Anyone try painting their jacket? It seems like it could work in punk-inspired fits.

Also, DIY general.

I had friends in high school who painted their jackets with acryllic paint
they were roofie-popping dipshits if they could do it then it shouldn't be too hard to figure out

Also, requesting the designer that painted simple words like "Money" and "Help" on heavy canvas coats in big black letters.

I'm going to go even edgier senpai.

Here, I present to you the jacket that I've owned since the start of my edgy teen years.. It's basically a compilation of all the bands that I've listened to over the years, each represented by a hand drawn logo.

There used to be edgy patches and edgy buttons on it, but I've decided to hide those in a multitude of spots and hangouts that hold meaning to me. Kinda miss my Type-O Negative patch though.

When it first dropped I had this oddly intense emotional response. Then on subsequent listens I had to really assess whether or not I liked it because of my attachment to the band as a whole or because of the quality of the album itself.

Finally I decided that it's not their best album by a long shot, but that it has some great songs on there, that do have their place in some moments of my life. 'Pups to Dust' immediately springs to mind as a song that resonated well.

The songs that they demoed on festivals in the two years before the album released are also pretty fucking great. Too bad 'Poison the Well' wasn't on this album, would've loved to hear a studio version.

I guess I'm just glad that they're still producing and that I can dig their new stylistic direction.

painting on jackets is only as effay as the person doing the painting. shitty ideas, edgy themes, making the design too clean are all killers.

sadly, the comme des garsons one posted above has the right idea stylistically, minus their brand name.

was in joshua tree and saw someone selling painted milsurp parkas/jackets. it was a good look, but again, i thought the themes were lame; it looked super coachella-core, indian/hindu/mystic themes and symbolism, hipster "X"s and shit. will prob sell well to girls 14-34, but kinda lame overall.

my point: white paint on jackets is pretty rad if you know what you're doing. i think OP's image is kinda lame, not because of the humour, but because of the tight/clean aesthetic. the same design with plain/simple brushed letters would make it look more spontaneous and less tryhard.

be spontaneous and carefree or it looks totally lame.

By using actual sewing pins, or safety pins or even sewing needles.

Please, do me a favour, look up a simple sewing tutorial on YouTube and learn to sew a litte before you do this project. Just practice on the t-shirt scraps and sew them together.

Then, do this project properly, it does not have to be immaculate, far from it even, a bit messy would look good for this type of print.

Thing is, I like your idea, I like your print, I like it even more on a nice crew. Are you going to sew it on the back, cause the size lends itself well for a back print.

I disagree, clean hand-drawn designs show a bit of care and thought for both the garment and the things you stand for or care about. Being passionate about things isn't tryhard. Neither is carefully personalizing a jacket, that will last a long while, in a way that inspires personal pride.
Although themes such as personal freedom do connect better to some messiness

Thematically, I do agree with you though, that not any stupid theme works. Especially not something as broad as a Hindu deity.

Not the guy you replied to, but DIY does have a certain ring(aesthetic & connotation) to it. If something does not look like its DIY, but it appears in a DIY thread, it would seem like it does not have the same aesthetic, this could be seen as criticism.

Furthermore, DIY is a very easy way to make a claim to authenticity, just look at all the muslims that have been hand-copying their Islams over the last few centuries. When you call it's "DIY-ness" into question, you're invalidating the claim to authenticity.

Can you guess where authenticity plays a very important role? subcultures, some more than others.

don't have any, wish I had.

All I remember about the designer is that he mainly painted olive drab, white and black coats. The paints he used were either white or black. He described the words he painted on his coats as everyday phrases about major issues and worries, things he often overheard on the streets.

Anyone got an idea?
