Love the Max Bills. Main reason I got the Form A was because of the sapphire glass, couldn't justify the price tag of the Max Bill when I would 100% scratch it up within the first couple days, especially with dat dome. Hopefully they can make a sapphire max bill one day because the faces on them are def a little more beautiful imo

Look for Raketa Copernic/Kopernik/Copernicus in eBay or Etsy. You can get one for fairly cheap, 40€. Just make sure it uses the original and superior HP movement and not the HA, which doesn’t belong to this específico model but many franken watchmakers assembly then with HA’s because they are more common. Also the Soviet made ones before 1992 are more collectible, but if you don’t care about that bullshit it’s ok.

I know this is a l8 response and you probably won't see this, but I'm going to explain MVMT is awful, because a lot of people here say it is but don't say why. The watch is literally not worth anywhere close to what you paid for it. The movement is a $4 quartz miyota 2035 (that's eBay re-seller price as well, imagine how cheap it is when a company buys in bulk), and the case costs chump change to make as well. You literally could have gotten something on the same level from aliexpress for $5-10. You fell for a meme, but don't worry about it to much because it's a popular meme so you can flip it to a normalfag if you realize you like wearing watches and want to upgrade to something decent. There's a lot of companies pulling the "AFFORDABLE LUXURY" scam these days, so make sure to brush up on watches, do some research and learn about movement types and how much other watches with the same movement cost, and avoid any microbrand that uses the term "AFFORDABLE LUXURY" to describe their products. Also go smaller for a watch, 45mm is gonna look stupid on you unless your wrists are the size of an average person's neck, 40-42mm is the max that you should go.

Very solidly built. Has some nice heft to it, but it never feels heavy. The finish is great, very elegant and even on close inspection I have no complaints about the finer details in its build quality. There are some nice choices when it comes to face colour, so you can pick what you like, but in a formal setting I'd stick with white / eggshell. I went with the brown/white combination myself as my daily wear at medschool is kind of preppy and the brown goes with everything I wear. Black is a little more sombre and the navy face is slightly more informal than I'd like. I'd say it's worth every penny, and it's not very expensive. Timex are a very good "budget" brand along with Seiko so what you get will be very nicely built, even at low prices.

The ticking complaints are overblown, I never hear it unless I bring it up to my ear and try really hard to listen in an almost silent environment. At the library where it's almost pin-drop I can never hear it. I sleep with it on and I've never heard it unless, again, I really try to. It's certainly slightly louder than other wristwatches but it's still never, ever been an issue.

Pic related is mine. As a non white non racist, it's pretty nice (srs). But if you can shell out the extra, try getting the Orient. As a racist, you'd know Hitler gave honourary Aryanism to the Nips so don't let that stop you getting it. It's a fantastic watch. Personally though if I was saving up the £140 or so that it costs, I'd just save up a few extra 100s and go for an entry level mechanical. But between these two, costs aside? Orient.

Think its worth about 400-750 once restored. But then I can give it to my own kid in about 20 years after Christopher Walken hides it in his ass for a bit.

Another opinion - don't send a vintage watch to Omega for service. They are notorious for "restoring" the dial, case, etc. If you care about the original pieces of the watch staying original (by which I mostly mean dial, hands, case, crown, not mainspring, obviously), take it to an independent watchmaker. It will be cheaper, faster, and assuming you've picked a competent watchmaker, safer.

Hey I have one of those too. I wouldn't send it to Omega personally, that's way too expensive. I guess it depends whether you would rather have it original or have it refinished to look new. Refinishing will ruin all resale/collector value but I know you're not planning on selling anyway and the watch isn't worth much to begin with.

In.your case id find a local professional and do just the minimum for the watch to work properly. Also change the strap but keep the original stored.

Dont refinish the watch, only clean it, let the scratches and dial stains be.

>> No.12958470

>>12958049
Omega just does its job, hands are meant to be replaced specially if they have luminova or tritium (older watches). That doesnt sunstract from the value of the watch.

But i wouldnt send that particular watch to Omega either.

>> No.12958555

>>12958470
It absolutely subtracts from the value of the watch. Originality is worth way more than anything else. Omega will replace parts with whatever closest match they have available, it won't come back exactly the same because it's just not possible to expect them to have every identical part in stock. Dial repainting is also extremely difficult and can be easily spotted 99% of the time. The only way replacing and refinishing parts will increase the value of a vintage watch is if the watch was already trashed and not worth anything to begin with.

But again, this isn't a rare or valuable watch or anything like that. He's not doing it to turn a profit, so it's basically just a choice between whether you want to keep it closer to its original state or whether you want it fixed up so it looks brand new again.

Do the full service _except_ new dial or hands and tell them to keep the case re-finishing at minimum. This way the watch shows its age, and all the history that comes with it. If they refuse, find some other (authorized omega watchmaker) that does it. If you send it to omega, they basically just make you a new watch, and that is a huge no-no on a vintage piece with sentimental value.
