Got accepted into Chicago but fuck if I can afford it. I made 4k last year and am independent. My grades weren't even that good, I just connected with the guy in charge of the department I'm interested in via email and chatted with him a bit then visited the campus to meet him.

You need to stand out in other ways. I agree with the last part but I find that attractive people generally conform to other people's expectations of them (for example being amiable) more so than unattractive people.

It really sucks squandering a university with a 60-40 female-male gender ratio by picking an engineering major. My biggest regret is not rushing a frat freshman year.

Have you noticed that they're putting non engineering classes in the engineering buildings? Sometimes I'll randomly see classes that are literally 30 chicks in the VEC.
