The only thing that happens is you may get stopped by a bored Barney Fife cop and have to show your residence card, or if you are visitor your passport (always carry it). Normally they just check it and let you go. Last time it happened to me, I made the mistake of saying "yes somewhat" when they asked if I could speak Japanese. It made them actually ask me questions and shit so it took more time and I almost missed my train. The first time it happened to me I actually didn't know any Japanese and was spilling my spaghetti and it was too awkward so they let me go immediately.

They're lucky I was a resident who speaks some Japanese and gets what is going on. I imagine they've stopped some vacationers who speak no Japanese and gotten immediate panic and shit, understandably.

The things you're seeing in colour that are faded now were done like 20 or 30 years ago, sometimes longer. Now obviously there no way to tell what stuff being done now will actually look like, but technology marches ever onward. Inks, machines, techniques, needles, they've all improved. Eventually it'll be full. The back looked odd until it was done. Who's out there planning a full body anyway? You know how difficult that would be? You'd have to know what style, artist and content you liked from the very beginning and it would have to remain consistent for a number of years or longer depending on funds and time.
In my opinion the first three tattoos on a person are just learning, then after that you could think about what you're putting on every inch of your body.

Lets take the back as an example since it was all by the same artist. If it were all one solid piece from the beginning, it would have taken multiple sessions, but that would have been it. As it is it was made up over three to four years with virtually no overarching plan. That's the nature of making a sleeve etc in a style you like.

That's because Irezumi isn't a fucking Japanese word 入れ墨 or 入墨 are the original AND most common way to denote Irezumi. Both originally Chinese. There are different characters to denote the traditional use, but they are not the original and were adapted. Much like how they adapted the word "tattoo" to mean "tattoo". Any ink inserted into the skin is Irezumi, unless donated by 刺青 which is the traditional JAPANESE way to denote traditional methods.

I have my appointment for February first to start my equation piece on my leg. I'm going to get thigh piece filled with different equations, Newton's third law, the first law of thermodynamics etc. Then on my right thigh I'm getting a pagan religious piece.
