Most people here are into fashion from a runway point-of-view, rather than a "I want to just look good in clothes" point-of-view, such as /r/mfa.

That's why >>11286646 isn't going down well (safe, traditional, boring) even though it accentuates his form and makes him seem presentable; yet >>11286665 will likely find more praise, as it's totally unconventional although still remaining aesthetically pleasing. He's put much more thought into this, sought out the right pieces in the exact shades of blue, etc. whereas Mustard-Trousers dude only had to follow a 'How to dress well' guide for men.

That's also why /fa/ is currently going out of their way to dress intentionally bad - because it's in. the key word is MORE. It's MORE casual than a black trench coat for example, taking the other side of the spectrum.
Regardless, if you're rocking a tee underneath and jeans, just go for a bomber/pilot/military style, maybe even a duffel coat.
speaking of jeans your fit pic is very limited to the upper half of your body and I'm wondering what shoes you're wearing, pretty crucial for the whole picture.
The characteristics you use may mean it's slightly less formal than possible, but you could still wear a fucking suit under this coat and look formal.

I was wearing navy chinos and brown suede chukka boots.

I wanted a coat that could be worn with more casual clothes as well as when wearing suits for when I finish uni. I don't want to look too casual (jeans and t-shirt) nor do I want to go full on business-core (extremely formal suits here are pretty much limited to lawyers and bankers) but find a happy medium ground. I know I still have a lot more to learn when it comes to finding that balance though.
