I was thinking of getting a cheapie to wear to bed and around the house. Was thinking of Hilfiger Loud due to that BBC documentary. Alright Gallagher shills, I'm gonna blind buy a few of dude's bottles. Probably gonna start with That Guy and Amongst Waves.

Where does Gallagher ship from, and would you recommend switching out my picks for any of his others? "Aventus-likes" make up the heart of my rotation, so I'm really interested in TG.

He ships from Texas. Usually I get my order within 5-7 days.

I'd just note, Amongst Waves is very heavy with the melon. If you don't like melon, it may not be for you. It is not subtle. It's also quite sweet.

Bergamust is very nice, it's sort of a musky, smooth citrus aquatic. Very, very pleasant. Really does smell high-quality.

THAT Guy, I haven't tried personally. From what I hear, it's not that much like Aventus, though, just shares some notes.

He always includes some free samples, probably he'll give you Evergreen Dream, since that's his newest and what he gave me last time, and Bergamust, since it's his best seller. If you're interested in THAT Guy, you could email him and ask if he could include a sample of that one. He'll probably accommodate you.

Either way, though, definitely try Bergamust. It's a very underrated frag in my opinion.

I agree with what the other guy said about Amongst Waves. It's absolutely one of my favorites, but it's definitely very melon-ish and very, very strong.

The thing I like about Bergamust is it's citrus, but not lemony, and the performance is way better than any other citrus I've used.

And to be clear about That Guy, it's not an Aventus clone or anything... but if you look for similarities, you'll probably smell them. Definitely in the same vein. I like it a lot.

You really can't go wrong with any of those three imo.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll just buy all three. I've taken bigger perfume risks.

If either of you own Bond no 9 Wall Stret / Creed Millesime Imperiale, how do those two compare to Amongst Waves? I'm not afraid of sweet and fruity (I wear YSL Mon Paris in public) but redundant would be unfortunate.

As for That Guy, I'm not expecting a clone but a genre entry. Something as reminiscent of Aventus as, say, Cedrat Boise or Scent of Peace fH. So long as it's a novel repackaging of familiar notes I should be very happy.

MI is really nothing like Amongst Waves. Amongst Waves is a very strong, sweet honeydew melon with crisp apple, patchouli, and some subtle ginger and vanilla. It's actually a pretty heavy scent, despite being an aquatic.

And yeah, you can't really go wrong with Bergamust. I don't think anyone would dislike it. To me, it's kind of like a cleaner, chilled-out, less obnoxious Sauvage with addition of a nice, smooth bergamot note and a big hit of white musk. Very versatile and very wearable. I'd say it's a pretty safe blind buy.

Why are fragrantica contributers so much nicer than basenotes scum.?

anyhoo

got a bunch of l'artisan parfumeur samples today.

power rankings;
1. dzongkha (really liked this one. a bit odd. smells like a chinese herbal shop with some incence, dirt and vetiver. gonna buy a bottle. i find it comforting)
2. Voleur De Roses (apparently a unisex rose frag that a man can pull off. I like declaration d'un soir and wanted a classier rose frag. rose and patchouli. really liked it.....but it smells too feminine. my mum might like it)
3. Passage d'Enfer (lillies and incense. ilike it but it makes me smell like a homosexual or an old lady. I didn't find the incense very forward)
4. timbuktu (big hype. bit disappointing. there are similarities with dzongkha (vetiver and incense) but there's a note that I really dislike in it. prefer cdg 2 man)
5. fou d' absinthe (begins with some aniseed and cheap "christmas scented" pine car-air-freshner...then dies down to generic aromatic fougere. not as loud as azzaro or rive gauche ph)
6. two for tea (tobacco and black tea. smoky. it might grow on me but just now i find it a bit sweet and cloying)

all 6 were pretty decent.

I just bought pic related plus CH Men Privé and Yves Saint Laurent - La Nuit de L'Homme

I love all three fragrances and rate them absolute A+

Dior Sauvage seems to be the best performer, projects for about 3 hours and lasts on my skin for 24. Great scent, matches heat days better

CH Men Privé - Great fragrance, doesn't project as much as Sauvage, around 2 hours, but has a great unique scent, lasts on my skin for about 12 hours

La Nuit - Great fragrance, different, unique. I absolutely love it, although I think that if oversprayed it can get a little bit cloying. Nevertheless, projects incredibly like Dior Sauvage and also lasts 20+ hours on my skin
I'm thinking about purchasing Jean Paul Gaultier - Ultra Male and Prada L'Homme after I save some money

But I can't reccommend anything like the anon mentioned. I can't stand powdery/aquatic/most designer frags anyway, let alone having it stick to my bed all night.

I think a better idea is either applying some essential oil to yourself or getting one of those room aroma diffusers (like Muji stocks), and putting in your favourite EO.

I mean, this has been discussed in so many of these threads but I exclusively wear frags just for myself. I have a sensitive nose and do very minimal spraying. Or maybe I'm telling someone to smell my wrist because I think they'd be interested.

BtB, Dior Feve Delicieuse simply does better for less money in my opinion. It's not bad, worth a sample, but it's not amazing.

i would like to think i don't have a pleb nose but i smelled feve delivieuse and it was unbearably sweet/cloying. i wanted to like it cause everyone hyped it as the best gourmand ever but it was like someone poured sugary syrup into my nose it was nauseating

>> No.12850503

Well, give BtB a shot, then. It is a bit more subtle, though still reasonably similar. Again, though, it is like double the price. That's really the big thing with By Kilian. If they were in the 120.00-180.00 or so range, they'd probably be worth buying, but even on discount sites, they're like 300.00.

I went to my mall here where they stock niche fragrances just to get disapointed

I smelled the new creed meme, viking. Puting aside the fact that the smell has no corelation to the name, it is the most uninteresting and bland stuff I smelled in a while. LIke holy shit, I looked up the notes beforehand and basically everything smells like it has been muted. And on top of that it's more expensive than mementus.

Then I smelled Roja Elysium. Don't know it;s me but that things smells very much like bdc. Maybe it's the bottle, only more tacky and 5X the price. You're actually being scammed real time, where they sell you the same product which can be found 5 stands away.

These have to be made only for people with near infinite money and not enough time to test anything because I can't see any1 actually paying those prices for this shit.

Aventus is definitely not overrated, at worst it's "well-rated" but insurrection pure II smells exactly the same to a pleb nose, and not that different to a patrish nose. one is $400 and one is $17. lol. i do love aventus though. i got a sample that was an extremely fruity batch and it was still good

I liked Viking, personally. Not worth it at American retail prices, but once it hits the grey market I might cop.

Elysium, I dunno. I kinda get the BdC vibe, but it smells much cleaner and more refined to me. Also doesn't vanish in 2 hours like BdC does.

>> No.12850646

>>12850627

it's not overrated? Mate, people are calling that stuff "the king of fragrances". I admit that it gets the compliments, It's my most complimented fragrance that I own. But scent wise, it's nowhere near as good as its hiped up to be. Even in the same house, you can't smell aventus and GIT back to back and say that aventus is better.

>> No.12850668

>>12850596
Some of their stuff smells nice. The main issue is the cringey names/themes, and the fact that all their scents are oils, so they're a bit of a pain to apply and have very poor projection.

Do keep in mind with them: their samples are actually like 1/5th of one of their bottles.

Oh, I am aware. I just know they actually do,like the Creed MI I'm wearing, because I've had several girls ask what it was and where they could get it because they wanted to buy it for themselves. That aside, I know a lot of other guys who do this sort of thing, and they're not generally complimented on their fragrances. A lot of the girls (and guys I know) have told me they actually don't like when a guy is wearing cologne because often they're wearing something very heavy and it stinks up their room for the whole day, but they tell me mine is nice because it's light and fresh.

So, if you go to Amsterdam ever and you're going to visit some of the ladies, make sure you're wearing a nice, light, freshie.
