No, the eyelets are really loose, they're designed to be tightened quickly but thoroughly, and they have speed hooks. If you're not going hiking you can definitely get away with a quick tug to tighten everything below the speed hooks

This pic shows what it looks like pretty accurately.

Black polish on brown looks very nice imo, gives it an artificial patina depending on how even you spread it. It darkens up the stitching real nice and darkens the wrinkles and creases.

I recently oiled my boots and the polish came off except in the earlier mentioned parts, its really hard to fuck them up unless you are really picky or you outright damage them.

yeah then I used mink oil, still drying on some sides, looking pretty good but yeah i used that quick polish liquid on them and they look pretty alright, giving it a more vintage look despite being from 1951. So after I sued that quick polish the dark spots arent very visible anymore and when i did the sides I only kept the top half of the sides of the boots bare. And for my brown cocorans im gonna go for that black polish trick on scrapes and wrinkles on them, that is a excellent idea.

Yeah the thing is, saddle soap is just that, a soap. I hope you didn't spread it on like a polish or conditioner. Its used for cleaning leather.

Anyway yeah they look extremely dry in that pic, if I received them like that, I would put a generous coating of shoe oil and then optionally polish the toe cap and heel. Liquid quick polish is really only for on the go no time to sit down and give a proper polish with wax and water or for junior ROTC cadets that can't get the hang of polishing.

Well for the oil I used huberts shoe oil (nice smoky smell btw), then i sued saddlesoap, leather lotion and then mink oil so i gave it the works. I have a similar pair in the same design but different color. But yeah for the wuick polish it gave it a wax coat so i can polish much easier and gave them a nice dark brown. heres my other un issued army boots from the 50's from the color and design, since the us army changed from brown to black in '53, im guessing these are mid 50's

I'm sure all of us who own a pair can say that isn't the case at all. Now, like most boots, they are susceptible to angles, a wearer pov view of the toe caps is really unflattering and makes them look bulky and mickeymouse-tier. It also depends on how you wear them, most people who buy them end up just trying to wear them like dress shoes like in pic. I think that defeats the entire point and what you end up with is just clunkier dress shoes when you aren't sitting down.

Saphir has the best polish and creams. Never going back to anything else. Pic related has 2 coats of tobacco brown and 1 coat of dark brown on the toe.

Anyway yeah still a strange and complicated order of shoe care but if they came out looking like that, who am I to say if its right or wrong. Now that I think about it, these have a different silhouette then ordinary Cocorans.

This was a recent pair going on ebay for like $45 however they are extremely old and damaged and had mildew inside. As you can see, the previous owner attempted to dye them black, my guess is because the new army standard was black.
