OV is a very fresh interpretation with added ginger and citrus. It has grown on me over time.

Top 5:
Route du Vétiver (full disclosure: I have only tried the 100ml vintage in the red bottle - smoky, intense, or vetiver lovers only)
Guerlain Vetiver (same but with ribbed bottle - straddles green and smoky deftly, tobacco is very prominent with this batch)
Sycomore - slightly smoky, comforting and smooth as butter
Encre Noire Sport - retains all the rooty, earthy goodness of the original and makes it infinitely more wearable with a ray of citrus sunshine
Vetiver Ambrato - High class af and a touch of sweetness. Not powdery enough to bug me.

Back with a quick update, a few hours in. I'm sorry to say it but this rabbit hole is worth it. The reviews already out speak more precisely than I could. They are delicious, not gourmand delicious, but after inhaling deeply for a few seconds you kinda get this trail entering your sinuses and it almost has a mouthfeel to it, hard to explain but for me that's a good sign of a damn fine scent. For a moment it feels like it could just take over.

Come join me down the rabbit hole.

Also will come back after wearing both for a few days, compare it to iris and Violet in other scents I have, so far the difference in depth and nuances are almost staggering.

how long can i reasonably expect a bottle of perfume to last? does it age?

>> No.12972417

>>12972170
It really depends. Anywhere from 8-12 sprays per ml is a good rule of thumb. Personally I never have needed to spray more than 5 for one wearing, and that's really on the high end. So just kinda do that math.

That being said if you have a rotation of frags then it'll last you a good long time. I bought 70 ml of d&g pour homme probably 3-4 years ago and wore it on warmer days in rotation with burberry Brit summer and I still have a fair amount.

Some people claim perfume gets stronger as the alcohol evaporates and thus it ages, but on the flip side it can grow stale. Generally though you won't notice any aging if kept in a cool dry place.

On the christmas list, I really like it too. I have been just sniffing my empty sample bottle for a week now. Its actually been making me second guess it, but its because im only getting the top notes. the peppery heart and clean dry down are my favorite parts. Probably going to be my first signature scent.
I also have discovered smelling both my empty tam dao and empty wonderwood sample at the same time produced an amazing scent, I really want to layer them on my skin. Really smooths out and warms up wonderwood to have that sandlewood in there.

A powerful winter scent. Starts off with a strong herbal quality (tar, mint, and patchouli) with background sweetness that settles down after about 2 hours, after which the sweetness is much more prominent and it becomes very chocolatey. Running out of my Aventus, was thinking about Mancera Cedrat Boise, is it really similar to Aventus as people say or not? Haven't had a chance to smell it yet.

>> No.12976932

>>12976836
Don't approach Cedrat Boise expecting an Aventus clone. If that's what you want, go directly to Pineapple Vintage Intense. The Mancera is sort of like the sweeter half of Aventus, focused more on vanilla and blackcurrant without any of the pineapple or birch. In place of the birch you get a suede, and a lemony citrus sits on top. CB is reminiscent of very specific moments in late stages of Aventus' development only.

I enjoy CB and wear it year round, but if you have other fresh summer scents to wear then it's probably best enjoyed in fall and winter, and for evenings. Like almost all Mancera / Montale perfumes, it lasts forever and gets noticed.

Fragrancenet and Notino
I guess this is a good time to drop some advice for getting the best deals from these sites.

I've said this before, but to be sure you're getting the best price on fragnet, don't visit them directly. Instead search for a common scent on Google then click through. You should get a 35 or 37 percent discount instead of 25 or 30.

This Notino tip is a secret that I've kept for about two years now - if you see a good price on a perfume but aren't sure whether it might drop further (or can't afford the purchase right away), add it to your cart anyway. Notino shopping carts seem to be based on cookies, and are persistent for months at a time. If you have multiple computers or devices, you can lock in deep discounts months before actually paying for them. Essentially, if you add a sale priced item to your cart, you lock in the right to buy it at that price forever. I hope this helps you anons and that notino don't get hip to it. A fix would be pretty simple for them to roll out.

Additional thoughts on my experiences with fragnet / notino:

The best place to find deals on fragrancenet is under the "New Arrivals" section (under "Shop") or to sort all items by newest arrival. They receive surprisingly high quality and / or recent perfumes for a clearinghouse, and I discover a lot of scents that I've missed by browsing.

Always check fragrancenet's gift set prices, especially in the New Arrivals section. They are often priced very low compared to the equivalent sized EdP / EdT, I believe by mistake. Case in point - last month, Fragnet had a YSL Mon Paris EdP gift set with 100 ml perfume and 200 ml body lotion priced at $50, while the 100 ml EdP by itself was $75. I copped one gift set and thought a day later to order a few more as gifts, but they had brought the price in line with the perfume. Same situation again recently with D&G Light Blue Eau Intense - some anon mentioned it here last week, I impulse bought a gift set for $45, then they raised it to $75 a day later. I regret not buying their full stock on both occasions.

With Notino, things get interesting when you manage to save a really good price as detailed in >>12980208 and then stack it with an additional 10-20% discount code from a later sale. Example: Notino offered 25% off certain brands on Black Friday. When you stack that discount with sale items saved in your cart from recent months, you could have picked up a 4 oz Mancera for $60 or a 3 oz Tom Ford Patchouli Absolu for $155.

So far I've been wearing mostly mainstream fruity and floral scents that every fucking girl wears.

At the moment I'm switching between Diors absolutely blooming, ck one and jimmy choo blossom; depending on my fit.

I still want something floral, but with warmer notes maybe. Still feminine but leaning more towards a unisex scent.

I do 2-5 sprays generally, depending on frag, atomizer, occasion, etc. Most frags 3-4 sprays. 1-2 on chest for nice wafts from under collar all day, 1 on back of neck, 1-2 on forearm(s). Avoid proximity to nose, i.e. face/front of neck, to prevent olfactory fatigue. Avoid wrists as they get lots of rubbing contact with pockets/desks. Under clothing mutes projection. On hair/clothing holds on to top notes longer, but just a dusting as some frags stain some fabrics.

Best to test application in more casual situations and best to ask others about projection, rather than rely on your own nose. And always err on the side of caution if unsure in more important occasions.

Serious question: what's the projection of cocoa butter (specifically Palmer's)

I've been using it as a facial moisturizer after my evening shower (I use an odor-free SPF 30 moisturizer during the day which is when I typically wear frags, as that's when 95% of my social interaction takes place).

It's been working fantastically, even better than my regular stuff, but the smell is extremely heavy and cloying and seems to last fucking forever. It smells like chocolate which I am not a fan of at all.

My question is, if I do end up going out after applying it, am I safe wearing a non-complimentary fragrance? To me, it seems like its sillage and projection is enormous, but that's because I'm rubbing the shit all over my face. Assuming I've given it an hour or so to absorb into my skin, would somebody be able to smell it on me from 2-5 feet away, or if they go in for a hug?

Could also be that Marshalls bought a stock of what they thought were extremely cheap Creeds from an unscrupulous seller thinking they were getting a deal, and the buyer just doesn’t know shit about fragrances.

My sister was a buyer for Sears a few years back (got out in time, luckily), and she’d have to buy fragrances sometimes, and she knows nothing at all about them. She’d actually call me sometimes to ask if she was getting a good deal or not (though of course, I couldn’t see the product, so I didn’t know if they were authentic). It’s not at all unheard of for big retailers to get scammed like that.
