I agree. I exclusively get solid-color merino over-the-calf socks by Pantherella. Sierra Trading Post usually has them for the best price, but they restock sold-out colors very slowly. I had to wait like seven months to stock back up on dark greys.

If you've only ever worn cotton socks, merino wool is life-altering levels of comfiness.

What do you mean by 'formal look' and unironically what are those? The sole is really casual.

Personally, I actually like those. I've never before seen an actual comfy or cool looking sneaker/derby hybrid before. I mean, people here will say they're tacky looking and you should either go one way or the other, but in my estimation they do look good. Probably be good for dancing, if you're into that whole mod scene, which certainly seems plausible considering the picture you posted.....

I find important so say here thay the cost of purchase of a given brand can be very different depending on the country you are doing it from etc.

For example the american brands are probably overpriced in Yurop and viceversa. And of course they are brands that are simply hardly available if you want to actually try the shoes before buying.

For example where i live now the only good shoes i can go and try nearby are Lottusse or lesser tier as Pedro del Hierro. I have to wait for work trips to Madrid, Bilbao or London to buy other brands if i want to (almost any brand in any of those cities buy not the full range of each always in stock at Bilbao for example).

Don't do it. I fell for it and bought a pair a couple of years ago. They look way better in photos than in person, I couldn't make them work with any fits. I guess ymmv. Yes. Where I live, I paid €40 more for a pair of Loake boots because I could actually try them on and compare different styles. It would have been an asshole move to just try on and buy online from the UK.

You wear brown oxfords with dark jeans or even tan with lighter jeans. Just get the jeans to fit properly and wear a proper shirt o a plain colour polo. Borguing and rubber soles prefered.

sorry bro, but no. oxfords do not go with jeans. never. and your pic here is not an oxford, it's just a closed lace shoe, with cap toe, oxfords, in the proper sense do not have cap toes. a cap toe immediately makes them not oxfords, a cap toe destroys all formality and morphs it into casual. that's the purpose of a captoe. maybe you can get away with wearing some beat up distressed burgundy oxfords with a cap toe and jeans, but you shouldnt advise people to "wear oxfords" with jeans, that's horrible advice.

and the guy in the pic does look ridiculous anyway, just because he is wearing shades and a beanie, the shoes even with cap toes look ridiculous.

but sure, go ahead and tell all your friends to wear oxfords and a beanie and sunglasses. have fun.

These are my favourite, really comfy after they broke in.

Does anybody else find black brogues tacky? I've never seen any that I liked.

I have shoes from pic related and equivalent tier shoes, but I hesitate to wear it to work because I have only seen C-level executives and senior lawyers wear stuff like it. Can't stand out too much. Sigh.

thats awful advice, tying your shoes too tight in the arch is a recipe for huge orthopedic foot problems, your foot is designed to have freedom of motion through the step, you arch needs to float freely so it can absorb impact and act as a spring mechanism. by tying shoe so tight it stops the arch from springup up and down like this. just because you have a hard sole beneath your foot doesnt mean your foot can just dow hatever it wants up there, your foot needs to act like it wasnt wearing shoes at all. hard soles and overly tight laces create major problems in the way you walk.

Someone recommend me casual boots that I can actually use with a simple fit like jeans/t-shirt.
I was considering doc martens but I saw the 1461 and it kept reminding me of both something my dad would wear and those awkward shoes you buy for homecoming and never wear again

Nah most exotics are fine. Lizard is particularly easy and relatively cheap. My only suggestions would be to avoid styles that are ugly regardless of leather (tassel loafers are reeeally toeing the line, at best), and to avoid loud colors like >>12897355. If you go "full crazy" it'll just be a meme/joke shoe that you have to wear ironically, instead of something you can actually enjoy. Get an unusual color, or an unusual leather, or an unusual style, but not 2 at once. They can basically be worn just like calfskin of the same quality/formality, by which I mean you should wear them with dress trousers, unless you're going for a Beatles or YSL look with black lizard boots, black skinny jeans, etc.

t. wear lizard chelsea boots, lizard gloves, and half alligator dress boots fairly regularly

Oh also just an opinion but croc is ugly as shit, alligator looks ugly on toeboxes, and ostrich only looks good on handbags. I don't think I'd ever want a full pair of gator boots; gator accents are great.

>a cap toe destroys all formality
retard, nobody in this thread is dressing for the fucking theater; black captoes will probably be TOO formal for the fits these guys are going for, and black captoes will be perfectly formal for any normal business attire

recent cop, should work as formal I suppose.

>> No.12906281

captoed oxfords are business shoes. a step up in formality from derby cap toes. however, a plain toe derby is much more elegant than a captoe oxford imo.

cap toe oxfords are NOT more formal than plain toe Oxfords. a captoe also destroys the stretchability of the toe and makes wearing the shoe uncomfortable. unless you have a perfect fit and don't care if the leather never stretches.

I bought these as my first 'proper' pair of quality boots.

Did I do OK? Only worn them once so far, but we're already pretty comfy, how much better will they get? Was expecting them to be uncomfortable at first.
