The only thing that's really set in stone is that you take a futurist/sci-fi approach to your outfits. Draw your inspo from your favorite sci-fi media and real world space/flight gear and figure out how to make it work.

Keeping things utilitarian and military-inspired definitely helps. I'll go ahead and say interesting cargos and some light colored boots are must haves. Also already having a flight suit is awesome.

i think going monotone on the pants/shoes could look pretty interesting, if you're going with that tapering at the hem. it would kind of look like one continuous appendage. hard to pull off with runners though, since they dont have the elongated profile a boot gives with the elevated heel

generally, do you try to look symmetrical with the other leg matching in narrowness or do you exaggerate the contrast?

I generally try to be symmetrical up until the ankle/calf region. Everything above that kinda looks like a weird lumpy mess that I'm not really happy with. One thigh is way smaller than the other, and the knee is very strangely shaped since it's not a stump but rather my foot on backwards acting as a knee. I don't really fill out pants. It sucks, and kind of eats at my confidence if I'm honest.

imo, palladiums (which can be frequently copped on sale) are sort of disposable, like chucks or vans. i have one of their more expensive models, msrp like +$150 and i would never pay that much for it...i think i got it for like $60. pretty happy with it at that price point.

the cheaper models, like the pampa hi, are durable enough for the price i usually get them at <$40. i rotate among like 3 pairs of those for 2+ years now, although im not kicking hydralisks or anything in them. honestly i think rotating shoes preserves them a long time, and not just in terms of how many days they last...it's more about letting the shoe dry out so the moisture doesnt accelerate wear

not op but desert boots are basic and played out. they're also painfully boring

but more importantly they dont fit with lunarcore. desert boots are a bit of a misnomer - they aren't designed for a desert or harsh environment, so don't get the impression that they have a historical or aesthetic connection to moon boots.

their shape as an ankle boot is awkward, since most space boots tend to completely extend above the ankle. conceptually, i guess that has a functional reason but im not an astronaut or a martian so thats just my take on it

materials wise, the crepe sole was popular with them because it was cheap and comfortable. but it's not durable and it's not protective, which are design considerations common to many lunarcore boots. leather is okay...just a bit too plain. the closure system is simple and lacks buckles and zippers and all that

but yeah desert boots are for uninspired planetary beatniks and buzzfeed fashion readers

god why am i writing an essay about desert boots lul

I've never seen a fit with a pair of desert boots and thought "Damn, those desert boots really brought the whole thing together." They're an awkward, boring design and crepe soles look lame and flimsy to me. There are just so many better boots out there. Also it might also be the fact half the dudes in my office wear them and they're all cookie cutter GQ style 101 guys, so I almost immediately associate desert boots with gingham shirts, cuffed jeans/chinos, and the 'ol undercut + full beard combo.

Before I start some shit - that whole look is totally fine. It's just boring to me.

i feel like this is something you wear that you have to commit to. like go balls to the wall. not sure how to do that without it looking costumey. definitely agree with the adding contrasty accents, patches, black or white taped seams, zipper pulls. adding things to the pockets to make them bulge out will help give it structure because it's hard to picture it from a flat image.

wear it with a contrasty vest, and/or belt (like a white one, that is bulky)

also make sure the jumpsuit is tapered/elasticated/slimmed or else it looks sloppy and not effay

there's a historical element to lunarcore, as well as a fictional tradition. i suppose ninja might have some fictional inspiration but it isn't as grounded, ironically, as lunarcore. some people (myself included), enjoy the speculative parts of lunarcore. seems a lot more relevant in this era than ninja style.

and lunarcore imo is a lot more diverse. you have multiple sci fi visions that diverge from historical realism of the apollo/gemini/cosmonaut era. there's the grungy postapocalyptic look, the more sterile and sharply tailored/streamlined look, the milsurp look

i think there's more room to play with lunarcore, or at least that's why i find it more interesting. and this is coming from a brief dalliance with techwear, albeit not full on tech ninja

techwear and streetninja are two different cores

techwear has an emphasis on fabrics and articulation. nylon, synthetic fabrics, gussets, ease of movement. and some straps. there's fundamentally a focus on construction and movement, which isn't so much a focus with lunarcore - astronauts dont need to bboy with hugh errolson

idk exactly what streetninja is but there's an abundance of black and drapey silhouettes, but there's a lot of cotton and linens and nonsynthetics that make up streetninja. oh and dick oven boots because goofninjas dont get that rick designs for himself, not for some larger fascination with ninjas.

i see how there are parallels between lunarcore and techwear, and lunarcore and streetninja, but they're as related as trad and mod, or yohji and workwear. which is to say, they speak common languages but with very different purposes

see the attached pictures...i dont think these fit into either ninja or techwear. the structuring is distinctly futuristic, the nod to the bomber is a milsurp inspiration that is also not found in tech/ninja

I havent put them through a torture test, but they are intended for hot weather wear, so they're designed to be light and breathable. Probably not the most sturdy fabric, unfortunately, mostly due to its thinness. It is a very comfortable stretchy cotton/tencel/polyester blend, however.

The styling on these kind of suck and their fit is pretty bad, but the prana zion stretch cargos are excellent for durability. If I knew how to sew, I'd so some surgery to the legs but that materials and construction are top notch otherwise

There's going to be some overlap because both aesthetics have utilitarian and military-inspired aspects to it, but like that other anon said they have two very different approaches.

Lunar is about putting together fits that get sci-fi/futurist ideas across. Techwear is about the materials, solid construction, getting your friend to take pics of you in the rain, digging your chin into your neck really hard so your collar covers half your face, posting a lot of hentai and oni faces on your tumblr, bumping your old gyakusou for the 18th time on grailed, and trying to nonchalantly draw attention to your gravity pocket in hopes of impressing a barista. I think this fit needs more going on at knee height.

A baggy, military look up top does not go well with the very contemporary cut of the pants.

Best would be higher boots and baggier pants, gathered just below the knee. Cargo pants with low, baggy pockets would do in a pinch.

You know why all those pants are baggy? All those fuckin old ass manlets are fat as hell, look at old photos of in shape soldiers from WW1 everything was fitted nicely and didn't look like they were wearing OD Jincos

This isn't a milspo thread so there shouldn't be too much of a milspo theme going on with any one fit, lest it turn into some sort of pure milspo or some stolen valor shit, or milarp

I can't imagine wearing this stuff where I live. Seasons here differ mainly with the amount and consistency of dirt, snow and rain, so wearing white is out of the question. That, and society is a bit too conservative, so this kind of fashion looks like cosplay to most people.

I do enjoy looking at pictures in this thread though, they make nice references for work. So thanks for that, please carry on.

>> No.12964911

>>12964723
at first i felt a little weird but i actually got really good responses from people. i think you just have to own it. most people dress up in costume daily...few truly find business casual or button downs and selvedge jeans as something they're passionate about. they just wear it because it's safe and generally looks "good" - but it's just GQ cosplay instead of scifi-inspired cosplay. or there's lumberjack cosplay, or patagonia outdoorsy cosplay. i guess my point is that just because this style references some more exotic fiction or history shouldn't deter you from dressing in something that's personally meaningful and stylistically authentic to yourself and your interests. clothing is a great way to communicate, why waste it dressing to appeal to the largest number of people possible? it's the difference between a good, unobjectionalbe 3 star average movie from a more controversial but ultimately more memorable 4 star movie that might rub some critics wrong but are a home run with others. anyway my point is that people crave authenticity, and they'll enjoy it vicariously through your own personal style, even if it's not their cup of tea. because at the end of the day, i can enjoy fashion across multiple styles including those that don't resonate with me personally, because it's not about a particular aesthetic - it's about recognizing the passion that motivates a person to indulge in whatever style speaks to them. you might be surprised at the response you'll get, i had similar hesitation to you but now i'm too old to care (in my 30's). and looking back, i kind of bemoan those years in my 20's spent dressing up according to someone else's style.

the dirt, snow, and rain are actually pretty integral to my interpretation of this style. i like the grittier look, so all the white is a canvas for the environment to abuse. the moon is a harsh mistress and all. the universe averages out to a light beige gray anyway, i think gray hides dinginess better, too

If you bitch enough you could most likely get them to refund yoir money and let you keep the pants and MAYBE even send you out another pair in the right size

You just have to complain about the wrong size shitty service and that they should refund your money and send out your right size, and say you won't leave a negative comment on the store you bought from

(Usually it's just cheaper for them in the long run to just do this for you, lest losing out on future business from other customers that took your negative advice)

Yeah, that affectation, "artisanal manhood", is a problem with Western society as a whole and it's not doing anyone any favours, our lack of authenticity and the constant message from certain people that "whites have no culture" is really fucking with us

If you can't be authentic to your people and your brothers you might as well be authentic to yourself

A lot of kids in my area tend to have the "my dad will sue your dad" look, so I usually stick out like a sore thumb. I've never received any sort of negative attention because of my outfits, though. Most people tend to not care. If they do have something to say, they're either curious or they're interested in fashion and want to offer a compliment. I think as long as you carry yourself well and don't wear anything that is overtly gaudy, then you're golden.

Also people should just welcome all the elements for their lunar fits. Some wear and tear just adds to the look imo.

I bought it from this store in real life, but they stock allot more in-store then they do online so I'm not sure if this is the same shirt but it looks kind of similar. My shirt doesn't actually have any marking or labels in it so I can't tell you exactly what it is. Hope this is some use to you.

Have you ever thought about practicing welding and metalwork so you can customize your prosthetic? :) You could maybe weld a metal guard higher up the shin or something. Add some blue tubes, bulk it out maybe. Could be fun?

I mentioned it before, but technically every piece of the prosthetic is pretty expensive and custom fitted to me and the specialists that built it were pretty stern about not fucking with it too much when I was younger. I still try to keep it "stock" and well maintained. Tigging bits of metal onto it poorly would probably wouldn't go well with them. All this stuff is provided by Canada's "free" health care and the waramps so I try to respect it.
