Well, that wasn't the only reason I quit, but it was definitely a big part. I like smelling good and being attractive and it would crush me a little bit inside every time someone would be like "oh how long have you smoked?" or something without me smoking in front of them because they could smell it on me. I went to college at a medical school so a lot of the student body was super health conscious and uppity about shit like that. Eventually it got on my nerves enough to quit for good.

The other reasons I quit were, like you, for the myriad of negative health problems you face when you've been smoking often for a decent amount of time. After about 5 years of a half pack a day, or more when out with people, I couldn't walk up a couple flights of stairs without losing my breath. Not to mention the yellowing of teeth, the fucking with your gums, and all the other negative effects. It's just gross, bottom line. Looking back on it I can't believe I did it for so long despite the negative consequences, but you put up with a lot of shit when you're an addict.

Drugs are noble and edifying when used for aesthetic experiences and not degenerate mundane consumption. A trait of the consummate (/fa/) man is knowing his limit and optimal time-enjoyment ratio for using drugs.
