bottom tier put cheap movements into watches they think look good, or that are imitations of something iconic, all style, no substance, fashion brands, not watch brands, no heritage, and completely overpriced.

next tier up:
better internals, but still a huge mark up, generally watchmaking brands that have a recognizable name because they have real history, but were bought up and rolled into a conglomerate sometime after the invention of the cheap quartz watch destroyed their business. production quality better than shit tier, generic internals, you're buying because of an advertisement that convinces you you're wearing history or luxury or both.

middle tier:
value for money, watchmakers with history who largely still produce their own internals, not pretending to be something they aren't and the price reflects as much. would argue with chris ward being here, but developing an in house movement moves them up.

fossil has always been a fashion watch brand; created in the 90s, savvy advertising and popular design got them a foothold. they compete on looks and selling a watch for $150 that citizen, for the sake of argument, sells with a real movement and quality materials/machining) for $600. they literally built the brand by polishing shit and convincing retards to buy it.

there are literally factories that design and produce watches for a dozen "fashion" brands. fossil is one of those producers.

Why do you people still insist in trying to categorize a whole universe of watches by ranking (wrongly, of all matters) the brands??
A great watch can come from a lesser brand, as a great brand can make a total dog.

You can only compare specific watches/ familys against each other.

option 1: vintage watches. from the 20s through the 60s. rarely will you see a watch larger than 36mm.
option 2: dress watches. often much smaller than sport watches.
option 3: a classic tank. may or may not fall into #2. classic tanks are square or rectangular watches that may be as small as 20-22mm.
option 4: watches made for the japanese domestic market (smaller people, smaller watches)

pic related is option 4. Diameter: 33.5 mm (without the crown), Thickness: 5.3 mm (!!!), quartz (no one does quartz better than seiko). this is what i'd wear if i were in your position. or a classic tank.

if you go vintage, a lot of times you'll find the smaller watches are less expensive, because over the past 30 years nuance has become a rare quality.

junghans makes a 34mm max bill if the 38mm is too large. some are labeled as "ladies", but the classic colors are not.

i'm quite fond of pic related at 38mm. a vintage version is no larger than 36, but would require effort to track down.

Being said that, Victorinox watches are assembled in china. Yes, Victorinox is a swiss brand, but specialized in cutlery and pocket knives, they never made watches until recently after the quartz tsunami, then they, like everybody else, jumped into selling cheap chinese mechanical movements and quartz watches but with a "swiss" legacy behind.

t. have normie flatmates, friends and coworkers who keep complimenting my automatic jap watches just because of the cool and colourful nylon straps.

more like since James Bond has worn some Diver with a Nato Strap attached to it and the normies all saw that, young'un.

pretty nice. that's a great watch. it's better than what most people post here by Casio. it seems what you have is the WV-59DE-1AVEF model.
it has a radio signal receiver so it's pretty much never off time-wise and changes summer and winter time by itself as well. it's cool. it could have more WR though. this one has 5 bar.
