Some guy from the last said these:
Le Labo - Bergamote 22
Tom Ford - Tobacco Vanille
CB I Hate Perfume - Winter 1972
Heeley - Sel Marin
Parfums de Nicolai - New York
Bond No. 9 - Andy Warhol

Were "amazing" fragrances, and reading up on them got me curious. Are they really that good? Was thinking about getting some samples but wanted to know.

I was merely miffed that they didn't have the Eau de Baux because after checking out the scent structure I was really interested in it.

what are some otherwise expensive fragrances that are now fairly cheap because they are being discontinued?

>> No.10560678

>>10560343
Not sure what you mean. Stuff gets sold cheap (and maybe discontinued) if it's not selling well, but it doesn't get cheap because it gets discontinued. If anything a discontinuation will drive the price up.

There is pretty cheap in-production stuff that used to be kind of prestigious, where the producer lowered the price and went for volume. Most Calvin Klein products, Polo, Lacoste, Azzaro. A lot of drugstore-tier fragrances are like this.

Or do you mean you want to buy it relatively cheap now, and then re-sell it in when the market dries up?

1ml is enough usually, especially if it's going to be a stronger winter-type fragrance. Recently bought some 2ml's thinking 1ml wouldn't be enough but it wasn't necessary. Having said that, if it's something you already know you like it can be worth buying 2-3ml to wear around for a while and see how they make you feel when you wear them/how they match with your wardrobe.

usually don't come in spray vials, you'll have to dab them on. double check where you are copping from to see what's up. there isn't too much of a difference but performance seems a little bit weaker dabbing than spraying and, paradoxically, and there is more of a danger of overapplying. olfactory fatigue seems to come quicker, too (so maybe it's not a case of weaker performance? it's hard to tell).

anyways, i can typically get a week out of 1 mL (3-4 applications a day, 5 days a week). this goes for both spraying and dabbing.

I was shocked after spraying this on my arm for the first few minutes, it was akin to something you would find in some kind of bargain bath gift set from TJ Maxx. the ones in op are likely the best. personally i've only used luckyscent and decantshop. their websites are clearer and cleaner, though the other two have good reps (being American, i have no knowledge with perfumista.co.uk).

luckyscent exclusively deals with niche stuff, though. the other three favor niches, but have a pretty good selection of the higher-tier designer stuff

oh, and prices are more or less the same among them. luckyscent can be $1 cheaper a lot of the time, and regarding Amouage (and i think Maison Francis Kurkdjian, too) their sample prices can be ~50% cheaper compared to others.

and regarding Tom Ford Private Blend, decantshop can be a bit pricier on certain scents from that house compared to theperfumedcourt and surrendertochance (luckyscent only offers TFPB samples if you buy a bottle of a TFPB scent)

>Bergamote 22
God-tier citrus scent, but unisex, maybe leaning feminine slightly if that's not your thing
>Vetiver 46
smells simlar to CdG 2 Man, so if you want to save some dosh, consider that. same creator, Mark Buxton, and many have said that Vetiver 46 smells like a prototype for 2 Man he dusted off and dressed up a little; fwiw i prefer Vetiver 46
>Rose 31
Le Labo's most praised and successful scent. one of the most dynamic frags i've tried as the spicy rose gives way to a nice vetiver over the course of ~8 hours. unfortunately, i don't really like rose or cumin/caraway so it's not for me.
>Santal 33
many love it so i list it here as it fits your vague guidelines, but i personally hate it; smells like dill to me

sample first, ofc. go to a high-end department store and ask for samples, or you can buy direct from Le Labo but it's going to cost $6 a piece for 1.5 oz. spray vial (and you really can't them cheaper that)

How do you get your scents to last longer?

I love Jo Malone fragrances but they are only produced as colognes. I get a slightly longer lasting effect if i spritz it onto my hair and clothes but I wonder if its bad for the health of my hair or clothing.

As an aside, how strongly do you feel about changing fragrances to suit weather? My favorite Jo Malone scents are light (Nectarine Blossom and Honey, Blackberry and Bay, Wild Bluebell) and seem best suited to the heat of summer. Its getting brisk now though and apparently I should be wearing 'warmer' or 'deeper' fragrances or something to reflect the change in weather, but I feel complete ambivalence towards the appropriate scents. I've always had a preference for light, airy, an *cool* scents. If any of that makes any sense to you.

Look those up on Fragrantica and see if they are your thing; I've not come across anything negative about the house.

As for being a newbie or not, it absolutely doesn't matter. You can jump right into niches without having to gain experience with a bunch of designers. For some reason people see niches as more advanced, more likely to be acquired tastes, and that is complete bullshit.

As said, try moisturizing before application. Also how many sprays? If just a couple, try more as long as your projection doesn't go nuclear. And last, try hair and clothes, keeping in mind that some frags may stain clothes so keep it light and if you really care, test first. One misting of perfume on hair shouldn't have any impact. I wouldn't soak my hair in it, as the alcohol would likely strip the hair of its natural oils and dry it out, but one light spray? Go for it.

And re: weather: wear what you like when you like with appropriate application. Summery scents tend to be lighter, and may get "lost" in your winter layers and the cold winter air.

I'd rather someone spend $300 on a bottle of Amouage in an "educated" fashion, rather than "ooh this smells good." Same reason I'd recommend a wine newb develop their palate before buying $100 bottles, or a first time car buyer buy an Aston Martin. Would like a practical day-scent for overall wear throughout the day. Preferably not too complex, but not plain and boring. Just not something that's insanely complex.

I love The One by DG as well as YSL Homme La Nuit. Also got DHI but that's very intense.

I don't want to go for Acqua di Gio since I know so many guys that wear it around here. Consider a student budget, but I don't mind splurging on something that's interesting, but Creed for example is too much.

Climate-wise I live in southern Sweden, so decently cold winters and decently warm summers. It'll be used mainly indoors where we got pretty low humidity and around 18 degrees celsius.

it has white amber listed as the primary note. knowing the smell of amber, i knew that this "white amber" was that note i was smelling. i liked it a ton. then i just assumed it is a thing without looking into it further.

Cool, but I wonder what "white amber" is in perfumery. In fragrance, amber is a "fantasy" note derived from mixing vanilla and resins (usually labdanum) and not actually from or directly based on the smell of fossilized tree sap; it's the inspiration for the note and little more.

a sexy scent that's not too weird or repellent. Basically a signature scent that I will feel confident with, that people find nice and sexy, nothing too far out but not something boring that literally everyone has. Can still be sephora tier, just not 1 million and the like. Has to have good longivety

Bleu de Chanel was too citrusy in a boring way on me, I liked the longivety though. L'homme is nice I suppose but looking for something that's even better, also the longivety and sillage aren't good enough. Gucci Guilty Black and Calvin Klein free were both pretty bad and synthetic.
>liked
Not tried too much, liked eau savage de perfume and l'extreme, aventus, silver mountain water (or virgin island?), I really liked Jazz Club by margiela because of it's coziness but longivety was terrible. Burberry Brit was kind of nice.
>disliked
in a way I loved tobacco vanille but it has a mature vibe that I can't pull off yet, just like some fragrances from Chanel, Guerlain etc. Bleu was too citrusy and boring like I said, not bad though
Cool water was a little too uninteresting as well

Timbuktu - Another favorite where I've received compliments. Almost more than Santal 33
Interlude Man - Been told it's waaaaaaaaaaay to strong and overbearing. Good scent, but can turn people off.

The thing is, these are the notes I know I've tried and liked, but there are lots of fragrances that people around me have worn or that I've just smelled at random places that have had the mindblowing sexiness I'm looking for, and those don't necessarily include these notes, I have no idea just have vague memories. Suggestions don't even have to include those notes at all as long as they fit my other criteria. I have done note search on fragrantica and found some stuff I'm probably going to sample. But because of the notes I searched for, they were all pretty warm, wintery, boozy scents, I'm not even sure that's what I'm going for; like I said I just want something nice and really sexy. A*Men is probably my biggest swing of opinion in fragrances. I remember the very first time I sprayed it at a store I remarked it smelled like cotton candy. Strange, because I don't think it resembles that now. I did not like it at all the first 10-ish times I tried it over the course of a couple years. Thought it was too strong, the tar note dominated too much, it had no subtlety, was poorly constructed, etc. Then one day it just clicked with me and I love the tar note now. I would never wear more than two sprays now, maybe three if I was going to be outdoors for a day. My main complaint now is that it isn't too versatile, but I still crave it once a month or so. The patchouli is expertly used here, and every so often in the drydown it reminds me of chocolate chip cookies.

It's very long lasting actually, BUT the olfactory fatigue will get you, so be careful with reapplying. I applied after thinking it was gone but one day the lady at the coffee shop asked me what I was wearing, I was confused because I couldn't smell it. She said she could (and that I'm not supposed to smell it myself lel) then proceeded to say that when I waled in through the door she got a waft from the gust of air. Off the bat I knew that I sprayed too much but I guess it's not overpowering enough to give people headaches. She also told me that she's heard women remark on how good I smell and told them it was me.

I've gotten 2 compliments from Insurrection II, and 1 from La Nuit. I don't get complimented often. The other compliment from Insurrection II came from a friend, she just said I smelled good.
