I tried going no-poo for 3 days and my hair look like complete shit. Oily garbage. I don't belive in no-poo. Am I wrong?

>> No.10584433

It will take a while for your hair to acclimate to not having to produce so much oil. With you typical shampoo, you're stripping all of the oils from your scalp. As a result, your body overproduces oils to compensate.

You are currently still producing that volume of oil without stripping any of it away with shampoo. Over time, maybe 3 weeks to a month, your hair will cut back oil production. Then you will start reaping the benefits of nopoo.

And how am I supposed to function through those 3 weeks? I mean I'm not sitting in my house or wearing a hat for almost a month.

Scrub your scalp with the pads of your fingers when you shower, take more showers during the day to get rid of oil.

It's not easy, I did it so long ago I can barely remember how I personally did it. My hair is by no means perfect, but it is much better than before.

Is it actually a good idea to do No Poo? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

Advantages
>hair less dry

that's because no-poo was invented by curly-haired afro-tumblrettes who wanted to subvert the hair-care industry

there's nothing wrong with shampoo. Most cheap shit shampoos however have fucked up shit like sulfates or whatever that dry your scalp the fuck up.

So just spend more on shampoo. you fucking hippies

Any good recommendation for expensive shampoo?

>> No.10586936

No poo only works on really dry hair or on african-american or very thick brown hair (maybe on some asian hair)

If you're white you probably need to wash hair more often.

After accutane I can go two to three days without washing hair and it's great, but before it would get oily really fast.

>> No.10586963

Nopoo didn't do much for my thin long hair but I invested in a boar bristle brush which transformed my hair from a dry mess to smooth and manageable. It's expensive but it distributes the oil towards the ends, I also have no problems anymore brushing them when they're wet.
Also try googling natural dry shampoo. Thanks to corn starch and cinnamon (I have reddish hair) I only have to wash my hair twice a week and it gives it a bit more volume.
I also use less shampoo in general, wash it with my head held down and I rub the scalp thoroughly during it.

Honestly how do you feel when you put corn starch and cinnamon in your hair?

>> No.10587033

>>10586997
I've mixed it in a salt shaker, 90% corn starch and 5% cinnamon. I rub a tiny bit between my hands and put it in my hair hanging down.
Those "volume booster" powders and the dry shampoo from Lush is basically just corn starch as well. There's more shit in those dry shampoos you get out of a spray can.

10% cinnamon of course. Smells nice too

No poo is literally a shitty meme that kids partake in to be 'different.' "OH U STILL USE SHAMPOO WEW PLEB I JUST USE WATER."

>> No.10587202

I don't poo but I shower twice a day (once in the morning and once after the gym). I make sure to scrub my scalp and everything.

>> No.10587234

I think the "no poo" think is only meant to be used by people with straight/curly hair or African American hair.

I've been on this "treatment" for the last two months and I couldn't be happier. Things that got better for me:

-My hair now is less frizzy
-I can style my hair more easily now
-I didn't even know this was possible but my hair have obtained a little bit of his natural color back, my hair was as dark as the fucking night, now it looks like dark brown and it's amazing

Also my hair doesn't smell bad at all, I shower everyday and my hair smells like nothing (I miss the smell that shampoo gave to my hair, though). All this people saying they have friends which hair stinks must hang out with dirty people, I guess.

>> No.10587245

How can anyone who cares about cleanliness take up on this no-shampooing business?

Water doesn't sanitize. Few days I can understand, but as a long-term thing? What the fuck?

That doesn't mean it isn't dirty - which it is - which is what happens when you don't clean it - which water doesn't.

>> No.10587253

it takes time, havent used poo in at least 2 years and get nothing but compliments on my hair. no smell or grease (unless i go without washing for 2-3 days like people who use it anyway)

if it doesnt smell, look, or feel dirty then how is it dirty? & since water doesn't clean your hair please tell me exactly how shampoo cleans your hair besides removing excess oils?

If you put your hands into mud that pigs just came out of and rinsed it off with water, are your hands actually clean or is the mud just visibly gone? Ever heard of soap?

Now if you go out and a bunch of particles of who-knows-what get in your hair, is water going to actually clean it or would you not need the equivalent of soap for hair, which happens to be - you guessed it - shampoo? Yeah, it strips oils. It's a detergent. That comes with the territory of cleaning - which water alone doesn't do. Want to minimize the abrasiveness? Get a sulfate free one. But to call me delusional while thinking water alone cleans your hair is lolworthy.

Well, I'm not seeing anything dirty in my hair, it doesn't smell, cero dandruff, the roots of my hair look healthy, like, if this is what having dirty hair looks like then I suppose I'm a dirty man.

The solution to the pool water is to wet your hair first with normal water, bun it (if you have long hair), and then put on a swim cap.
I like to put a little extra leave in conditioner in my hair before swimming with this method. Sometimes a diluted coconut/olive oil mixture too, if it seems really harsh.

>> No.10588261

>>10587603
Yeah I read that about the wet hair too but I use it anytime.
The reasoning against it is that it can cause breakage in wet hair, but blow drying my hair and then untangling (or using a broad comb) is painful and probably does more harm. I don't have a lot of hair stuck in it so it's probably no big deal.

Fucking plebs. Use baking soda as your "poo" when going "no-poo". Then use some vinegar or normal conditioner if you want to keep on top of things. It's not "just water" if you're doing it the right way, stupid cunts

Use it as "poo" once a week only, not as often as you would real shampoo. Leave your conditioner in for a good ten minutes before rinsing. Consider using coconut oil every now and then for extra fertility.

Hair is dead. There's not really anything there for bacteria to feed on unless you're just a gross unclean person. Perhaps you didn't know this, but shampoo is meant for the scalp and not the hair. Massaging your scalp well with water works great since after a while of no poo your natural oils balance back out.

Conditioner is what goes in the hair and most people who no poo do condition regularly. It's disturbing to see so many people who are willing to talk shit about something they know nothing about.
