If you want some fur on there for texture/nature association reasons, it should be the collar of a coat.

>and trousers
What do you think people wore in the past? Jeans? Trousers are what people have worn since the dawn of mankind, for reasons that are obvious. Jeans just started to pop up in the last 100ish years. You know, also the time we were really running around in woods anymore. A traditional hunting outfit still consists of trousers and jackets. Tweed probably was even invented for these sort of activities.

>> No.11993071

>>11991288
actually trousers were created after humans started riding horses. The mongols were thought to be barbarians by the Qin because they wore trousers. Since horses translated to military prowess, beskirted civilizations went by the wayside.

I was an eagle scout at sixteen and have been camping PA winters since I was a little kid. I'm 23 now. So I'm going to try to write my own little guide. All of this info is easily Google-able, however this is what I found works for me.

Base:
Synthetic is fine, sometimes preferable if you're going to be wet or can't wash for a long time. Wool is a nicer feel, and a nicer 'look', but I don't know who is going to be looking at your base layer.

Mid:
Typically fleece, the idea of a midlayer is something you can add or remove easily based off of need. It needs to be your most versatile layer.

Insulation Layer:
Down if you can afford it and actually go outdoors, synthetic fill if you're just going for the look. Don't skip the insulation layer. No matter where you live it's going to get FUCKING COLD at night. I don't care if it's summer in New Mexico. Even if you phone says 60 degrees it's going to feel like 20.

Shell:
Shell should match what you're going to do, if you're going to get wet you want a water resistant one, if you're going to be dry but in a flat area or high one with a lot of wind you want a wind shell. Anything that claims to do both well is probably lying. Do NOT wear down without having a rain shell because once that shit is wet it is going to do more harm than good.

Boots:
Wear two pairs of socks. Buy your boots after being on your feet all day. Vibram and Gortex and whatever are a meme. If you're not going to be in the super cold/wet trail runners are preferable. If you're going to only be out for a weekend you can honestly get away with wearing anything, but slippers. You won't really notice your shoes mattering until like 30 miles or so. Your socks NEED to be dry. When they start getting wet from sweat, change them.

If you're not actually trying to go outdoors and just want to look good/like you do, then just go on Backcountry.com and look at their pictures of people who dress up and go on short walks to take pictures.
