Techwear refers to garments with advanced technical properties; water resistance, light weightedness, cuts for extra range of motion are all examples of what comes under the techwear umbrella. The general consensus of the wider community is that when it comes to aesthetics, techwear is an umbrella term encompassing many different styles, from minimalism to cyberpunk, all united by the common interest in functionality.

copped a 84LAB Adidas x Kazuki Karuishi Fishing Jacket. From my review on the discord:

:b:opped a 3L jacket by adidas, the 84LAB fishing jacket. Has 8 pockets at the front, c_change waterproof membrane (with temperature sensitive moisture permeabilty) and a drawstring around the middle. it's a light jacket with extremely well water and wind resistance and features two zips are the front to allow as such. this should be done without tightening the drawstrings. retail was $580 which is steep, but I luckily found it for a mere €85 on ebay, worn three times. (like new, no signs of wear).

I'm a fan of the m65 styling because it's flattering when on the body, the various methods of tightening create a nice silhouette and it fits comfortably.

To add: conter intuitively: the zippers are NOT waterproof zippers. However, the construction of the jacket is so that the zipper never see the light of day: two overlapping pieces of fabric along the front zipper fold over the front zipper to stop any water from reaching it. The red area in the pic is one of these hidden zippers: the pocket is tucked away behind layers of fabric to prevent any water from reaching a potential non-waterproof part.

w2c similar pants?

I'm getting a new pair of shoes next week that aren't strictly techwear, but I need something functional and minimalistic to go with them (the shoes are a pair of black Vivobarefoot ones that I wanted to try out, pic related)

Ideally the pants would be tapered, or at least be skinny towards the ankles to keep them in check and in line with the shoes.

excuse the pic. It's the only one I have of Mr. Scarecrow on hand.

real talk:
that design is simplified, probably to make animation easier in action shots. Specific details like the pockets in mine must be tracked, and serve as reference points. This means pushing the animation by breaking the spine or distorting the volume becomes more apparent and therefore shallow.
Whereas in your pic, it's all smooth surfaces.
Smooth surfaces mean it's just volume that needs to be maintained and transferred.

It's complicated and I can't give a full explanation without heavy visual referencing, but don't try a fit based on that design.
Don't try a fit based on this design either, 2bh, unless you're using it as "inspo" when looking through milslurp.

But that's not techwear.

Post probably not because it intends to be cheap, easily mass-produced, and with durability as the primary concern.

That being said, gorka 4 is a nice outer layer, but in that role it would dominate a fit and therefore be pointless.

Depends on what you go for - most milsurp stuff tends to be mass produced and cheap.

However, if you dig a bit further and get into the really techy military stuff like Arktis/Ark Air it can really work. Ark Air have some bonkers camouflage patterns that would work well in techy and lunarcore fits.

Kid, there's more to the construction that you need to explore such as DWR. And taking a look through their store as of right now, most of their stuff is composed of Nylon, polyester, or a mix.

And your elitism, of what is real techwear. They have function, they choose form over it and because of that they'll never be on the level of other brands.

Techwear has a real meaning in the clothing industry.

It sounds like you have limited knowledge since you're including addidas into a genre it doesn't belong in.

I don't know your budget, but some brands that come to mind are Mission Workshop and Outlier. And I bet you can find many other cyclist brands who's goals are the same as them.

"Techwear" has been a search term that has been used in google since 2004. Alaska is area where the search term has been specifically popular. If it doesn't click already, before the term was hijacked by kids wearing traditional japanese garbs and cargo pants with 20 pockets, it actually had a meaning.
Technical, functional clothing.

Name another top tier techwear brand.
Acronym and GG are the only ones that come to mind. Maaaybe TNF purple but that's a stretch and it's overpriced crap anyway.
Gyak is a lower price point and it's more sports oriented.
I own some Y-3 pieces and the quality is really, really bad. Not top tier imo though they charge a premium for retail.

Thinking about it, trekking/hiking clothes are techwear. Mammut, Northface, Marmot, etc.
Clothes that are designed for comfortable fit, usually using some sort of advanced materials to be durable under stress and water-resistant while allowing for sweat evaporation.

Not exactly a black urban ninja cosplay, but they are practical and comfortable in shitty climates.

Yeah, glad you came to realization. As this might sound like a recent breakthrough in the fashion industry, the practice of incorporating functional clothing has been around for ages, seen in many military clothing, hiking and hunting gear, and so as athletic clothing. It's only till recently more and more people are taking interest into technical clothing, more new brand names come to the market to cater our desires, and existing brands make a shift adding functional clothing options to their catalogs.

Was mostly a figure of speech. Of course it's what actual techwear is - clothing designed for use in shitty conditions.
I don't browse this board often, and after reading this thread my first thought was "hey, isn't most of the stuff that I bought for cycling and hiking exactly that?"
Then I looked at the prices for Acronym and other clothing like that and laughed. A thin jacket or pants that cost as much as a used car? Some of the articles cost more than the entire cost of equipment I bought for trekking in Himalayas. Holy shit guys. You can buy nice, durable clothing that uses advanced materials from decent brands for far less than that.

Just admit it guys, you care about style first and foremost, and you don't care much about technical properties of the fabric. I mean, I like the stylistics somewhat, when it's not completely out there, but if I wanted to get clothing mainly for it's technical properties, this is not what I would look for.
