I'm more of a Patagonia fan myself but I got north face jackets too. And I don't wear that stuff to be fashionable I'm just really outdoorsy and live in a very outdoors oriented city.

rei is normcore because... nobody would actually shop there for fashion. It's about utility and somewhat also cost-effectiveness and the look of the garments reflect that. and then people end up wearing it around town because they don't really care about fashion.

northface is normcore because
1) a lot of people wear it
2) it's ugly
3) it's a recognisable brand for all the wrong reasons... comfortable, affordable (though not quite cheap); ugly, obnoxious branding; a very popular kind of minor status symbol, like a crappy iphone

basically it's normcore because it's ugly and lots of people wear it. i think this is why camo is so normcore. if you just wear it because functionality and your priority isn't fashion, i guess it isn't normcore, but if you wear it for fashion and you live in NYC / philadelphia / frisco, you're not doing a lot of hiking anyway so it's probably normcore

tl;dr sounds like you're not ironic enough for it to be normcore; i wouldn't worry about it if i was you

True. The huge ass combat boots do make it sort of tumblr-core. Which in the right social group could make you cool. But in a general setting you just look unapproachable. More "fashionable" boots would improve the whole outfit.

I thought this guy was channeling some slight lunar-core. Probably browses /fa/ and /r/teenFA or wherever they got this album from. Some of the fits were OK. Others made me laugh.


All in all, the closer to "normal" you dress, the better you'll look to everyone with extreme tastes. Someone at the opposite end of the spectrum doesn't necessarily dress terribly, they just have a different aesthetic that you may not understand. It's pure self-expression. Fashion is an art form at times.
