This finally arrived and at first I thought I got memed into spending 30 €. Holy shit this is rancid for the first 45min to an hour.

I will give it a few more chances. I read some people also had this with a first few sprays and later it got better. I have no idea if that actually changes anything but my was a first spray out of a bottle.

I don't know, some fragrances generally have really bad opening for the first few minutes. Like Midnight in Paris. I don't care so much for the opening but absolutely love what it becomes after 15 min.

Why would I exclude some great scents because they don't smell good at first?

But you're just swapping Macy's for Saks. It's still being worn by lots of people, just ones with more money. You have no agency other than choosing which mass produced product to buy from which retailer, no different from a white trash teen buying an Ed Hardy frag from the Cheektowaga Marshall's. Sorry to burst your bubble.

This whole notion of exclusivity really stumps me. How often do you run in to a male wearing a fragrance in real life? How often is it something you recognize? How often is it the same frag twice? I don't think I've ever smelled a particular frag more than once in public. Even if you wear AdG or some hugely popular frag, the odds of anyone recognizing it are minuscule. Life's too short to worry about stuff like that.

this is a ridiculous statement. i'm not swapping macy's for saks, i'm swapping macy's for every other fragrance in existence in the world, mass produced and not, well known or not.

i'm not concerned with someone recognizing my fragrance any more than i'm concerned someone recognizing my plain grey sweatshirt is from the gap. fragrance is just a personal journey with me. it's about how a smell makes me feel, or what story it tells, or where it takes me. like i said, i wear a fragrance when i want to feel special. and a drugstore/mall fragrance just takes the magic out of it.

Sorry to burst Creed users' bubble, but the only real oils used in Aventus are birch, rose and patchouli and maybe citronellol from the bergamot. The apple, blackcurrent, pineapple, juniper berries, jasmine, vanilla, musk and ambergris are synthetics (I don't get why they still list Oakmoss as a note since the ban, Veramoss is the only viable replacement unless they do molecular extraction which I doubt) The "batch variations" that Creed do to convince people that they use a higher percentage of naturals are just slight alterations of either the natural birch oil for the smokiness or the Manzanate synthetic if they want a "fruitier batch". Apart from wanting to still be "exclusive" some of the price hike is justifiable since the price of most rose absolutes have increased by 40 percent.

>>12347193
Well obviously, I was just talking about Aventus in particular, because a lot of people are blinded by marketing. Erm the IFRA *have* restricted many naturals, but that doesnt stop a handful of places from using methods to dodge around the pesky guidelines (for example, using molecular extraction on the two molecules in Oakmoss that are allergenic to the small percentage of people) Just because someone specifies on talking about one thing doesnt mean that they aren't aware of the bigger scale. So its kind of arrogant to assume that I haven't even heard of the IFRA guidelines, especially when I mentioned a way for perfumers to get around restrictions of one raw material in particular. So apart from an excuse to act condescending and all-knowledgeable towards someone that knows a fair deal about the IFRA, I am not really sure about the point of *your* "point".

Sorry to burst nichefag's bubbles, but the whole entire thing is marketing, nobody actually wants to smell someone else who smells like a pile of dung in a fruit bat cave despite what delusional fragheads seem to believe.

Some people like Creed because Creed smells great. Other people like Creed because it is just expensive enough, and just well-known enough, for fragheads to posture about how it's not obscure enough and therefore anyone who has ever felt a positive emotion while inhaling pleb Creed nose molecules is obviously a gullible fool and REAL fragheads only like stuff that smells like the excrement from extinct vermin mixed with burning tires and carcinogenic distillates that the fascists at IFRA don't want us to enjoy because they're trying to apologize to the plebs who think that they know what REAL fragrances smell like.

Everyone likes Creed, just not always for the same reason. And only some of us can admit to liking it, the rest need to act like they hate it because they think it makes them seem knowledgeable.

My problem isn't with any fragrance, stop being so butthurt, seriously. I just pointed out what notes are natural and which are synthetic. I also pointed out how the IFRA can be dodged around and that in the case of Creed in general most of the price is in the marketing. If you actually paid attention, my true problem is with what certain "niche" houses do and what the main conglomerate corps that bought up previously great houses do. I am so sorry is caring about an industry turning into banality is pretentious, as great as some people might find certain perfumes, no one can deny that quite a few houses relate off each other and many scents these days smell very similar, so naturally, people nowadays tend to explore niche more, and certain niche houses have capitalised on this influx in the market, leading to some very unsavoury and misleading things spieled to the consumer, to convince them to fork out more than what its worth. So eventually, even niche will become boring. If you get perfume just to smell good then good for you, go do that, but everyone is not you. And slamming someone else coming from a different perspective as pretentious is in and of itself, pretentious and narrow minded. Now as for the IFRA, I agree that it has butchered the industry too. But there are still workarounds, but its sad that only a few places can do that. Im sure you wont give a crap, but most perfumers nowadays cannot express creativity anymore, they have a marketing team assess the samples as well as a strict brief to work under. Most perfumes these days are crafted from as little as three weeks to just over three months if you are lucky.

And despite what you say, I don't find a lot of niche to be any good, the ones trying to be too far out there just for the sake of exclusivity and image. I think many vintage designer fragrances are better than quite a number of niche today.

No, what you did was make a lot of insulting insinuations. Let's try this:

What you said:

A less insulting way to say that:
>Aventus uses naturals for the birch, rose, patchouli, and possibly bergamot. The other notes are synthetics, including oakmoss. The batch variations are intentional to draw extra attention to the naturals. I don't personally approve of the price.

The fact is, people will talk more about a popular thing than an unpopular thing. It should not be a surprise that there are long threads discussing batch numbers on one of the most successful frags of all time. You're like those people who can't resist shit talking Andy Tauer, 10 years after the fact, because his first few batches were sold for a song and dance and you just can't fucking let it go and you have to remind everyone that you knew who he was before all the plebs.

This is why I can't stand frag forums any more, it's turned into self-absorbed twats who think that anyone who wears mainstream frags is a hoodwinked consumer slut who is ruining "the industry" by just existing.

Went to the store to test them side by side since I don't own Aventus.

On the first Aventus spray, it immediately reminded me of CDNI. But instead of the rancid smell CDNI project in the first minutes, Aventus has a pleasant, light, bergamot/fruity smell.

After some time they do become alike but not quite. If you were smelling it just passing by, or close to the person you couldn't tell the difference. If you smell more closely, Aventus is more lighter and fruitier, where CDNI smells far heavier and the ambroxan/ambergris is a lot more prominent.

As a conclusion, Aventus is the superior smell because it's more lighter and therefore more pleasant than CDNI. But, would I buy Aventus when you could buy CDNI for as low as 22 € (+shipping)? Nope. You get almost 95% of the Aventus once you power trough the first several minutes.

i dislike their hallmark rounded bottles, aside from cdg 3, which i think is weirdly beautiful, and snowing, which has a lovely grace to it. i also think the incense series is let down by its generic bathroom product appearance; the scents deserve better.

that said, the odeurs, x monocles, x artek, are really well-appointed both in form and in type. simplicity that feels more sophisticated than cheap. they'd look great on a shelf together.

black's bottle is the only one that disappoints me. it's my favorite cdg scent but the bottle feels only half-designed and there's absolutely no nuance to it. would have been better off just using the guerrilla bottles.

Damn this is something special. Closer to cool water than i thought it would be actually but its way better. Upon spraying it will take you to a grassy park in the morning on a sunny but cool day. It's super smooth and as it starts drying down it just turns into the most gorgeous green masculine scent ever. Probably my favourite dry down yet. Already got compliments and good ones too. 100% copping myself a full bottle but only when my life is in a suitable spot so when I smell it in 10 years time it takes me back to that place, cause that's what this fragrance is gonna do. Pretty much what my notes said when testing it. Coolwater with class, Wimbledon in the morning, green grass and a cold shower, the shiver as sun evaporates a bead of sweat.
