I have been on campus at KGU a number of times back when I had friends there. It's like the equivalent Temple program in Tokyo - you'll be surrounded by weeaboos, the classes are going to be OK but not great, there'll be a lot of people trying to get Japanese wives (and succeeding, I know some guys who went there who are now marrying those girls), etc. Some of the professors there are fun to talk to (see if the prof. obsessed with studying Soka Gakkai is still there, she's AWESOME), but others are a bit weird. The main international student building is designed like a big fish tank where Japanese girls prey on stupid weeaboos who don't realize they're being preyed upon - one of my dumbass friends ended up "dating" a hooker this way.

The Kansai region in general is a lot more laid back in a way, but as a result it lacks the cutting edge fashion that some people associate with Japan. Tokyo is a lot more fun in terms of immediate gratification and weird bullshit. Both have their merits, but I found Kansai to be a bit underwhelming at times.

With that said, you might want to consider the Temple program more, if it exists - Tokyo > Hirakata for a lot of reasons, primary of which being the ability to go see weird shit. My recollection of Hirakata is that it was almost uncomfortably small.

Both campuses are reasonably close to me, and both are good choices. GMU has the benefit of being more well-known and better-ranked. The Korean scene in Fairfax is also rad, so if you're into that you're gonna have a good time.

Bay Area bro here. I wanted to go to Stanford for a girl. I was/am attending a community college in the east bay. Stanford's transfer rate is ~1%, so I knew if I had a shot, it was going to be through leveraging connections and getting the right people on my side.

Long story short, I ended up contacting Piero Scaruffi (/Mu/'s lord and savior), meeting up with him, starting a nonprofit with him for the purpose of hosting educational events around the area. We held a 3 day art and science festival on Stanford's campus a few months ago, and now I'm waiting to hear back from them re: my admission/rejection.

I'm a CS Major, so I can speak to experience here.

Our programs'll fucking kill you if you're not naturally good at engineering/can't manage time well. However, in terms of what it can offer, people from here generally get good/great opportunities in terms of working with small/medium/large companies. Startups are big in LA, and getting larger as a cheaper place to work than the Bay Area. Your degree will be worth something.

I don't know Tufts, but if you wanna work on the East Coast it might be a better fit. Depends on the type of engineering you're doing as well. I've also never heard it mentioned in the same breath as engineering, usually it's near PoliSci. I also don't know your financial situation, but I'd never discount a full ride.

Ultimately, it all depends what engineering you are/where you wanna work/what you want to do. The alumni network here is really good as well, and can help you out a lot in terms of work. Decision is yours though.

Tons of people are out there sitting on their asses with degrees from Harvard, etc who just use that as their life excuse not to accomplish anything greater. There are people who do not have college degrees who will become better engineers than you or I.
