You're right, at least about high fashion. Most American contributions to fashion have been utilitarian and street/pop culture movements. Fashion as art is a pretty urban concept, and America has been mostly frontier and farmland til relatively recently.

If you consider how brief its history is, US cultural impact on the world is unprecedented, but again, seriously lacking in high fashion. And since it's a nation of immigrants/ex slaves, most American innovations could be seen as multinational collaborations.
