of your cargo pockets for when you need extra cargo pocket?

no, those are cyberpunk and post apocalyptic

Lunar core originally was heavily inspired by the Alien franchise's aesthetic which meant it had a 70s/80s-centric futuristic design.
Lunarcore isn't just "dressing like the future" it's a bit more specific than that because depending on the decade you take influence form you could end up with a fit that looks more retro-futuristic like 2001: a space Odyssey or planet of the apes.

A lot of good lunarcore fits achieve this by mainly incorporating techwear, workwear and military pieces.
It has to have a very practical look to it otherwise it just comes off as space-influenced instead of actually looking like the fit belongs in space.

>> No.13157050

>>13155089
techwear is too controlled and restricted.
Lunarcore was mainly influenced by Alien which has the cast dressed up as normal people in the future instead of ninjas from the future.
this is why lunarcore is easier to wear in public, it stands out enough while also looking practical.

There are plenty of options, because a lot of this stuff is founded in the aesthetic of the utilitarian. I noticed in ALIEN (and other flicks) that all the characters except the android (ash) had garments or accessories that reflected aspects of their humanity like, one woman's pairing of cowboy boots with pants like those in pic related. that's a choice that's up to you, but as a woman you already have the freedom get away with more if you just carry it right.
Super utilitarian orbital fatigues need never be unbecoming of a woman. I've seen it pulled it off just fine, more than once.
It really does look neat on women if they rock it unabashedly.

Venuscore is going to be more of a sci-fi safari theme. Camoflage, color palette with khaki, sulphur and mustard yellows, od green, and abundance of predator style MESH. And maybe some sort of gas mask to help with the toxic atmosphere.

If you really wanna do this don't just look at bane for inspo.
Contemporary superhero movies like to take villains away from their cartoony forms and design them to look a lot like terrorists.
This is because after 9/11 the US and by extension hollywood started using terrorists as a means of creating a threat for people to fear.

SO basically banecore is actually terrorwave.

Taken outside the context of this thread, nothing about those fits indicates that you're on the moon rather than, say, Siberia or a Russian submarine, or a Village People concert. >(Part 1)

Lunarcore is a utilitarian style.
Lunarcore has ELEMENTS from milspo/workwear/futuristic&tech pieces that make this look the way it is.

None of his costumes (yes costumes not outfits) are at all related to lunarcore aesthetics.
The Only loose thread it has is that it's purely milspo and cringey costume milspo at that, there are some pieces in them that if separated and incorporated into modern or futuristic lunarcore aesthetics pieces MIGHT work to make a cool lunarcore fit

But just blatantly throwing on a full on ww1 or ww2 milspo ONLY costume, then saying it's "lunarcore" isn't lunarcore..

Lunarcore takes aesthetics from many styles and when done correctly doesn't look like a costume and the common pleb on the street will like it and not be able to figure out why.

It's futuristic and alien enough for it to be "mysterious" or "different" and cool, but down to earth enough that it doesn't look like you're larping as a tech ninja or robot or wearing a costume or having your clothes "wear you" so to speak..

Like I said I'm tired as fuck and don't have the time to go fully into the mentality and mindset, feeling and philosophy of what lunarcore is, that's what Psuedo/Poet is here for since he lives for that stuff and loves explaining the feelings and philosophy behind it and can explain much more intricately and thoroughly than I..

Lunarcore is loose enough, (read "loose" NOT the wild west where you thow on a medieval tunic and some rubber boots and say it's lunarcore when it's obvious it's not even in he same relm let alone the same style)

That it gives you enough freedom to DiY pieces or go to thrift shops and look for certain pieces that may go very well with a potential fit, or to your local Military Surplus and use specific PIECES (not entire old world soldier costumes that look like WW1&2 with nothing modern enough with it to contrast it)

>(Part 2)

When you put too much of ONE style in, esp one's that look very out of place in society, like milspo. Esp OLD milspo, you usually heavily risk turning a potential lunarfit into JUST that style you're heavily wearing, and it's not rocket science (excuse the pun) to figure that out.

If for example I decided to wear 1980s ultra neon super short shorts and knee socks and hightop sneakers and a 80s style cropped baggy sweater and an 80s style t-shirt or tank, and 80s style sunglasses what would you think my style is?

Would you think:
>A) think it's some 1980s retro style fit?
>B) think that it's an amazing lunarcore outfit?
>C) think it's a hardcore milspo fit?

Most of you and almost every pleb on the street would think it's A and for good reason.

No one in their right mind would think that its B or C because it quite frankly would be down right mentally retarded to do so.

So my case in point is, just like with ANY style there are distinct elements, rules & guidelines that make up that specific style.

And luckily as I myself am an artist and love creating and making things, lunarcore is flexible & loose enough that you can get by with creating neat little fits with individual pieces that you've personally made by hand, or safari hunted for months at a thrift shop, or found that ONE cool utilitarian PIECE from your local Military Surplus store for cheap, OR if you have the dosh buying that random designer piece that pushes your fit to the nxt lvl.

>>13162025
And your gross over simplification of lunarcore is insulting and it obviously shows just how new you are to this style just like those plebs over on Reddit that think >"it's JUST pale techwear dood"

This is probably why everyone is harping on you because you don't even care about the style let alone "get it" and think you can just throw on anything you want no matter how ridiculous because in your head "it's all the same man who cares dood, im being c r e a t i v e"

So either post actual lunarcore outfits, pieces, designs or inspo, or just kindly fuck off back to shitting up your milspo threads where half the anons there don't even care for your actual real deal larping and costume dress up and greasy hair.

We welcome everyone that actually CARES to actually LEARN and appreciate and love, and post about this style.

But DON'T be surprised when many of us get pissed off, or lose our patience when you insult our style that MANY of us really love and care about, and spend days or weeks or months planning a single fit or piece around, to only then have some autistic milspo costume larper tell us why we're the ones who are wrong and not you who has zero experience or understanding of this style or even bother to give a shit about it or "get it" and don't even try to be humble and learn from archives and anons that have enjoyed this style for a long time and slowly figure out what works and what doesn't.

I've never seen one single person shit up a lunarcore thread so badly, these threads are supposed to be fun and informative and c o m f y because everyone wants to learn and figure out that important balance between futurism & wonder, and believability & practicality in the real world,
and figuring out the best balance and what works and what doesn't and playing with ideas and being humble enough to realize that your idea might be cool but might not work for this style.

There is no hard guide because every lunarcore fit is a (read) LITTLE different
Not an entire fashion style different

It's like you don't know how read anything ive said
This style has a general guideline and feeling you want to aim for which means things like ww2 only costumes isn't gonna make sense contextually and obviously wouldn't be lunarcore at all

If lunarcore was THAT loose then my 1980s retro fit analogy would be lunarcore and this style wouldn't have literally any identity at all

You seem to confuse "no definitive guides" as "no guides and rules at all" which means you must have zero reading comprehension or see only what you want to read.

Look through the fucking archive and take a look at the inspo and fits, they're not all the same but they all have the same FEELING and elements to them because they're ALL PART OF THE SAME STYLE, which is what a general is for.

Hey guys, long-time lurker here. I've spent the past two years building a wardrobe of black milspo/grunge, but lately I've been looking at lunarcore and I'd like to steer in that direction.
Is it possible to do a variant of lunarcore with lots of black or is it just gonna become techwear? I'm really not fond of white clothing and yellow/mustard doesn't fit with my skin color.

Here's a quick summary of my wardrobe:
jackets(all black):
-bomber
-cargo jacket
-racer leather jacket
-oversized fishtail-parka (lined)

tops:
-loose t-shirts in black, tan and green
-a few sweatshirts in black and green

bottoms:
-black skinny jeans
-two biker jeans, one in a washed black that is turning grey and another in black that is coated
-black h&m zespy-knockoff

shoes:
-bundeswehr pilotenstiefel
-adidas tubular nova pk black
-Mil-tec desert combat boots in coyote

backpacks:
olive mil-tec us assault pack
black mil-tec assault pack laser cut
black mil-tec assault pack one-strap small

I usually wrap my face in a black/grey shemagh when it is cold enough, but I am working on sewing a black neck gaiter to replace it.

I've also been thinking about buying a new backpack. I am currently deciding between a used alice-pack medium or a bundeswehr Jägerrucksack.

I'd like some advice and pointers from people more experienced in this style.

that camo is dope af, but not very lunarcore imo.
Actually, I think this discussion could be benificial here.
Camo patterns, particularly on trousers, give off a very aggressively military vibe. Lunarcore is a retrofutureist aesthetic based around space exploration in the 1960s and 70s, which was a civilian project carried out by military aviators. Where does this mix of civilian/military/aviation leave us? Lets look at the source. In vintage NASA photos you will see military elements such as nomex flight suits, flight jackets, aviation-grade OD green nylon webbing, and parachute buckles. What you won't see is camouflage patterns, since camo is for infantry grunts and has no place in space.
Now lets examine the sci-fi aspect of lunarcore. The aesthetic draws heavily on the film Alien. There is no camo in Alien, the only military elements are strictly aviation oriented. Even in the heavily militaristic sequel, Aliens, only the infantry wears camouflage.
Finally, Lunarcore is a utilitarian style so lets consider the practical aspects. Is there a ground war taking place on the moon? Maybe there could be. But the moon is not massive enough to maintain an atmosphere, so any ground combat would require things like armored vehicles, powerarmor, or at the very least pressurized space suits. camouflage clothing would be completely useless, since you couldn't walk around on the lunar surface in it anyway.
My takeaway from all this is that if you want to incorporate military elements in your lunarcore fit, focus on aviation-oriented pieces. Olive green is great, but camouflage patterns should be used sparingly if at all.

To add, there is a book that goes into detail about a lot of the hows and whys involved in zero grav combat and traditional ground assault in an age of heat signatures and LIDAR. Specifically, what camo where.

TLDR My takeaway from its lengthy exploration of Zero-G avionics/warfare is that camo is largely ineffective in space because heat signatures. Outside of certain combat & test pilots, only ground grunts wear camo. The cavalry does as it pleases, to a degree.

Fun fact, the camo pattern worn by the marines in Aliens was unique and designed by James Cameron hisself. With like, markers and shit.

Saved, thank you very much.
I might still cop those cargos. since I also think that camo is dope, but that'll probably be it and I'll try to get comfortable with some more greens and browns for pants and jackets.

Just wanted to say that you've got some killer fits.

Speaking of mars, that's probably the direction I'll go for, since browns and tans fit me much better than white and greys. Would those be appropriate for lunarcore threads? There was a mars-thread recently, but it died fast.

These are insane tight! I'm all about swapping patches out on certain things lately via velcro - I found jackets & bags from the US military, G-Star and Maxpedition that have velcro spots in diff places. you can swap patches in & out as desired, or go without. It's my fav little detail to fuck around with lately.

>>13164933
It's only 16 bucks or so, and the nature of the book is that you'll read it ten times over. What fascinated me about it (among many things) was that there were design problems, physics problems and infinite hypotheticals facing the production designers and they somehow capped it all. There are things, like the APC in Aliens, that were designed down to the last bolt and drawn over and over and over that you may see for thirty seconds in the movie itself. The physics of a Power Loader. Shit like that.

I mean, I'm a massive dweeb so I dig that shit. Hope you do as well. I've never seen lore so finely parsed.

>>13164920
You can fit it in with lunarcore, IMHO. The narratives proposed by both traditional and more advanced/esoteric interpretations of the style are similar enough to accommodate both extremes and anything in between.

That patch unfortunately doesn't have velcro on the back, but i got my girlfriend to sew a strip of velcro to it. I've put it above this one. Doesn't necessarily fit into space, but the colors match, I wanted to commemorate Chester and most people can't really read the font on first glance and think it's something asian.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. It might take some time till I'll contribute fits, since I am picky about what I spend my money on(student), but this style has reignited my passion for fashion, after all-black-fashion has worn me down a bit.

I'm the one who asked. That's very generous of you! I actually am 10.5 US Mens and I've read that these boots run true to size. I wasn't necessarily planning on buying any until closer to summer, it's still damp winter weather where I'm at right now. I do have some summer fits planned in the works. You can post them on Grailed tomorrow and whichever one of us gets to em first can have them! If I get them then great, if not I won't be heartbroken. Promise!

I do like the faded grungy element they've got going on, but I've been seeking hi-tops so I can tuck my SPACE PANTS into them. That and the colorway is more distressed orange than khaki which is cool but doesn't work with the fit I'm planning.
