The material is holding up. Mine are two years old and received a fair during the cold seasons. The soles do turn nasty black and I wouldn't recommend crepe soles in retrospect, but at 150usd, that's absolutely okay. I still like the sleek silhouette a lot. All in all, I'd rather go for malis than for docs.

The perfect low tier boot in my book would be the desert Mali on a vibram or wedge sole at 180ish.

The chestnut ones are good with chinos or whatever, pretty timeless colour. I will probably be getting a black pair of them or some other boots because my black dress shoes are pretty beat. I would heavilly advise going in and trying them on though, at first I tried the classic version and it didnt feel right, but after going to the turnout (more rounded toe) it felt great.

Probably light-mid wool sock, nothing too heavy. As for durability I have only had mine for a little bit and wear them in a casual office environment so its hard for me to say. Having said that they are very popular in Australia and have a reputation for lasting an extremely long time (provided you take care of them). the AF1 feels like a normal Af, it has a liner on the inside so you dont feel the zipper against your foot at all.
As for the sock dart.. holy shit it took me a couple of days to get use to it. because the upper is legit like a spandex sock. it feels like your shoe is gonna come off with every step. takes time to get use to. but other than that, its a pretty damn good shoe.
