To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Roja Parfums Enigma. The scent is extremely ReFiNeD, and without a solid grasp of HaUtE pErFuMeRy, most of the RaReSt RaW mAtErIaLs® will go over a typical peasant's head.

>Asking about feminine frags in /fa/.

Has anyone got an opinion on Dior Poison or Hypnotic Poison?

I haven't had a chance to test them yet, but the notes SOUND good - But I have a thing for frags that have a few distinct notes rather than a jumble of accords.

My regular frags are
>Elizabeth Arden Blue Grass
Sunny fields of clover and lavender, drys down to fresh dried hay.
>Paco Rabanne Olympea
Straight salt, vanilla and jasmine.
>Paco Rabanne Black XS.
Dark chocolate, cranberry and dark lacquered wood.

I don't have any personal experience with either Poison, but I follow the same rules with feminine as I do with masculine fragrances - always be suspicious of perfumes introduced before 2010 due to reformulation. Hypnotic Poison has been reformulated several times, and it does not perform like it used to:

https://www.fragrantica.com/board/viewtopic.php?id=60176

If you're still interested in Hypnotic Poison (and American), Fragrancenet appear to still have a single 30 ml bottle of the previous packaging / reformulation available as of right now.

Unrelated to the Dior discussion, I just received a tester of Lancome Oud Bouquet and it might be your kind of scent - Prailine, Oud, Rose, Vanilla, Saffron. Easily digested, ultra smooth, and very potent in its Eau de Parfum formulation ($45 on notino).

I bought the 100 ml bottle. It lasts pretty long on me, at least a good 8 hours. Decent projection, though not a monster. Dries down after a couple hours into this really nice sandalwood/incense scent with just the least bit of sweetness and florals.

I’m enjoying it. Probably was reckless to blind buy 100 mls, but’s it’s semi-limited and I just had to have it. Turned out to be a good buy.

I should say, if you’re looking for a heavy, sweet, syrupy scent, you’ll be disappointed. It’s deceptively light despite having so many traditionally heavy notes. The sweetness is rather subtle.

>> No.13086557

Incense and sandalwood have coincidentally been the themes of some recent purchases (Silver Bond and E04) so I'll definitely enjoy this as well. Thanks for the additional thoughts and the recommendation.

Yeah, you’ll probably like it then. Give it a try, see what you think. I got samples of Maxed Out and Dark Heart of Old Havana, as well. Maxed Out wasn’t for me because of the cumin note, but Havana was really nice. That one is a pretty syrupy-sweet gourmand bomb. Might grab a bottle.

Pretty impressed with the house so far. Seems like she makes a lot of fun, good-quality scents.

Not him, but there are heaps of great honey tobacco fragrances out there. Avant Garde is great. My favourites are:

Lagerfeld Cologne (old version)

My favourite honey is currently pic related, although it has no tobacco in it.

I was given Platinum Egoist as my first perfume ever by an aunt. I really like it still, even though it lasts no time at all. It has the same dna as Chanel Eau de Cologne in that right off the bat, it smells pleasant and inoffensive, but it dries down to a velvety smooth texture that envelopes your skin luxuriously.

I admire Egoist for its history (and the legendary ad) but it's very pungent, gets to my throat and makes me nauseous very quickly. Certainly is a unique gattaca, but I have no idea why it does this.

I don't know the parfum never came off as something that couldn't be worn daily to me. The parfum is much more orangey to my nose and seems perfect for warmer days, while the Edt is an earthy scent that's appropriate almost year round.

Oh and also just one more point - perfume concentration is usually reserved for fancier things, and is also more common with women's fragrances (at least in my limited experience). So if you just mean perfume in general, don't let that fool you. Concentration doesn't say anything about how formal a scent is or isn't. There are EdTs I wouldn't dream of wearing unless I was in a tux while other high concentrations that I'd wear just around. (TdH being one of them.)

So I don't think I get it.

As a bias I don't like expensive scents that don't last for a while unless I REALLY like the scent. I like rocky mountain wood because it is a cheap wood scent that lasts all day on my skin. At the recommendation of frag I decided to try this. It's a pretty good scent, I like the pepper notes that change in intensity throughout but the longevity isn't great imo. For what it goes for and the hype it receives I suppose I expected it to last. I'm not crazy about the scent but maybe I just need to apply more so I can smell it longer.

Still, though, I don’t get why that faggot’s do autistic about Roja. It’s not like there are tons of people here constantly shilling his stuff. His scents barely get talked about for the most part, unless it’s someone being autistic. I mean, it’d be like constantly making threads on /tv/ about a movie no one saw that’s never mentioned. Not that anon but I think anything excessively sharp and one note is considered synthetic since most synthetics are singular molecules, so maybe that's how it has become associated.

Personally I only use the "synthetic" descriptor if something smells harsh, linear and just have a presence about it that feels man made in a lab, you can't put your finger on it but it just feels that way.

Not saying thats the case for everything, some people think a rose synthetic with a floral aroma smells more "natural" to them and their imagination of rose when comported to the absolutes which can have their own facets e.g. peppery undertones or even citrusy ones.

Exactly. It smells cheap and low quality? Say that. That has nothing to do with the notes being synthetic, it has to do with them being cheap, low quality shit.

>> No.13097635

Every time I see a reviewer say something is synthetic I automatically shut it off. Same as when they start with the reformulation stuff. Sometimes I enjoy a scent one day and not so much the next day, and it's the same bottle. The average pleb on fragrantica, basenotes, YouTube is just rehashing other reviews anyway. You remember taking online classes and having to summarize a reading assignment? Instead of reading you go look at 2 or 3 other summaries and fabricate your own to be similar. It's like that.

>> No.13097659

>>13097635

I'd say if its an experienced reviewer that has a lot of vintages and intimately knows a fragrance, then their opinion should carry weight.

It's a valid concern if someone is a buyer that cares about value, for example if a fragrance commands a certain price and is subsequently reformulated specifically to maximise profits and maintains the same price or maybe i even raised, then people should know about it.

If you don't really worry about that kinda stuff then fair enough.

Honestly, I chalk a lot of “reformulations” up to simple batch inconsistencies. Some houses are definitely better than others in this regard, but it’s basically impossible for 2 batches of ANYTHING to be 100% identical. Even, say, coke. Buy 2 cans of coke from different batches, they don’t taste the same. They’re similar enough that they’re both coke, but some batches are sweeter, some are more watery, etc. Add in the fact that fragrances are often produced in multiple different facilities, it’s not hard to see why 2 bottles of the same fragrance could smell different.

I’d also say that in my experience, with a few notable exceptions (looking at you, Creed), most “reformulated” fragrances tend to be close enough that I don’t really give a shit. 5-10% difference in smell or performance? Don’t care.

Here’s the thing, though, and I don’t mean to call you out, specifically, but there seems to be this attitude from some people in the fragrance community that some people are suckers and are being ripped off.

Well, we’re all being ripped off. Perfume is a luxury item. It’s produced for pennies on the dollar. Even if you’re buying those cheap Arab roll-ones that cost like 10 bucks, you’re still paying probably 1000% markup at least. This is why this mentality is so silly to me. Quality is subjective. Something might be worth very little to one person and a lot to another. I really wish this silly attitude would go away. No one is impressed by the fact that you don’t buy expensive things.

Well right. Obviously you are paying for a certain level of exclusivity at a certain point but even in this frame of reference there is a point you just get absolutely ripped off. Creed is there but the price is not my concern, it's the fact that they can't into quality control in the slightest, and a bunch of other factors.

Listen - I have no problem spending 400 on something I like. GIT and Original Vetiver are great. But we can still hold each other to not poison the industry any more than it already is.

Well, that’s true. I don’t own Aventus, personally, I do have PVI, because it’s just as good, if not better IMO. I’m just saying, being smug about frugality is nonsensical and obnoxious.

Well on the flip side, some people that get fanatical (afaik no-one here) about brands like Roja can make the opposite true. Even if those brands use top tier ingredients like special breeds of flower, they will be limited to the amount they can use. Legally these days you'd only be permitted to use a few drops at most depending on concentration. In the long run you could literally buy "the most expensive ingredients" at a fair amount and blend them together if you wanted, although obviously you need to know how to balance it all out but still, for 10K or less you could do that and have a good decade or two's worth, and since its non-commercial you could use what you like.

Let's talk about this perfume for a minute. I received my bottle in the mail on Monday and gave a 3ml vial to my perfume thot coworker on Tuesday. She wore it today, claiming 3 sprays from the travel atomizer, and she was noticeable from literally 100 feet-plus. Our workplace is a three story tall, 750k square foot warehouse, and she actually works in the department next to mine, but I could easily smell her over my own Bleu de Chanel EdP all day even after refresh sprays. Two other female coworkers stopped her and then hunted me down to get the name. Not bad for $42 / 75ml on Notino (tester).

There's discussion on Fragrantica that later batches are weaker, but I can vouch that the testers currently being sold for cheap on Notino are absolutely nuclear. If a chocolate bonbon rose oud fragrance with unreal potency seems like your kind of thing, I would jump on this one before it's gone. A bottle should last you for many winters.

It cannot be overwhelming, suffocating or too heavy.
At the same time shit like Aqua di Gio gives me a headache, so I'm definitively not looking for those overly used sweet scents that smells like a citrus air fresheners for cars and/or crappers.

Still looking for something fresh, but lasting a bit longer than 5 minutes. Could start with maritime scents and go into Fahrenheit's cucumber type of freshness with some nice light herbal aromas.

Lately I checked a few: Aqua di Gio (gave me a headache), Chanel Homme Sport (too sweet), and Dior Sauvage (just disgusting) were all a big no, while I quite liked the new Dior Homme Sport.
