I've always wanted to check out older sci-fi movies like this but I don't even know where to start.

Keeping things utilitarian and military-inspired definitely helps. I'll go ahead and say interesting cargos and some light colored boots are must haves. Also already having a flight suit is awesome.

i think going monotone on the pants/shoes could look pretty interesting, if you're going with that tapering at the hem. it would kind of look like one continuous appendage. hard to pull off with runners though, since they dont have the elongated profile a boot gives with the elevated heel

I generally try to be symmetrical up until the ankle/calf region. Everything above that kinda looks like a weird lumpy mess that I'm not really happy with. One thigh is way smaller than the other, and the knee is very strangely shaped since it's not a stump but rather my foot on backwards acting as a knee. I don't really fill out pants. It sucks, and kind of eats at my confidence if I'm honest.

I have these in all black. I have many palladium boots in the same size but these are tighter and my toe falls asleep and is always in extreme pain. I thought I just needed to break them in but nothing has helped. I recommend going a size up or just avoiding them tbqh. Unfortunate because they look great and I live in a very rainy city.

Are there any rugged alternatives to the Palladium boots? I've heard that the Palladiums are all show and no go and I'm pretty fucking rough on my shoes.

imo, palladiums (which can be frequently copped on sale) are sort of disposable, like chucks or vans. i have one of their more expensive models, msrp like +$150 and i would never pay that much for it...i think i got it for like $60. pretty happy with it at that price point.

the cheaper models, like the pampa hi, are durable enough for the price i usually get them at <$40. i rotate among like 3 pairs of those for 2+ years now, although im not kicking hydralisks or anything in them. honestly i think rotating shoes preserves them a long time, and not just in terms of how many days they last...it's more about letting the shoe dry out so the moisture doesnt accelerate wear

their shape as an ankle boot is awkward, since most space boots tend to completely extend above the ankle. conceptually, i guess that has a functional reason but im not an astronaut or a martian so thats just my take on it

materials wise, the crepe sole was popular with them because it was cheap and comfortable. but it's not durable and it's not protective, which are design considerations common to many lunarcore boots. leather is okay...just a bit too plain. the closure system is simple and lacks buckles and zippers and all that

but yeah desert boots are for uninspired planetary beatniks and buzzfeed fashion readers

If you want to avoid the convict look paint on some white and black detailing or use iron on transfer. Add as much white+black as possible. For example I would change all the zipper tabs to white that should be easy enough. If you are decent at sewing sew on some black details. there's a historical element to lunarcore, as well as a fictional tradition. i suppose ninja might have some fictional inspiration but it isn't as grounded, ironically, as lunarcore. some people (myself included), enjoy the speculative parts of lunarcore. seems a lot more relevant in this era than ninja style.

and lunarcore imo is a lot more diverse. you have multiple sci fi visions that diverge from historical realism of the apollo/gemini/cosmonaut era. there's the grungy postapocalyptic look, the more sterile and sharply tailored/streamlined look, the milsurp look

techwear has an emphasis on fabrics and articulation. nylon, synthetic fabrics, gussets, ease of movement. and some straps. there's fundamentally a focus on construction and movement, which isn't so much a focus with lunarcore - astronauts dont need to bboy with hugh errolson

idk exactly what streetninja is but there's an abundance of black and drapey silhouettes, but there's a lot of cotton and linens and nonsynthetics that make up streetninja. oh and dick oven boots because goofninjas dont get that rick designs for himself, not for some larger fascination with ninjas.

i see how there are parallels between lunarcore and techwear, and lunarcore and streetninja, but they're as related as trad and mod, or yohji and workwear. which is to say, they speak common languages but with very different purposes

quilting was used for insulating purposes on spacesuits, so that is one distinct space-inspired functional design cue. the vest is fairly common in lunarcore fits but you'll rarely if ever see it in techninja

I havent put them through a torture test, but they are intended for hot weather wear, so they're designed to be light and breathable. Probably not the most sturdy fabric, unfortunately, mostly due to its thinness. It is a very comfortable stretchy cotton/tencel/polyester blend, however.

The styling on these kind of suck and their fit is pretty bad, but the prana zion stretch cargos are excellent for durability. If I knew how to sew, I'd so some surgery to the legs but that materials and construction are top notch otherwise

Lunar is about putting together fits that get sci-fi/futurist ideas across. Techwear is about the materials, solid construction, getting your friend to take pics of you in the rain, digging your chin into your neck really hard so your collar covers half your face, posting a lot of hentai and oni faces on your tumblr, bumping your old gyakusou for the 18th time on grailed, and trying to nonchalantly draw attention to your gravity pocket in hopes of impressing a barista. This pic shows the asos exposed jacket and the chinaman tactical cargos i got. The pants were mislabeled and they are 4 sizes too big and the inseam is way too long for me. So i know they might look kinda weird but they could look a lot worse.

I can't imagine wearing this stuff where I live. Seasons here differ mainly with the amount and consistency of dirt, snow and rain, so wearing white is out of the question. That, and society is a bit too conservative, so this kind of fashion looks like cosplay to most people.

the dirt, snow, and rain are actually pretty integral to my interpretation of this style. i like the grittier look, so all the white is a canvas for the environment to abuse. the moon is a harsh mistress and all. the universe averages out to a light beige gray anyway, i think gray hides dinginess better, too

A lot of kids in my area tend to have the "my dad will sue your dad" look, so I usually stick out like a sore thumb. I've never received any sort of negative attention because of my outfits, though. Most people tend to not care. If they do have something to say, they're either curious or they're interested in fashion and want to offer a compliment. I mentioned it before, but technically every piece of the prosthetic is pretty expensive and custom fitted to me and the specialists that built it were pretty stern about not fucking with it too much when I was younger. I still try to keep it "stock" and well maintained. Tigging bits of metal onto it poorly would probably wouldn't go well with them. All this stuff is provided by Canada's "free" health care and the waramps so I try to respect it.
