so I have an idea for a patched jacket
the idea is to make a document of all the images I want to be put on the jacket, print it onto a fabric, and then cut and adhere them to the jacket/base

any ideas on how I should go about this?
I dont plan on using screen printing because some of them have color, would it be an okay idea to just bring the pictures up to a screen printing store and see what they say?

I've been working on my own sneaker company brand for a few months now and have prototype sneakers and a bold logo design that makes us stand out. The first sneaker line we will be doing is in skateboarding wear and techwear.

My main concerns right now is promotion, getting the word out without any problems occurring. The trademarks for our logo and design patents are also in the works. So until those are finished I can't post pictures of my sneakers.

How do I get the word out in the Skateboarding and Techwear industries?

so far yes. the first one (black) had four strap anchor points, and the top two was too far apart for the straps to stay on my shoulders. I designed the new one with three anchor points to avoid this.

>what's the max weight capacity?
don't really know, but I do expect it to hold up to some abuse. they both have a singular piece body (one long centre piece), and the one currently at work has stainless steel hardware and is made out of 8-10oz (4mm max) saddle skirting- same sort of leather used for saddle making.

Decided to do some quick alterations on the neck of a jumper I knitted a while ago, and it turned into also ripping out the hem and sleeve ribbing. Then decided to try to save a bit of time by picking up the live stitches on the front hem I'd ripped back to rather than putting in a lifeline of any kind.

Long story short there were over a hundred of unsecured live stitches (the little end loops on the picture) out waiting to be picked up and any one of them slipping without me noticing results in a dropped stitch and unravelling. Didn't drop anyway but it was more stressful than it needed to be.
Always use a lifeline friends.

considering bleaching the life of leisure art onto the back of a purple shirt, what's the best way to do this? I need some way to signify the coast break, should I dip-dye the bottom half covering up the hair, then do layered stencils as described in that pastebin for body? also is there any way to capture the texture of the water, or would that just be a ballache to cut out/plot for little reward

how would I go about that with screen printing? the linked articles are more complex than I wanted and monochromatic/non-gradients like I'd expect bleach to produce. I'm unlikely to paint it because I've never done it before and don't want to waste materials (awful hand/eye coordination and moment to moment artistic judgement)
I guess my question is what is the difference between what I could produce with bleach and what I could screen print (control, precise tints, ?) or alternatively and more simply, how would you go about this, and what sort of thing would be produced?
>>12714631
thank you very much. do you think a delineation between water and sky is possible/worthwhile? I saw you can get a middle ground by dunking the shirt in water quickly (like the right shirt's filling), but it seems awkward to work in (lightly bleached bottom half, heavily done body/shadow/coastline/text, rest covered?) my other concern is how to place it to make it smoothly part of the shirt (i.e. starting from the seam with the coast, but that blows up the figure's size proportionally, having a horizon means half the shirt has to be processed->more fuckup surface and maybe mandates mirroring on back etc.) you don't necessarily have to answer all/any of this, I just need to think it through and wouldn't for a while if not forced to in text

That's a pretty simple design to do by hand - it's mostly just lines, biggest issue you'd run into is keeping your sleeve taut because it'd likely be too small an area for a standard hoop you'd find in craft shops, but that's either fixed by finding a smaller hoop somewhere, finding another way to keep it taut or just chancing it with loose material (wouldn't recommend).

After that it's just a case of getting a needle and some floss. If you can do a basic back stitch you're set, if you can't it'll take you about 15 minutes at most to learn.
Practice on wok scrap fabric first doing the design, then sketch it out on your sleeve and go.

>mind sharing a bit of your story on how you started leatherworking?

nothing special. I initially started watching leatherworking videos on youtube when I was 15-16 and found them incredibly comforting, but being a poor (and unemployed) kid at the time meant that all I could do then was watch vids but that petered off knowing that it was an unaffordable hobby. Pink Floyd's "Time" actually motivated me to get a hobby to spice up the time I was wasting, and when I got a decent paying job a few years later the thing I spent my first paycheque on was a roll of cxl and a few cheap tools. turning 20 soon.

would def get into sewing fabric soon too.

>how pricey is it?

about 250 on supplies for this specific project, and just about 1500 on tools.

the material used in the new bag is sort of free of charge. I spent 160 cad on 15 sq ft of saddle skirting but the supplier sent the wrong material (15 sq ft of carving leather). Contacted them and they sent me the proper roll free.

I don't really see how it communicates with being in hoodie or tee either, not something people really even consider but personally I think there needs to be a connection, otherwise it's just image and whatever clothing article
the cigarette just seems kinda edgy, everything you add to the picture is always a conscious choice, what do you think something like pot leafs communicate on images of tees and shirts? maybe needles or crackpipes?
I'm not drawing it as straight comparison but you decided to have it there, think about the different angles it can be viewed from because there will be different people seeing it

Lmao I kinda just mimiced blazer patterns i found online and copied them as geometrically as I could to large sheets of paper. I only took the bust measurement and winged the rest, as I can fix any body issues with a dart or two. Thus i ended up attaching and cutting off the sleeve at least three times to slim it and get a decent fit

It's unlined, but I'm using 10oz denim so it's somewhat substantial. I wasn't sure if I wanted to add pockets or not, but since I'm going to omit the cuff plackets I'm too lazy to do, I thought I might as well keep the whole thing m i n i m a l

Intarsia is the name of a knitting technique to introduce patterns and shapes into knitwear that aren't repeating patterns so he might have been talking about that. If not there might be a sewing or embroidery technique that follows a similar concept? I don't know I don't sew, there might not be.

I think the name originally comes from a woodwork technique or something like that but if it was a clothing designer I can't imagine they'd mean the wood technique.

Not in language that would help anyone and I really don''t have the time and energy to translate. Lot of it needs to be explained well too and I'm not too good at that and I would have to do it through text over internet which would be a nightmare.
I think it's just the process of creating something that gets to me eventually. First you have idea that you like, you think about it and refine it and make a plan how to make it, then you make the patterns, decide the fabrics and get them, do a proto, any additional techniques/shit that needs to be done and eventually get to actually make the real thing
But at every step during that journey you doubt yourself and criticize the aspect you are currently working on and you constantly have to have the original idea on your head and the thing you are aiming to produce as well and you just get sick and tired and bored of the idea eventually and then all you are left with is all the criticism that goes through your head during the creative process.
So basically I start with an idea I think I like and by the time I have something to show for it all I see is garbage. Not that I don't like the process and creating things and I always learn more shit, there is just nothing worthwhile to show for it.

I kind of like them, and you did a decent job at what you're going for.
I wouldn't know what to suggest, but I'd prefer to expect thicker(?) paint that wouldn't bleed, and near the toes it kind of looks like the colors are way too mashed up.
But honestly pretty good anon.

im making some pillows out of what's left of a bunch of blue satin brocade with an awesome dragon design on it that i found for like 1/10th of the price it would have cost new.

i previously made a satin robe for a friend using the majority of said blue brocade.

the remainder is becoming one side of a pillow case for the living room couches. i intend on making at least 4 since i have enough material, maybe 6. i'm thinking of making at least 2 of them with gold corner tassels and/or a gold trim around the edge.

the pics dont do them justice, the backing is also a layered effect, a blue voile over a gold lame so it has a nice iridescent kind of effect because the voile also has a bit of a metallic sheen. overlayed on the gold gives it a unique look.

all the material was found at 2nd hand stores.

looks cool. recommend experimenting with tie-dye styles not just spirals or circles, a gridded pattern, rays, etc.

also for aging/distressing, try using steel wool and/or sandpaper around the collar edges, shoulders, etc. to give it a more worn look vs. just a hole. i'm too chicken to just go for holes tho so that's me!

otherwise looks cool.... band tees are fun to change up.

it depends on the designer i guess? if they had materials made custom for them, intend on using them for other areas (ie if they're big theyll do home furnishings and whatnot) or just want them to be kept for other uses.

i've worked for movies/tv and after those wrap it's dependent on what the production and the contractor or drapery lead negotiated with the picture company. the company might own it, they might give it back and the shop will keep it on hand and lend it out for other shows, etc..

one place to keep an eye out for fire sales or liquidations are theater or opera companies since they'll have to do a lot of set dressing and costuming so if they have shops theyll probably do a sale at least once or twice a year to make space and get rid of old materials just gathering dust.

ur better off just replacing those jeans, if you try to re-dye or color it it'll look weird. it's more because the denim weave is worn after being done deliberately so it's not as easy as just re-coloring... your pocket will end up poking through anyway, etc. just get new jeans! i know how it is if you find a pair that works and have to reluctantly agree to replace/upgrade.

Really the problem is that only half the yarns in denim cloth are dyed, and the rest are white. So if you try to dye it after weaving, you'll turn the white fibers blue, and they won't fade to white properly. I still think it would be an interesting look, peicedyed jeans

Damn that's nice to hear, I feel honored.

Well first I hope you have access to a workshop because you can't do everything ( and by this I mean cutting the shape off of the acetate plate ) by hand. Or you could but it would take sooo much time for such an uneven result. Then you need to have access to some pieces, like rivets, hinges... So in short I think it's impossible to pull off if you don't have access to a specialized workshop, I'm sorry mate

The green is diopside, the blue is apatite, and the brown is sandstone I think? Held together with nylon coated stainless steel threading, finished with gold plated covers and toggles.
I'm not about the 'mystical' properties of the stones, but I like to make them reminiscent of landscapes (bracelet is supposed to look like pic related).
Most materials can be bought online via jewelry sites (fire mountain, amazon if you know what you're looking for, etsy, lima beads, bead jungle, etc.) and/or neighborhood stores, think these mostly came from fire mountain? Don't remember exactly.
For components, stay away from michaels and any Chinese sites (pandahall, alibaba, dhgate, etc.), though you can use beads from them, just don't expect best quality or 100% to look like the picture they post online.

Interdastin stuff: natural dyes and mordants

I used vinegar water that'd had nails sitting in them for a few days as mordant, and coffee as dye. So basically, the mordant on its own barely discolors the fabric, while coffee on its own stains it tan. When put together (the fabric was dipped in one solution after the other) they make a sort of brownish gray. The one on the left I put in mordant and let dry, then I repeatedly dipped it in coffee. On the other I coffee stained, then mordanted. I'm not sure how the colors will hold up in the wash, i've still got some experimenting to do.

Not much, but here's some stuff

I mixed some coffee and mordant, about 7:1, and now the liquid is pitch black, and it dyes fabric a proper warm, dark grey. I hand washed the bottom inch of the strip with soap and water, and it seems fairly colorfast, at least in comparison to my experience with coffee alone. Keep in mind that all these liquids were at room temp when I dipped them, so I'm guessing using heat will significantly boost the fixedness of the dye.
