At night, or on weekends, I wear either Tom Ford Oud Wood or Bleu de Chanel, depending on the weather and where I'm going. Ï almost literally can't smell Dior Sauvage. I spray, I get a very faint hint of something that might be citrusy, and a very faint hint of generic skincare-brand deodorant perfume

I tried googling and came across a thread on reddit where a guy said that ambroxan causes extreme olfactory fatigue for some people. That makes a lot of sense to me, because I've noticed that if I smell my Sauvage cap, it actually changes my perception of my BdC cap

Anyone have similar experiences?

Good, musky, spicy, citrusy, greenish and slightly floral and tobacco fuck yeah, my kind of fragrance.

>Terre Eau Trés Fraiche
>orange, citruses and water notes; middle note is geranium; base notes are woody notes, patchouli and cedar.
This one seems direct to the point, masculine enough.

>L'eau d'Hiver
>White heliotrope, citrusy notes, interlaces with notes of water, with balmy powder of iris and a drop of honey.
I have my doubts on this, but only could tell if I get to smell a sample on me, hope it would not be kinda fem.

>Virgin Island Water.
>It opens with a citrusy cocktail of white bergamot, Jamaican lime, Sicilian mandarin. The citruses are accompanied by a note of copra, the white inner flesh of the coconut. The heart includes intensive Indian jasmine and sweet hibiscus, exotic ylang-ylang and cold, spicy ginger. The base of the composition includes sugar cane, musk and white rum.

Layering fragrances is fine as long as you select compatible perfumes. You can't just go combining whatever you own, and choosing simpler fragrances are better. The place to start is with Colognes and vetivers.

In my collection I have three good layering vetivers. Guerlain Vetiver, which has a nice dose of jasmine and citrus; Guerlain Vetiver Extreme, which is more dry and herbal; and Etro Vetiver, which is completely dark and earthy, dosed with tobacco. I also have a bottle of generic vetiveryl acetate / Molecule 03, which is a super dry, single note vetiver. I mix these Vetivers with various Eaux de Cologne to arrive at a mix of woody and fresh. I wouldn't layer with my more expensive and nuanced Colognes or my fancy Vetivers, but it is a fun way to dress up cheaper or simpler ones. Some of my favorite combinations are:
GV + Mugler Cologne
GVE + Bond Eau de New York
EV + Dior Homme Cologne
M03 + Terre d'Hermes ETF

There are other, non-citrus combinations that I use sometimes. Bond Eau de New York combines nicely with Bond Fire Island as both fragrances' white florals intermingle. Aventus with La Yuqawam (more or less Tuscaventus) is a quality combination - darkly fruity and manly.

Special mention for the Molecule fragrances. All three can be leveraged as a sort of perfume MSG. In particular, Molecule 02 / Ambroxan brightens up more or less anything you throw at it. I like all three Molecule fragrances with Tres Nuit.

Also, I'm not sure if this article is a repost but Jean Claude Ellena acknowledges layering fragrances as a valid way to enjoy perfume:

Blind bought pic related and it arrived yesterday. First wear today and I'm really enjoying this. I've received compliments from three people so far and it's only lunchtime.

The kumquat top note is very natural smelling, as is the underlying cedar. No harsh Iso E Super here. The overall feel is an upscale, EdP concentration, unisex version of Lalique White. Very pleased!

Well with autumn and winter coming up, you have plenty of opportunity to enjoy regular EN. More than I get living in the desert.

That "inkiness" is a combination of vetiver plus cypress. If you don't know what cypress smells like, it's in the neighborhood of fir and juniper, sort of like a pine without the sharpness. As long as you enjoy vetiver, you have an idea of what you're in for and should be happy. If you find that you enjoy EN then just imagine the main accord brightened up using dry citrus and calone. That's Sport.

I thought it was nothing special at first but it's now one of my staples. Perfect for cool weather. It opens with dark green slightly wet and bitter leaf, like smelling your fingers after crushing leaves between them. The moistness of the smell is slightly boozy, not thick but tart like wine. When it starts to settle, it smells very mature, calm and cozy, with the image of a well-worn and familiar coat, the whiff you get of it as you put it on. It retains that greenness into the drydown too, and I like it because it doesn't use the more common woodchip base.

Muelhens - 4711; $30+; Lemon, Bergamot, Orange Oil, Basil, Cedar
Perry Ellis - 360 Red: $15-$25+; Lime, Cinnamon, Bergamot, Orange/Mandarin Orange, Lavendar

Are some examples. Note, those aren't specific for fall, they're just some apart of a giant list I made.

For Hotter weathers/Summer and Spring stick to citruses and aquatics. There are exceptions, but just ignore that for now. So for example in the Spring/Summer you might want to wear Insurrection Pure 2 and Nautica Voyage. But in the Winter you might wear Boss Bottled and Individuel (Mont Blanc)

For Cooler weathers/Fall and Winter (Sometimes Spring) stick to heavier scents like Musks, Leathers, Tobaccos, Spices, etc. Again, there are absolutely exceptions, but that's the general stuff.

If I were you, I would probably just get Nautica Voyage, Insurrection Pure 2, and Individuel. Maybe something like 360 Red and/or Cool Water. But there's a ton other scents out there.

How long a bottle will last is variable. Let's just say for sake of discrepancy you get 7 sprays per ML (You can get more, usually. But we'll low ball it). That's 700 sprays, If every single day you wore 3 sprays it would last you over 7.6 months.

For your question of how important is season for scent? Well, fairly. Citruses and Aquatics tend to just be nothing in cold weathers. And heavier scents will just make you sick.

Altough it's a beginners list it goes into detail about notes, making different recs depending on what notes you might like. But as a beginner, you probably won't recognize if a perfume has patchouli or sandalwood to direct yourself in a certain direction. So take it as a list to start testing and see what you like.

Like the other anon said, seasons dictate how a perfume performs, namely the temperature. Basically you want something fresh for hot weather, for low temps you want heavier, fuller sometimes sweet frags. But in the end you can use anything you want when you know what you're doing.
