I got pic related for my graduation. A used Rolex in good condition is probably around the same price range but way nicer than any TAG in my opinion. But that is a remake of an iconic watch and probably one of the best watches in TAG's mostly shit catalog, so if you're set on it I can't blame you too much.

I’ve owned multiple Alphas, they are okayish as long as you refrain from changing the time often. The crown screws and time changing mechanism are very bad.

Change the time once and wear it every day to prevent it from running down. If you have to update the time every week it will break sooner than later.

Those two agre both great and very versatile, i like the Rolex better but as said the Tudor fills a similar niche for half the price... its ETA still, but Top and Tudor modified, so pretty neat.

You should pick the Rolex over the Omega 11 times out of 10. The Aqua Terra is pretty nice but it just does not hold up next to a Rolex. The OP comes in various sizes and that photo you posted is definitely not to scale, have you tried them on to see which one you like?

The coaxial, has the independent moving hour hand, better timekeeping when left with lower power reserve, more magnetic resistance (Rolex Milgauss level) and lower service cost if you send both to the manufacturer (the Rilex you could service it "anywhere" and save more).

Rolex movements don't really have any tricks, just very high quality. They do a very good implementation of a normal lever escapement with a free sprung balance and full balance bridge, it's as sturdy and reliable as you can make a mechanical watch. Omega manages to make very magnetic resistant movements which is neat, but their coaxial escapements are a solution looking for a problem. The way they've implemented it seems more like a unique selling point for advertising than an actual practical improvement.

But honestly just look at them in person side by side and pick the one you like better which is what I suggested in the first place. The Omega to me just does not look and feel as perfectly refined and finished. If that's not what it feels like to him and if he likes the details and stuff that make it more visually interesting than the Rolex which is more plain then he can pick the Omega, I don't give a shit.

The 904L steel is no way "better" than the 316L everyone else is using. Slightly softer, so probably helps achieving the better finishing looks of the Rolex but also makes it a bit more probe to scratchs and marks. Nothing to take too much into account really.

Also 904L has more nickel, a concern for people with skin conditions or alergies may be (dunno for sure).

904L is not harder, and hence its easier to polish and work with. Its advantage its only a bit more corrosion resistance (which is already excelent in 316L). Rolex started using it back in the day for seadwellers i think because of that, after issues with 316L corrosion under exceptional conditions. Later switched all the range to 904 for who knows what (marketing, escale production advantage, polishability?).

Regarding the nickel, yes, probably is low enough in both (higher in 904), thats why i didnt say it could be an issue for sure.

Very very similar steels anyway. And the 904 use for every Rolex is just that; marketing or that its easier to work with only one kind of steell for them, or that they find it easier to finish.
