It's scratched to shit, the crystal can easily be replaced but the case is totally fucked too. I'm assuming it's as poorly made as all the other Soviet watches which means it's chrome plated over pot metal so even if you wanted to polish up the case you couldn't.

>> No.12832040

>>12831989

The case is fine. The crystal is pretty fucked and even if that's acrylic you could polish it up.

Before you guys start flinging shit at each other over shitty OP's pic I'll post some nice links.

Hello, I have been sent here by /g/ and /adv/ because I need a little in looking for a watch.

I'll say immediately that I am no expert

I am searching for a watch similar to the one in the pic (skagen holst watch), but with a smaller diameter (38mm instead of 40), possibly with the seconds hand and a slightly darker colour for the leather.

Unfortunately I can't find one that I really like.

Other characteristics in common with the holst should be: crystal not in acrylic, reflective dial (also aquamarine, green, grey colours are fine), width of 6.5mm or less.

Anyone can help me?
Suggesting watch brands selling similar products is okay as well

Thanks a lot

The only thing you enjoy is the TAG HEUHEUHEU badge and you know it.

Which is fine. It's a cool badge with some interesting sartorial history.

But own that shit. You're a poorfag with a watch-badge fetish. Don't try to make that something it isn't. What you are wearing isn't a status piece. Never has been, never will be.

Different anon, but

Pre-quartz crisis, Heuer was a very accomplished watch brand (with a particular legacy around racing chronographs). After the crisis, it was aquired (like so many brands) and became tag Heuer. Unfortunately a great deal of tag's business is selling vastly overpriced, uninnovative watches and pouring money into aspirational advertising and celebrity tie-ins. Their high end stuff has gotten a little better more recently (as has everything in the lvmh group) with stuff like their microtimers and cheap tourbillons, but their basic business practice is the same. They've even started dropping "tag" from some of their watches, branding them simply as "Heuer".

Similar sad story with some of the bottom swatch brands like longines.

Would it be fucked up to wear a ladies Omega watch? I'm 6'1" but have little girl wrists. The only watch I find comfortable is my cheap Casio.

I see great deals on used Omegas for women, I thought maybe I could swap the band out for a manlier leather one, but I don't want people to laugh at me. Is this a faux pas?

It is a Bulova Accutron cal 224. As far as I'm aware Bulova didn't have specific case references so I'm unable to give you one.

The 224 was Bulova's (unsuccessful) answer the quartz crisis. It's basically a standard cal 218 (2nd generation tuning fork movement, the evolution of the original 214 that was in the spaceview), but with a quartz timing circuit driving the tuning fork timing - in other words, the tuning fork does not vibrate at it's natural frequency, but rather the electromagnets force the tuning fork to vibrate at a frequency controlled by the quartz crystal. Bulova took this approach to get a quartz watch going without investing in much r&d - in fact, only one wheel has to be changed out of the 218's gear train (due to the fork running at a different frequency). Ultimately though the 224 was too expensive and went through batteries too quickly compared to the stepper-motor based quartz watches that came to dominate.

I keep finding these obscure but cool looking vintage USSR watches and was wondering what do you guys think about them?

They are like $40, I am pretty sure they must be replicas even though they are advertised as real 70s-80s watches.
Mech movement and the insides look like they are new, with new cogs etc.

These watches are verrry cheaply made and will fall apart very fast. Even new vostok watches are worse than equally priced seikos by far.
They are mass produced in very poor conditions and that reflects in their price. The reason they are so cheap is because there are a million+1 of them and when one breaks you can just toss it. The only upside is that you wont need too take it in for repair and can just throw it away but dont be surprised when this cost over years ends up being more than just one decent one from a better era/company/region

You clearly do not know what you are talking about.
Even their late quartz pieces have worked for 30 to 40 years without any problem in some cases.
Their mechanicals are generally better from early era (60s and 70s), but even the later variants work very well.
It is your own fault that you use vostok komandirskie which is a absolute piece of shit watch as a reference point for the whole industry.
Like taking a swatch sistem 51 and them making a conclusion that the whole swiss industry is shit.

I think it depends on a few factors. If you have a a shiny gold watch and want it to be kind of a centerpiece or don't want to appear too gaudy you should probably wear flat metals elsewhere. If you're going for a more (I hate this word) 'rustic' theme then you should pair brass with rose gold or other flat metals.

And no I don't think it's being anal retentive. As long as the type of wear is appropriate for the setting, it does not matter. Wear the watch you want to wear because your watch displays your personality far more than any other piece of jewelry imo.
