Yes, but that's okay. As long as you understand the history of the Hamilton Ventura and can at least explain a little bit about the that to the average person who asks, you'll be fine. It was the first electronic (battery) watch produced, back in the 1950's, so that's cool.

Here on /fa/, Timex has the reputation of falling apart.
I'm not really sure where this comes from, because I have an Expedition that still works fine after a lot of wear.
Since you're new to watches, that would be a solid first choice. Even if it does crap out, at least you didn't spend much on it.

Is there any point in getting a nice watch if I don't normally dress well? I've been reading about mechanical watches and have become kinda fascinated, looking at a couple in the 1k-2k range.

Any Speedy Pros hold their value better than others? Not looking to buy to invest but knowing I could get my money back would be a big draw.

Was looking at getting one from the year I was born. Looking around there seems to be fewer from 1986 and they didn't use sapphire then as far as I'm aware, plus a display back would be nice.

Unless you're really interested in watch movement or horology, there is no point in spending that much for an auto. Even if you spend 1-2k, you're still getting a shitty pleb-tier auto.

If you're a beginner and have casual style, just get a diver to get your feet wet i.e skx007. save your money, anon. spend more in the future if you want to turn it into a hobby

If you want an auto then you can't go wrong with an SNK, SKX or Alpinist for a quality piece on a budget. Or a Hamilton khaki if you're looking at spending a bit more. Look at divers or military style automatics for something which will look smart but not too dressy. Can always buy whatever you like then stick it on a NATO or leather strap for a more dressed down look.

Always loved pic related for an entry level luxury watch if you want to spend around 2k.

I am about to pull the trigger on a Omega Seamaster Pro 300m Automatic in Electric Blue has the 1120 movement in it. I think it's one of the most beautiful watches ever made. Now here's what's bothering me this is the first nice watch I will have purchased and it's a little flashy not a standard black/white dial and stainless it has that gorgeous blue dial and the polished stainless. This has forced me to consider buying the Speedmaster Professional which is considerably more boring aesthetically but still historically meaningful. I know they both have good movements although I prefer the auto.

I know I will end up buying the moonwatch at some point but the auto SMP 300s in this color are getting rarer and more expensive and I love this watch should I follow my heart or go with a more traditional watch?

I mean the Electric blue with a brown strap or a nato strap is going to look amazing.

It's just something about the black with the black tach and dial makes me think it's more versatile. Although I know that the stainless band or a black leather band is the only way to wear it.

I need some opinions. The two I am looking at are almost the exact same price so that's not a factor. The reason I am buying it is to celebrate the fact that I am making real money. I also graduated from college a year ago and never got myself anything to celebrate.

Beauty is in the eye and everything...personally I think the Speedy is much nicer looking but they are both beautiful watches. Sounds like you've got your heart set on that one, so I'd say go for it. More info.. I don't wear a suit. I wear a mix between street wear brands and fashion brands when I am not working. I have my own style but sometimes I incorporate certain trends I like for example colors or patterns that are popular that season. My formal attire is incredibly basic I have One White Turnbull & Asser Dress Shirt and One Navy Blue Brooks Brothers Suit. I wear this suit maybe twice a year. I would love to have a flashy suit like something from Thom Browne but it would be a waste plus straight guys that aren't in the NBA or Models can't seem to pull this style off. The most formal I get is Jeans and a shirt with a sports jacket. At work I wear jeans and a Flannel sometimes corduroys. I am in the contracting business right now but I am only doing it to save money for law school and I like the fact that I can live in a place I like and make a lot of money for 40 hours a week. So I plan to enjoy it while it lasts I am only 24.

It's a modern copy of the first watch worn in open space during the first Russian space walk, though that one had gold hands. It has a Russian movement made by essentially the same company who made the original (with Swiss machines that were sold off during the quartz revolution so it's pretty impressive engineering for the price actually) to add some authenticity but it's still a copy.

They want to put me in jail, they're robbing me of everything I have, they're continuously lying about me. I've had enough of this shit. The latest thing they've done is I had some stuff in storage back in Pasadena for 12 years, spent a fortune on storage fees, a fortune on safes... and these God-damn Jews in America have just gone and grabbed it all.

>They're lying bastards. Jews were always lying bastards throughout their history. They're a filthy, dirty, disgusting, vile, criminal people.

>My main interest right now is to expose the Jews. This is a lot bigger than me. They're not just persecuting me. This is not just my struggle, I'm not just doing this for myself... This is life and death for the world. These God-damn Jews have to be stopped. They're a menace to the whole world.

>I have a crazy quirk, Eugene. I like to say what I think. And if you're gonna work for the Jews, you can no longer say what you think. You can't say the holocaust never happened, for example. That is an absolute no-no. You can't say that circumcision is a crime. There are so many things you cannot say once you get on the Jewish bandwagon. … There used to be a lot of people like me, but little by little the Jewish spirit seems to be conquering all.

Vintage seamasters and random nameless omegas are plentiful in silver and champagne dials, less so with black and other colors. 250 for a silver dial, twice that for a black one. Either way, get it serviced, expect to pay around 400 dollars, even more for complete restoration. Ask a lot of questions and ask a lot of pictures from inside and out, ie. you want to see the movement for signs of rust and the dial for water damage. Get one with stainless steel case, gold plated one is more expensive and will look worse with wear and tear. Don't get the first one you see either, shop around. Good luck!

Most Tag Heuer pics are like that.

And it has become a pretty shitty company, they have obviously gone down in quality since they started putting more into advertising and branding. For instance, no watch worth even a few hundred bucks should have any plastic parts in its movement, yet Tags costing thousands do.

It makes sense, Tag is owned by LVMH, so it's a primarily a luxury brand nowadays rather than a watch brand. As I said, I do like their designs and if I was a richfag I'd probably buy one, but since I'm not, I want a better price to quality ratio.

I love Hamilton but taking their field watch with a day/date and putting a diving bezel around it is pretty ridiculous and ugly.

>victorinox maverick
Nice, I didn't know about a Victorinox diver. I'll try to check it out in person.

>Longines Hydroconquest
I know about this one but it's slightly too expensive and very chunky which doesn't look great on my wrist. I am considering it though.

For around a hundred bucks they're fine buys. Just don't expect to impress anyone with it. Go for a traditional style though -- something that you notice with good brands is that they go for function first and design second. And most of these cheap, non-watch brands fuck up when they try to be fancy (like putting a diver on a leather strap).

If I were you I'd rather pay 200-250 for a quartz Tissot, but it depends on how much you're willing to spend.

If you do want to be cooler, you can buy an automatic Seiko or Orient, there are some in the same price range, it just depends on if you care about having a mechanical movement or not. If not, or you don't know what it means, go for a quartz.

Thanks guys, this is my first swiss watch, I've only ever owned Seikos before. I used to be really into watches a few years ago and went through a fair amount of newer and vintage Seikos, but settled down out of that and have just been wearing a Seiko 5 for quite a while.

Received the MKII as a surprise gift, so this one will be around for the rest of my life. The case is very thick, but somehow it is actually quite comfortable, and I don't feel that it is too big, even on my 6.5" wrists. And I can see what you mean about the bracelet, but I actually like the way it is- the lightness and flexibility of it are what helps to make the watch work on my wrist.

That street goes both ways. Nobody buys a watch based solely on the way it looks without at least knowing if it's quartz or mechanical. By your logic, most people wouldn't mind if their watch didn't even work since it's "purely a fashion accessory," and everyone has a phone in their pocket that's better at telling time anyway.

I was between this and a SARB033 but went w/ the latter because of the versatility. Is the dial as prominent as I thought or is it repetitively subtle in person. If it's more quiet I might pick it up desu

I've been wanting to try the ones from Synergy for a while. Can you feel the little nubs while wearing the watch?

usually no because the cases are thick enough to keep them off your wrist

>Are Seiko watches any good? Any great watches under $100?

Yes, Seikos are good watches for the price.

For good watches around $100: Seiko 5, Orient, Vostok, Timex, Casio, Citizen.

If you don't care about automatic, just get quartz

15.00usd all three cost 50 rougly. theres a seller or ebay with 700 vintage s5's all of witch have been serviced for sale but you judge from the photos yourself if the cosmetic damage is too much. went back the next day and so many were gone so glad i got them when i did, imo these are the better pick, other great pieces had flaked indices, still some good stuff left for the 40 buck mark.
