Nothing to do with the price of the watch or the reason for buying it but, the Omega NATO is actually incredible. Nothing like the cheap nylon straps. The weave is really nice. It feels very expensive like velvet or silk. I handled one in a boutique and was blown away by it. It's hard to explain unless you've touched it and tried it on. Also, it comes with a bracelet as well.

I have a couple of fake Dw's too, one of them lost the glass and the other one has a tiny black speck of dust inside the case. So yeah, the build quality sucks. Most oscillat masses detach from the coupling of the winding mechanism one way or another when the watch is fully wind, in order to prevent over-winding, however there are some cheap movements in wich this doesn't happen so I would appreciate the model and name of your watch.

BUT, if the winding mass is getting stuck and doesn't move, then there is clearly a problem with the machine and it is in need of proper service, and maybe repair, as soon as posible.

I would say that white dial watches are more classic. If you look at old dressy watches the vast majority have light dials and only a few come in black. And especially since it's apparently supposed to resemble a railroad watch, those almost never came in black.

But that aside also I'm not a fan of that flowery thing on the second hand or the afterthought 4:30 date window which isn't even lined up with the day window or the tritium tubes which don't fit the watch at all but are just in there because that's Ball's gimmick. It looks alright though, I guess.

white was standard because of the ceramic dials were white.

black was reserved for military watch dials, be they pocket or otherwise because of heightened visibility.

The only vintage watches you'll find that are ceramic and NOT white are painted ladies models.
Metal dials were obviously not white.

I despise any watch that has the words embedded on it face explaining its features like:

Water Resistant, ALARM, CHRONOGRAPH... the watch is essentially saying the operator of this watch is a helmet wearing retard and if it wasn't for these explanations on the face of the watch instead of in the manual he/she probably would never figure out these feature exist on this watch.

I understand how a complicated G-shock might need it, but a simple watch.. with all this writing on it... fuck that noise. Tacky and ugly.

Citizen eco drive is fine, they're pretty good I guess

Seiko 5 movements are pretty good except that the 7S movements have a fatal flaw where the hairspring shits itself when it gets hit with a shock. Recent ones are sort of fixed but not completely.

Orient automatics are fine I guess, they're based on old Seiko movements so they're sort of cousins to the current Seiko 5 movements. The ones with that second pusher thing for the date are really stupid in my opinion and they're prone to problems also.
