Seen a few general watch threads pop up with some totally heinous posts. Ugly, shitty faced watches with cheap movements to match. This is the thread for good quality or beautiful watches that don't necessarily cost a luxury sum.
Just share your beautiful finds.

Pic is what I just ordered.

Does anybody know of any reasonably priced watched with a bi or uni directional GMT bezel? The obvious example is the rolex types, and I've seen cheaper GMT hands but with no directional bezel which is what I'm after.

So I have the money to purchase something like a Rolex Sea-Dweller, oyster perpetual, or a Omega Speedmaster Professional. However, I don't really feel like I am worthy enough to purchase one, mainly because I really haven't had any milestone in my life where I said to myself that I have left my footprint. Also because I don't make much yearly to fit into the bracket range of pruchasing these watches, as of yet.

With that being said, the only watch I currently own is a digital gold casio meme watch. So I sort of want to grow up and get something worthwhile.

Instead of buying a pricy watch for my first true one, I was wanting a dependable watch that's under $500 USD, would look good dressed up with a black leather strap, but would still look good dressed down with a nato or untanned leather strap for whenever I go hiking/camping.

I was thinking something like a Seiko SURB, but I wanted /fa/'s opinion first.

its boring, so working with what we have the bracelet is ok, brand helps to identify quality so any text could be shiny black, hands should be stirling silver and cut in a trapezium shape but subtley, like the hands are, hands should be smaller between the 12,3,6,9. face should be a sunburst black dial so it reacts differently under angles of light, second hand should be way thinner, cant comment on the crystal but hate the lug to bracelet connection. makes the whole thing look cheap.

Rolex as a brand is generally ok, I'm considering one myself. Yes they are expensive, much more than they should be, but they also do retain their value much better than anything else.

At the moment I kinda feel the same way about them as that beautiful new Tissot Visodate, cool looking, decently made (not well finished though). However, if there's ever an issue, I'm worried that servicing could cost more than the watch, as the less than luxury brands have less focus on it.

Wait, what? If $400 is "ashtray change" to you, then we get it--you're rich (according to you). But if you were rich, why would you spend $400 on a watch that isn't aesthetically pleasing or impressive? If I were to guess your financial situation purely based off of the look of your watch, I'd say you were anything but rich.

So it looks like you're either lying about your wealth or the price of the watch, or you actually paid $400 for that, in which case you're retarded.

You're the one who just keeps coming back with insults and without any kind of counterargument. If you want to clarify your position a little we can have a more serious discussion.

Do you think that the slightly modified ETA movement is good quality at that price?
How much do you think their modifications add to the movement it's based on?
If we agree that the Nomos design is at best an homage, how much do you think that distinct aesthetic style contributes to the value of the watch?
You keep bringing up seiko/swatch group watches, how much is it being separate from those worth to you?

I think a beautifully decorated, in house movement not found in countless other watches at all kinds of price points is a good thing, isn't it? Quality wise, a Nomos DUW movement is definitely made by higher standards than a ETA 2824 or a Selitta movement. You can't really argue about that. Just look at the movement itself and how it's made. Nomos makes a lot more by hand that any other mass-producing manufacturer at that price point and even than at way higher price points. That's a fact.
As for swatch, fitting an undecorated movement, found in all kinds of watches, without any exclusivity and craftsmanship whatsoever, into a €1000+ watch isn't exactly the point of owning/buying an "expensive" watch in my opinion. Limiting their supply because they finally realized that this is going to hurt their image in the long run doesn't help either. If swatch doesn't come up with something nice when it comes to ETA, they will be fucked in a few years. Their new movements in collaboration with Omega are pretty ok, but still don't adress the main issue they are plagued by: exclusiveness and justification of their prices.
As for their design: Nomos took a classic design and brought it back to life, what's wrong with that? All their other designs are fucking awesome, new and innovative. I just liked the classic bauhaus design best and pretty much perfect for everything, that's why I went with the Tangente.
Even TAG is ripping designs like crazy, not to speak of the poor quality for their prices and what I already said about movements. Seiko is ripping off basically everybody. People in here get mad at Nomos but think Stowa and Junghans are great brands. It's ridiculous.
If you want a "completely original design" then get a Rolex and be happy.

And then we are at another point of modern watchmaking seemingly done right only by Nomos: brand image. Every single entry-level swatch brand, except for maybe a few longines pieces, is aimed at the same type of idiots. It's either people who want to show off their new, overpriced and unexclusive watch to their also-boring co-workers or people who don't want to/can't spend more than around 1000 bucks on a watch and want something that is "swiss anyway". Mainly for social recognition.
You see, debating about why a TAG or something similar is better than a Nomos is completely futile. Because it's just fucking unreal.
There's literally not a single better manufacturer at that price point than Nomos.

That pic is clearly from chrono24, chronext or some other german private-market site.
Listen, this dude selling the watch is an individual, not a company. A single private seller, ok? He may have gotten the watch cheap for himself somehow or he just doesn't like it and now sells it. It could be a fake listing too, but I'm not claiming that.
Do you get that? Do you understand this?
I can buy a watch for a million dollars and sell it for one dollar. That doesn't really influence the general market value of the watch. I was sure you'll come up with something like that though.
I'm not going to search around for some dude selling some other watch for half off on ebay, but I hope you get my point anyway.
I've been to countless serious watch stores and also looked at a lot of serious online retailers, always checking discounts and prices on different watches and brands. That's why I initially claimed your argument is invalid.

Yeah I see what you mean about the branding, doesn't bother me too much personally. As for the colour they also make this variant. It also kind of is a cheap watch, I'm not really after it as a status symbol, I think the movement looks nice. Cheapest tourbillon with decent reviews that I know of.

You keep going on on how shitty Nomos is, but the only argument you have is that one single model is sold at a great discount from some third party, unofficial retailer on an auction-esque website.
And you are again completely missing my point you fuckhead.
I didn't ask if you understand out of arrogance, but simply because I have the impression that, well, you do not understand. And a post like yours is exactly what I wanted to avoid with that statement.
Meanwhile your arrogance makes you just alter your initial (wrong) fact a little and come up with it again.
And here we are, with you not understanding shit.
I've had a look at watchdeal, what does this go for new? Like 9k or something? It's just among the first few I found, I'm sure there's lots and way more extreme examples like this.

This is a listing on a website comparable to ebay, just for watches, alright?
The company you cited, selling these watches on said website, has absolutely nothing to with anything official from Nomos at all, ok? Private seller or very small business, completely irrelevant. Almost the same place value.
On that website, lots of watches are offered way cheaper than somewhere else ok? From TAGs to Rolex, whatever.

What you are doing right now is claiming that Nomos is a bad company because it's featured on a website like this, like many other brands are, being offered cheaper (again, like lots of brands are) by some small, unofficial business.
Do you fucking understand now why your point is completely irrelevant or will you keep altering and molding random facts to your liking?

Not true. There are multiple ETA movements at multiple levels of quality. The worst of ETA movements could be compared to Chinese knockoffs, but those weren't the same ones Panerai was using.

Doesn't excuse a high end watch brand not using its own in-house movement, but to say it's similar is sophism.

>What you are doing right now is claiming that Nomos is a bad company because it's featured on a website like this, like many other brands are, being offered cheaper

Routinely hiking the MSRP and having the real value land at a substantial cut of that price to create the illusion of exclusivity has been an industry plague for decades. It exists in all kinds of hobbies and the worst offenders are precisely those who want to create a false appearance of extra value.

Something with a theoretical price of X dollars that consistently goes for X-50% has a value of X-50%.

Your Rolex purchase will not depreciate this much, because while you will always lose money buying new and then trying to flip it, the real value is much closer to the purchase price, and it tends to stay consistent over time. Don't get me wrong, I think they're a tacky overpriced watch brand. But the economic point being made here is pretty simple. You just seem (economically?) invested in not getting it.

> The Lambda retails at $18,000 in rose gold and $20,000 in white gold.

So just like the original poster showed you, this watch routinely resells for about half the MSRP despite having actual precious metals in it to boot. That should be a huge red flag if you want to talk value.

I got one as a gift a few years ago, pretty nice day to day watch, goes with a lot and isn't as garish as you'd think. It's not a GREAT watch but for the price its pretty damn good.

I really wanna buy a digital casio but I fucking hate all the fonts on the face fucking advertising its functions.
it looks completely retarded.

I still can't believe other no-name shit brands produce digital watches like that but all come with EL backlighting while most only Casio have that dull ass LED for lighting. on top of that, no metal case and the paint comes off so I think I'd go full plastic anyway.

then I'd like to have at least 50m WR. most of them don't even have that and my only critique on the B640 would be the case depth. I find 10mm already too much. so I really don't know which one to get.

I heard somewhere that the A168 has better backlighting than the A158 which is basically an F91W in a silver case

>> No.12428261

what do I cop
I guess all good ones are at least like 1000€
so I want a "cheap" one, maybe like ~200€ max
pls no leather and pls no chronograph
bonus point if it has date (month and year aren't so important, day is more important)

yes there are plenty. you just have to look up the dimensions. it depends on how big you want it to be then. e.g. this is the casio w-215 with 41mm case diameter and 11mm case depth.
it comes in other colors too (black, white, pink, black with red inner frame). also, the G-Shock ones are usually bigger but that's a different product line.

I only like the small watches more because I'm a wristlet and left-handed so I want something without a crown and smaller.

I like its simplicity and understatedness over something like a Rolex/Omega/Breitling etc. I also prefer the way it looks over the PP Nautilus.

Open to suggestions honestly. I also like A. Lange & Sohne's lineup but like the way the PP looks over them.

>> No.12430774

>>12430618
There are a lot more brands than Rolex/Omega/Breitling/PP in that price range. Take a look at Vacheron Constantin, Urban Jurgensen, Breguet, Glashutte Original, lange, Zenith, H. Moser & Cie, De Bethune, etc. Once you're in the $20000 bracket, you have a lot of options.
