>> No.11858156

Girls lose their periods if they're too underweight (which causes a lot of problems in itself) and since women tend to have a lower bone density in the first place, being underweight makes osteoporosis (brittle bones) a lot more common and severe.

I have gotten used to eating under 1200 calories since I've been dieting on and off for a few years and I tend to feel gross when I eat over 1700 since I know that will make me gain weight. Once you get into the mindset, it's not so difficult. I don't really binge or crave high calorie foods anymore either since I completely cut them out when I started restricting this time.

>>11858140
Honestly, unsweetened almond milk is the best thing. But I would pick fat free cow's milk over soy milk just because of taste if I still drank either of those.

>>11858150
I like almonds and walnuts. Peanuts sometimes trigger cravings for people since a lot of junk food uses peanut butter as an ingredient, but the pistachios should be fine.

>> No.11858157

>>11858150
i eat salted when i eat low carb because my body retains less water and i can afford it. if you eat low carb (<50 ideally but <70-80 can pass) you wont retain enough water from the salt to matter - as long as you're staying well-hydrated to dilute it

i always recommend roasted salted nuts onl because you'll be more satisfied by fewer of them because of the taste

being thin is a status symbol. being 'fit' is respectable and impressive, and being 'slim' is necessary to be in the highest social class, but being model-thin will ALWAYS make your life better (unless you're a professional athlete).

People will take you more seriously as an artist.
People will listen to you speak about issues.
People will respect what you have to say.
People will automatically give privilege to you because of the way you look.

You're always better than the people who didn't work as hard as you - but you have to make it seem effortless.

I've been dieting in one way or another since I was 11. My mother's whole family is incredibly overweight (they do have thyroid problems, but that only accounts for ~30 pounds) and some of my father's siblings are overweight as well. My father, who is the only successful person on either side, is pretty thin and so I guess I wanted to emulate him rather than the other people I had for role models. He's always been really into diet and exercise stuff so when I said I was interested, he bought a treadmill and elliptical for the basement and whatever weird low calorie foods I wanted.

Since I've gone from being an overweight child to a thin-ish adult, I've become much more confident and successful, so I associate restricting my diet with self-control and discipline in other areas of my life. People also treat me better and my health has improved, so I see no reason to stop.

I'm around 160 now which is "healthy" for a girl my height (5'10") but frankly this height is a total waste if I'm not gonna go to elegant model-tier weight. Thin is just gorgeous. My current goal is 130 but we'll see how I feel at that.

>not reading the FAQ
There are 11 weeks left in 2016, so you would have to lose about 3 pounds per week to get to 150 by New Year's. It would be unhealthy to try and restrict that heavily, but you can probably get to 160 or so without too much trouble.

Read the FAQ and use the calculators to figure out your TDEE. You need to eat 1000 fewer calories than that per day to get to 160 by 2017. I would do the calculations for you, but I don't know how old you are or how much you exercise so my numbers would be inaccurate. Once you know how many calories to eat, download either Lose It or My Fitness Pal and start tracking every calorie you eat.

We have a list of foods in the OP that are low calorie and generally healthy, and if you need any help with specific concerns, you can just post here. There's always a thread up.

How do I get more protein in my diet?
I know I'm only eating about 1/3 of my daily protein (according to MFP), but I find it difficult to get anymore. I don't eat meat or many animal products but I try to have beans or nuts every day if I can. Is my best bet a supplement or powder? I don't have a lot of money since I'm in college

>> No.11858877

I had this same problem, anon. Are you not eating animal products for moral reasons or just because you don't like the taste? Personally, I don't eat a lot of meat because I don't like it that much (unless prepared in an unhealthy way, so then I don't eat it) and I'm lactose intolerant. HOWEVER, I can have greek yogurt. I love the light and fit greek yogurt, and it really helps me hit my protein needs. 80 calories and 12g protein. It doesn't fuck with my lactose intolerance.

Yeah, dairy doesn't do well with my skin either, but a lot of my lactose intolerant friends are so fine with greek yogurt.

Lately I've been eating pic related with cashew milk in the morning. 6 g of protein for 117 calories for the cereal. Or I have oat revolution steel cut oats (130 calories and 5g protein).

You should honestly just look into vegan protein bars. I wouldn't recommend vegan protein shakes because those all fucked up my stomach and they don't mix well unless you're using a blender. Also expensive.

>> No.11858928

>>11858873
Are you sure you are eating a balanced enough diet? There is not much reason to not be getting enough protein as a vegan unless you are eating at a large deficit. Oatmeal, soy, lentils, etc. And for lunch you can throw some greens and fruit into a blender and get protein there too. :) I would recommend researching vegan protein and incorporating more of that into your diet. You shouldn't need to supplement anything but b12 if you are eating balanced enough.

mushrooms. mushrooms all the way. portobello and shiitake are good to start with. portobello works well in pasta dishes, or just fried up in steaks. shiitake can be used in stir-fries or Asian soups.

beans are also a good source of protein, and easy to work into lots of dishes. nuts have fairly high protein content and make a good snack.

there's also powders available that have a lot of protein, but I would encourage you and others to cook rather than to rely on processed foods. that being said, I have a soylent subscription and I like it a lot.

good luck with your diet, eating well takes practice.

Well, I did it again. I was getting my hair cut yesterday and they were watching CNN and the newscasters were being super hard on Trump and then I looked on RCP and saw his numbers are even more down.

On the way out I grabbed a chocolate mint from a dish they had and that sent me spiraling. I stopped at Five Guys and got three Bacon Cheeseburgers, two orders of fries, two cheese dogs, and a large drink - only leaving after I ran out of money (I didn't order it all at once, I kept just going back up for more). Then I drove home and put two pizzas in the oven, and made an entire box of De Cecco Rigatoni with some bottled sauce. I ate all that, then went in the pantry and ate two boxes of cookies, two bags of pretzels, an entire bag of macadamia nuts.

This morning I feel like I've regained control but it's not going good.

The basics of the habit loop is a signal, the routine (the excesive eating), the reward.

There is a book by Charles Duhigg called the power of habit, which I found quite interesting.
But even knowing about your habits doesn't necessarily makes it easy to change them.
I believe doing some basic research should give you an inkling to what you might face :)
Anyway good luck

130 at your height is definitely thin, but isn't underweight. Anything between 18 and 19 bmi is ideal, since you look thin, but not scary and you don't have health issues from being too underweight. For me, 10 pounds is a lot as far as looks go, but I'm only 5'5" so it might not be a big deal for you. It should be noticeable in your face if nothing else.
