Hey /fa/, I'm trying to let my hair grow for the first time but I don't know much about proper care for it as I let it grow.

Any men with long hair who can share some tips about how to care for it and products that I should use?

Your hair isn't special because you're a man. Just ask women or a hairdresser.

You just have to identify what kind of hair you have and then buy shampoo/hair pack for that kind of hair.

And go to the hairdresser very often (With very often I mean like every 2/3 months)

If you let it grow for a year and don't go to a hairdresser/salon it will look awful

This. I let mine get nappy and it really wasn't as cool as I thought it looked. Slimmed her down a bit and only tip I have is to not shampoo every time you shower, shit gets frizzy yo. Here's me at peak birdsnest form

Get it trimmed properly first by a proper stylist, otherwise they'll probably grow out with split ends assuming your last haircut was a generic one with a bunch of buzzers involved.

Let them know you plan on growing it out.

Thanks, I've trimmed twice in the past six months and so far so good. I was recommended that I should not brush my hair as often and use hair masks which I'll try to do to see if it stops the breakage.

>falling for the hairdresser meme
>not realising they just want your money

Dont do this OP. The difference is usually extremely minimal, aside from the fact that it will take much longer to get to your desired length.

If your hair looks fine there really is no need to cut it more than twice a year, especially if you are trying to grow it out.

Avoiding washing it for as long as possible, preferably 1 time every 3-4 days.

Also I recommend using a variety of different shampoos and conditioner and mixing it up every now and then.
Make sure one of your conditioners gives a deep condition and I would use that 1 time every 2/3 washes.

Obvious things like avoiding extreme heat, hair dye, etc.

Get a wide tooth comb and get rid of tangles when your hair is wet
