Alright that must have been hard to implement, but do you really need to label "friday december 30" the ANNUAL CALENDAR on a watch?

Also, what is the dial on the right indicating days? just counting to 7 over and over? Or is that a reserve power guage?

Good looking watch otherwise.

For more history on the 7A38s, see this:
http://www.fratellowatches.com/tbt-seiko-7a38-chronograph/
The model here is the 7A38-7190.
They're long out of production and you need to resort to eBay and watch forums (use watchrecon to aggregate) if you want to pick up good examples of them.
There's currently a nice example (but with pretty much dead lume) being auctioned on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Seiko-7a38-7190-All-Original-Clean/322378291794?_trksid=p2050601.c100607.m4280&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D37140%26meid%3D7e423276cf704f5196067f257c7fe412%26pid%3D100607%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D162344501756

Similar Seikos? I'm not sure, but Omega Speedmasters are quite similar.

I liked everything apart from the hands on the main dial and the font of the numbers.
And the case.
And the crown.
Fuck, I wanted to like it - the dial layout itself is quite nice and clean.

Are there ANY respectable automatic divers in like below 500 euro range?

I used to have an Orient but it broke down and I'm looking to upgrade. I'd go for a Longines Hydroconquest but it costs 1000+ at an AD which seems a bit steep or even overpriced. The last watch I bought was a Hamilton Khaki which might even have the same movement (sorry I don't know which exactly, I'm not that big of a nerd) and cost 500 at an AD.

only one of those things you said really matters
is paying 5 times the price worth it for a function you will use not more than 5 times?
and the resale value isnt that important because if you buy a 100 watch why would you sell it you paid 100 for it but if you pay 500 for a watch sure its nice if you sell it for 400 dollars but you could have bought a cheaper watch with near same performance you actually need from a watch

You pay high price tags for watches for made in house movements not ETA or Valjoux movements modified slightly for the company.

You can buy them on ebay for very cheap and they look exactly the same as the "genuine" ones on the MVMT site for tons more.
The stinger is that they're of similar quality...which doesn't say too much about MVMT watches.

Well, hang on, you can't say they should be avoided because of the materials. Timex and Casio are ranked higher, but use inferior materials overall, albeit with a smaller price tag. My RW has sapphire glass, is less than half the thickness, and looks great. My casio has a stainless case, mineral crystal (which already scratched) and a cheap leather band. The last question seems to be yes because she likes DW watches, and desu, if she likes it, then get it... which begs the question, why aren't you getting her a DW watch?
>isn't that tumblr-tier trash?
I don't keep up with memes related to watches because, as usual, memes are outcomes of the echo chamber effect. And nobody said that "tumblr-tier trash" is a bad thing - people just do because it has "trash" at the end of it when in reality all it tells us is that it's trash in the eyes of tumblr and tells us nothing about the rest of the world. But I digress.

Anyway, give some pointers regarding the girl (perhaps get clues from the kind of jewelry she wears) and I can offer up some suggestions.

Sticking your watch directly under the shower or tap is enough to defeat lower water resistant watches easily.
I'm pretty sure most people take a shower, but hey, I'm not one to pull out 99% statistics out of my ass without evidence or source.
Also no, being in a hot tub or sauna or whatever with any watch is a terrible idea regardless of whether it's resistant to 100m or 1000m. The heat makes the water gaskets expand and easily defeats the water resistance.

In my experience, a lot of Bulovas mid to higher priced models have incredibly good detailed features. Their bracelets are incredible, the leather straps I am unsure about. Regardless, I have owned a few Bulovas, the Precisionists are great watches with a smooth hi-frequency seconds hand, and an incredible accuracy. Again, IMO the bracelets are second to none in that price range, the satin and brushed finishes are incredibly refined and consistent, and most of their metal bracelets have a comfortable deployant clasp too. Also, the detailing on their dials are phenomenal. They are so dimensional and finely tuned, that I specifically buy Bulovas because they have such a stunning display of aesthetically pleasing features. There is a lot of detail that goes into many of their dials, the finishing on them overall is fantastic, and IMHO can be compared to many higher end Swiss watches. Unless people have actually really studied or reviewed the dials and bracelets on some of Bulovas models, I think they have no right to talk about them.

Anyways, I bought a Parnis recently, the 'Portugese' one as it is referred to, and it comes with a SeaGull ST-25 movement. For around $100usd, it is a pretty stunning watch. I can't say anything bad about Parnis, they do, in my experience, have some of the best watches that are directly better than their competition in Seiko or Citizen for that price range. The ST-25 is generally accurate to within +/- 5 seconds per day, and I heard it is very reliable, so that's nice. But what stunned me, is how beautifully the movement is decorated, it is a pleasure to look at. The power reserve indicator is also very accurate so far, but I will see as it runs down to 0-5 hours. In addition, Parnis uses 316L Marine Grade Stainless Steel, which supposedly Omega uses as I read.

Squale is grossly overpriced. My 150 USD SKX has better lume and 120 click bezel with less play than a Squale, also I do not believe they even have their own service department. They send them out to 3rd party for warranty service work. The ETA movement they use is nothing special, pretty common actually. Not saying it is a bad watch. Love the vintage style and colors and the company does have a rich history making cases for other watchmakers but $850 for their basic model is too much. Tissot aren't crap watches but they're mass produced and contain reliable movements.

Seiko Grand don't deserve to be in the top tier with watches worth millions of dollars because they're overpriced and average.

Victorinox are well made, reliable and not overly priced. Yet they're listed as "Never Buy".

The chart was put together by a retard. Clearly the brackets are wrong. There's Crap watches, Expensive watches and good Value watches. How is Casio better than Raymond Weil? How is Citizen better than SevenFriday? The original U-Boat is shit-tier? I can understand Fossil being at the bottom but Montblanc is listed as one you would never buy? WAT? >How about a new rule? Brands must be accompanies by a short paragraph explaining why they are or are not good. Every other board does it.

Sounds sensible. I have a fairly good understanding of most of the watches in that chart. Clearly it's bait. But the sad thing is that some people will take it as gospel. I've received good advice from this board in the past. I still do my own research very carefully before buying a watch - especially if it's an expensive one.

A watch does its job well if it tells the time accurately. The metals used have a lot of bearing on the appeal of the watch. Personally, I won't buy a gold-plated watch because it will eventually lose its coating. But I would buy a solid gold watch if I could afford the price. But gold looks bad on my skin (I have pale skin)... so Stainless tends to look best. I'm sick of this trend to add Chronometers to watches these days. It's actually hard to find one that doesn't resemble every other watch out there.

There's reasons why you should show caution with some brands. But there's also reasons why we like to wear nicely designed or expensive brand-name watches. Some people only wear one watch. Others, like myself, have different watches for different purposes.

Most of the watches I see in stores today are clones of one another and strike me as ugly. It's hard to find a nice watch and often, when I do, it ends up costing a lot more (thousands more) than I'm comfortable with.

There's plenty of people who like Rolex (for example)... and yet the design is 'dated' and the style has been adopted by every other watchmaker out there. Worst still, the majority of Rolex watches are fakes or counterfeit. I'm personally stumped as to why anyone would wear such a common looking watch... and yet they do.

I don't know what quality of movement they use but they are visually appealing. the "minimalist" look they have is a fresh break from the usual. But the three chrono-dials have no indication of what purpose they serve so it may take a while to get used to it. Overall I like some of their designs, they use a stainless base case and they look striking.

Because of their low retail price, I suspect members here will shit all over it before they agree that it actually looks rather nice. I have no idea of the quality though. My assumption is that they appear to be well constructed with quality materials but they are very inexpensive.

What's the deal with this chart then? Is it lying? Are Casio being misleading, or is this standard across the watch industry and I'm misunderstanding the figures? No, you are not misundertanding the figures. This kind of nomenclature is stardard across the watch industry, but the problem is that it's confusing for the average consumer, who immediately thinks "50m" equals a watch able to submerge that distance below the surface and thus, the watch sustains water damage.

If it works like a traiditional chronograph, it's downright impossible to "get used to it", as you wont be able to precisely determinate where the 60 or 30 minute markers of the subdials should be and a correct reading wont be factible.

Also, they have shitty 5 dollar cases with 5 dollar movements (or ten, at best) and charge a lot more than that.

I don't hate cheap watches, and I actually have some, but in the case of MVMNT, their products are undisputed, worthless shit.

The HALOGRAPH Chrono features a Miyota JS50 Linear Chronograph - Shock Detection, Stopwatch, 30min / 30sec / 24 hour, 2 year battery life (Sony SILVER OXIDE SR621SW or equivalent) Made in Japan. Type of quartz : Tuning fork type quartz crystal, Frequency : 32,768Hz

Since the watch is still a modern reference, the fadding you see is just a the combination of a bad angle and a dark space. It's quite difficult to the lume to wear off in such a new piece.

Well, redbull gives you wings.

Timex are inexpensive, classic looks, and a company that has been around forever. Known to tick LOUDLY by design. Reasonably accurate time keepers. They are the only watch maker with a backlight that works really well. If you like the look, and can get them for under $35, they're decent watches.
