Yes, but I think the experience of the senses is pretty priceless

Don’t make any rash impactful decisions.

When you're feeling out of sorts it’s tempting to make big decisions (maybe you’re going to quit something, join something, or maybe you are "never doing something again").

Remember that when you're experiencing a social/over-stimulation hangover that you are in a temporary state and that your body and mind are trying to cope with what you've done to them. You are not in a fit state to make any big reactionary decisions. Just leave it until tomorrow.

That's an Eau de Parfum, friendo. And there are many EdT concentration scents that will last for a full 12 hours. Just ask us for long lasting fragrances and stop making concentration part of the discussion, because things don't work exactly as you seem to think.

Reliably long lasting EdT:
24 Gold Oud
Bvlgari Aqua Amara
Guerlain Vetiver
L'Eau Majeure d'Issey
Molecule 01/04
Encre Noire / Sport
Bleu de Chanel
Sauvage

There are too many high performance EdP to list, but basically any Mancera / Montale / Bond No. 9 / Creed will offer performance at least on par with AdG Profumo (which again, is not a pure parfum or extrait concentration).

I have only just, JUST found out about Amouge's attars. I've known and smelt the normal perfume range (which Christopher Chong is in charge of, the attars being a separate department, interestingly) and my favourite from there is Gold Woman, followed by Jubilation XXV.

And then reading about Luca Turin's and Kafka's review on Amouge Homage makes my clench my fists in envy. I want to own it. I want to have that bottle in my safe, locked away for propriety.

But it's far too rich for my blood. Maybe I'll gift it to myself when I graduate or on a massive occasion... by which time it'll have gone from the face of the earth, and quadrupled in price.

Every time I go into a store to inquire about a scent, if the sales rep is a girl, she’ll always ask if I’ve tried Sauvage and how it’s her favorite. I agree. Fragrantica's articles (sometimes badly disguised ads) on certain scents are basically no substance once you take away general descriptions of the notes and the maker/history etc etc. It's kinda sad considering some of them are apparently educated people, they may be passionate but in a few cases it looks like churning reports out more than anything. It's just there's nothing enticing about unsubstantial information and descriptions that are almost word for word from the brand's website, nothing to make you actually want to check the fragrance out. Apart from knowing if a vague category might be to your taste.

Finally got these and I regret everything.

I mean I don't know what I was expecting bootlegs to smell like but FUCK it makes me sick. Both have these notes that remind me of bathroom cleaner. GIT clone is the worst offender. It's just soap in a bottle.

The thing about the sauvage clone though is that it almost can pass as the real thing. The peppery notes are there and overpower everything. But honestly its like what sauvage would smell like if it was ACTUALLY axe body spray. Longevity on both is alright I guess. But I was so sick that I had to scrub it all off.

So this guy >>13040167 was correctly referring to ambroxan, but Fragrantica
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Creed/Aventus-9828.html
lists an ambergris note because the site groups both of these substances in the "ambergris" scent, and to follow his advice I should search for "ambergris" in Fragrantica, knowing that most likely perfumers are using ambrox to imitate ambergris. Right?

I couldn't give you any advice there: I agree the fragrantica perfume by note list isn't very helpful so I've never used it.

For a great ambergris frag, try Ambra Aurea. It's the most realistic to ambergris you're going to find outside of Arabic attars.

There's a whole excellent list by kafka again if you're looking for amber fragrances instead; some of my favourites are:
Amber Sultan
Amber Absolute
O Hira
Ambre Loup

If I misunderstood you and you were looking for ambroxan fragrances, I couldn't help you. I personally try to stay clear of that aroma molecule as much as I can. FYI Sauvage is the reference fragrance for ambroxan overload.

So what is the role of a designer (in case they're still alive) when it comes to creating fragrances?

Like what does actually Tom Ford do? He can design clothes, but does he actually know shit about perfumes? Does every single perfume have to be approved by him or something? Does he direct anything and tell his team what to do or? I'm genuinely curious.

>> No.13041869

>>13041796
He doesn't really do shit. Most perfume brands aren't independent. In this case, Tom Ford's beauty line (make-up and fragrances) is licensed to Estee Lauder.

Hedi Slimane used to design packaging and give briefs to perfumers when he was head designer for Dior Homme. So in that sense, it was a joint operation between Hedi Slimane and the perfumer.

The designers for brands don't do a lot, but there are exceptions.

I don't wear Aventus in the summer and usually only when the weather is cooler. GIT is very complex. It's amazing as a day scent and for work, but I usually don't wear it at night. GIT can be worn in all weather, but I don't like wearing it int he winter as much as other seasons. MI is great for warmer weather but the longevity and projection sucks. If I were you I'd invest in vintages- vintage Mitsouko, Shalimar, VDN, Amouage Homage and Tribute etc. But my priorities are different.

In any case I don't agree with spending that much on a Tom Ford frag. I like them but they're far too expensive for what they're worth. Get a Serge bell jar, or a MDCI/Profumum Roma.

/frag/ won't know very much about female-only houses like that, but a quick search draws comparisons to Lancôme La Vie Est Belle so I imagine that it's a super sweet tonka-vanilla-fruit bomb in today's popular style. It's honestly hard to screw up that genre, so you probably chose well assuming you like this kind of scent. I'd say sample whatever sounds nice to you. In the past there have been reforms, like I remember they made one of the female ones more gourmand when before it was aldehydic. If you end up getting a full bottle of anything and the sticker on the bottom says something like "Manufactured by ROJA DOVE LIMITED", then it's a recent bottle. I don't know if its late 2016 or mid 2017 onwards that this happened. But the caps now have the signature instead of Roja Parfums as well, idk if its just a design change or its a sign of a buyout. It's all cloak and dagger and not discussed much, personally I think people would like to believe nothing bad has happened since they will be paying quite a bit of money. I got the one bottle I have about late 2014 and it doesn't even have the black batch code on the bottom or anything, got it from the boutique in this department store in London so its legit.
