Crossbody clutches are nice, messengers are cool if you are a college student or a prep (maybe same goes for satchels, I have mixed feelings about them). Envelope clutches if you are feeling fancy or going to a fancy place.
I personally am a backpack purse type of person. Leather preffered.
Also - Tote bags have to go for good.
About wallets...I don't carry a wallet. Can't say anything on the topic.

I currently carry an all-black Articulate wallet (RFID-blocking, etc) in my back pocket, but I feel kinda silly with it. It's a tad bulky for my tastes, but it seems like most women's wallets are even bigger. I've never carried a wallet/clutch before. It seems like a pain to have to hold on to it all the time?

Articulate wallet seems reasonable, not too much in other people's faces. And yes, these days women tend to carry the most ridiculous wallets out there. A huge A4 paper size wallet inside a even bigger tote bag is a nightmare.
Wallet clutches that you have to hold on to are a pain in the ass, I would put myself through it only if I wear a fancy dress and need to pair it with an envelope clutch.
In any other case - crossbody clutches are the way to go.

I actually do have this Scully Noah sling pack, which is my usual go-to bag when I'm not at school, but it seems a tad bulky to wear with everything. Convenient, though.

I just realized it retails for $125. Wew. I got it for like, $4 at Goodwill last year. \o/ And here I thought it was just some cheapshit no-name brand.

Are you looking for an everyday backpack or just whatever purse to hold stuff in? If you don't insist on it being a packpack, maybe look for some kind of a small satchel? Depends on you overall style.

-crossbody/top zipper are the best, bonus for convertible straps
-totes are disgusting and if youre not coming from/going to the supermarket you should be ashamed
-clutches suck
-backpacks are for faggots, how old are you?
-messengers are meh but not worth the pain if youre actually using it for business/work, which brings me back to backpacks

Uhm. I think a backpack would be even bulkier and kinda silly for daily wear? This sling bag can either be worn cross-body or as a backpack (the straps have a zipper between them.) So ya, probs just a purse.

Not a fan of most satchels. As for style, I'd like to get in to stuff like this. (My current wardrobe is pretty bare and boring. I'm hoping to expand it a little bit in the upcoming year, but I still don't have a job yet.)
