Can you eat more calories if you do intermittent fasting? I was watching that Jason Fung video and he was saying not to count calories - which obviously is advice I'm not taking, but I'm still curious. Your TDEE raises? Or you just burn more fat during the fasting period? Has anyone seen this work on them? Like instead of 1400cal are you getting away with 1600 with the same results or something?

It's supposedly bad for your GI tract in the long run but I don't know why sorry
It's also harder to keep up since most people will eventually feel more hungry this way (for some reason)
Probably nothing wrong with it just for a diet if you get all the nutrients and know you won't overeat due to lack of chewing

>>12236012
>I don't really care how miserable I am.
keto

>>12236229
>For how long a period? Any sources/information that you would care to give?
Most people do either 23h a day (one meal a day and then fast) or 16h

>>12236229
>>Only in passing, I've heard people claim that, while on diets that cut out carbs you easily put back on all the lost weight after you start to resume a normal diet. I assume this is a myth spawned by fatties...
You'll might really crave carbs once you stop and that's probably what they're referring to
But if you won't overeat you can maintain without gaining anything back
Either way this applies to every diet, it's much harder to maintain than it is to loose weight, most people just yoyo back to where they were

No worries, it's confusing to talk about. I think also it would be so hard to measure any difference that it's best to just eat ones TDEE like usual, and then if I keep losing while eating at TDEE I know I need to raise it a bit because of the IF (or just miscounting).

My hope is that the IF will fix my slow metabolism, but I'm not counting on it.

My bmi is 20 now and I feel like I lost a lot of muscle even though I've been trying to workout. Like my upper back hurts a bit, almost like I need to strengthen it to keep my shoulders back.

i need to lose around 30-40 pounds before april in thigh and belly area

what are suggestions for daily caloric intake? someone once suggested to do 200 calories a day only for a week, but after being on thinspo for over a year, i've learned that it's a no-no

If you're 5'7 and large frame..120 might actually make you look sick. There is absolutely no way to lose that much in just a few short months. But you can lose 10-15 by exercising and eating less. Try eating up to 900 cals a day for two weeks and see how you feel. I would reccomend going down to 140 and see what that looks like first.

If you have a large frame you will look bigger even thin so compare yourself to photos of other large framed pear shaped girls because you will never achieve a medium or small frame with slimmer hips. 10-12 pounds is about what you'll lose by April if you cut hard but if you are still eating sugar and much starches, that's not even really dieting.

The more you lose, the harder it is to lose what remains so the last pounds are much harder to lose and come off slower than the first ones you lost.

a mealcuck is someone who eats many times throughout the day rather than intermittent fasting. They constantly eat stupid tiny meals, crying while they eat half an apple and two pieces of popcorn, spiking their insulin all throughout the day, forcing their body to use glucose for fuel all the time, cucking their fat stores.

Yeah it usually takes a short while to adjust and then it's very easy. The days is much less stressful since not as hard to stay within your calories, mealtime I eat like a KING, and will all the extra time I have not preparing meals I've taken up some new hobbies and activities. Skipping breakfast and lunch has saved me over an hour each day, which means literally 7-8 hours of extra time per week not prepping, eating or cleaning after meals. I've solved neighborhood mysteries, learned to paint, read some new books, learned the guitar and even saved a kitten from a burning building.

I love IF but it's hard when your schedule is inconsistent. I work night some days (4PM to midnight) and other days I work mornings (6AM to 2PM). On the night shifts I eat a big breakfast and lunch. On the morning shifts I eat a big lunch and dinner. But because it's inconsistent I still get hungry when I fast, when before, with my consistent schedule, I wouldn't even get hungry on my fasting schedule after a week or so.

I'm quitting the night job around May to get ready for school in July, so I'll have the morning job + morning for school, which will be nice and consistent but unfortunately until then it's been very annoying and I keep breaking fasts. I don't necessarily go over my calorie limit but I can't restrict as much as I want to and every time I give in I know I'm falling back into mealcuck habits. I just want to look cute by summer :(

>Eat as much as you need to feel satisfied 5 days of the week and then eat calorie-restricted on two days (500 calories per day for women, 600 calories for men).
If I were to follow this, when would I be eating those 600 calories? Would I have to restrict it to an eating window, or would spreading it out over the whole restricted day still work? I really doubt that it would, which is why I'm confused that this doesn't seem to mention an eating window for this method. How does this work?

Daily caloric restriction is the best way to drop your TDEE, meaning you'll burn less fat, and to feel like shit. Might as well just fast at that point. For example you could fast 5 days and eat normally for 2.
And for the record, fasting doesn't seem slow down your metabolism, that's why it's more effective.

If I'm going on OMAD/IF, how many calories should I be eating during my eating period? I watched a long video by Dr. Fung the other day and it kind of sounded like how long you wait before eating again is actually more important than how much you eat, which seems weird. I've been tracking my calories for almost half a year now, should I just start IF and track at "maintenance"?

I mean, when you eat there's a brief buffer between the time it takes you to eat whatever it is and the point at which you actually feel full from it. If I'm going to be fasting I'm going to need to know how much to eat before I know I'll be satiated.

Well you should feel it, even if you're insulin resistant. If you're going to be eating once per day then it is quite possible to overeat and slow or possibly even reverse your weight loss (but the name of the game is fat loss, and it depends a lot on what bf% you're starting from). So you could guesstimate calories just to make sure you're not eating super much. Certainly you shouldn't be feeling hungry after your meal.

Also, keep in mind the kinds of cases Fung treats, and that he recommends 1-2 week long water/broth fasts for them. If you're not obese you will lose a bit less body fat, and if you're skinny to begin with, you shouldn't be doing any long term fasting.

I have a question, /thinspo/. Since the early 1950's, male fertility has been steadily declining. Such that every few years the definition of infertility needed to change a lower the threshhold so millions of men wouldn't be called infertile. I wonder if the same thing has happened with BMI. I feel like a 16.5 BMI shouldn't be called underweight and is only so because the "average" person is too fucking fat these days. One thing to keep in mind is that fat is really important if you get sick. People that are in the middle-upper region of the normal BMI are much healthier in the sense that if they get sick their body has a lot of resources to use for recovery. Someone underweight will have a much harder time and is more likely to suffer longer, require hospitalization, or die.

Probably not the reason, but it could explain why the normal range is a bit heavier than you'd think.

It's just statistics really
When you analyze large groups of people (which is what BMI was developed for) you have worse health outcomes correlated with BMI beyond certain thresholds
There's no one specific reason why you should go below (or above) certain weights, it just raises your statistical risk of various health problems - when applied to individual people it's more of a loose guideline than something definite, though usually the further you are from the norm the worse your risk is (so for a very underweight/overweight person BMI is more important than for someone who's just a bit below 18)

No, that's OK. The name of the game when it comes to gaining or losing body fat is insulin. You want less of it. Carbs are the only food you can eat to raise it substantially (protein does too, but much much less + you have to eat it anyway, so don't worry). That's pretty much it.

As for why you're eating fat while wanting to burn fat, it's just because there's nothing else to fucking eat. And it helps condition your body to burning fat (producing ketones, i.e ketogenesis) anyway. If you wanted to eat only protein, that would be called a PSMF, and you can do it, but it's honestly kinda dumb, and way harder than just not eating anything.

As an example take bacon and eggs. No carbs in sight, but plenty of fat. Try to think how shit that would taste if you took all the fat out and left just the protein, though.

yeah- 5 days with low-medium intake (depending on gym training) and 2 days either very low or nothing at all.

I do 5 days at 1200-1400 depending if I do weights, HIIT cardio or bikram
2 days with either nothing or 500cal with light cardio or yogo

I heard high intensity cardio lowers testosteron and when it comes to cardio men should only do brisk walking at most.

This is good basic rundown:
>https://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/cardio-vs-hiit-vs-weights-rebooting-our-research/

And this is a good report on comparing HIIT to steady state cardio:

And next level Tabata training for endurance cardio training:

That's good. I hope I get cheekbones. I've been chubby since childhood and through puberty (and also suffered severe body dysmorphia during that time) so losing weight now feels like I'm one of those dino eggs in oatmeal - I don't know what it'll be when it "hatches" but I'm hoping I'll like it.
