10583060 No.10583060 [Reply] [Original]

Last one reached 300.

Based on the last thread, it seems Montreal was the effay large city while Ottawa was the most effay smaller city. Other notable mentions include Calgary and Victoria. Any concluding thoughts on Canadian cities?

I was thinking this thread could look at stores and individual neighbourhoods.

In Ottawa:
-NRML
-Simons in Quebec (basically french version of Nordstrom but cheaper with more street wear brands. Comme des Garcons and HBA etc)
-Top of the world (On Rideau, mainly skate type stuff but tons of streetwear)
-Neon (In byward market, all streetwear)

As far as neighborhoods go stay away from the Glebe. Its filled with white pseudo hipster fags.

Ottawa gotta stop pretending to be a smaller city.
As far as Canadian cities go, it's a big one. Over a million people.
Most /fa/ smaller city would be Victoria, Halifax or St. John's.
Toronto is shit.
Calgary is shit.
Edmonton is shit.
Vancouver is rich but good.
Montreal rulez.

Unfortunately most things in life set you up into a stereotype. I travel a whole bunch and I interact with a lot of people. I met a guy in Texas who had a law degree form some other state up north. 5 years after living there he wears cowboy boots and has the accent. Our environment affects us, for the better or worse, but it happens. True authenticity is very hard to come by. You think you're special and unique because of your gothninja/SLP/homeless whatever the fuck fit, but in reality there are thousands of others who had the idea to dress like that. Especially in the modern day and age when you can google any fucking style you want, find a billion pinterests and tumblrs dedicated to certain looks, you can be anyone anywhere whenever you want.

Do whatever the fuck you want senpais, anywhere you want. You wear the clothes, not the other way around.

Toronto is nowhere near as shit as people say. It was in the 70's but it's 2015. Things have changed.

Hmm I think that's misleading. Canada has a rich and varied culture, which make our country great in its own way. We have very few cosmopolitan cities that fit into modern culture, but that does not mean the country is devoid of culture. Our culture is a rural one, and our fashions are rural fashions. Bundling up for winter with flannels, wool and furs is part of our national fashion, oilskins are part of our fashion, all kinds of boots are part of our fashion. Parkas are Canadian as fuck.
We also have an amazing art culture from rural Canada, from paintings to poetry, novels to music, this vast land has produced art, both folk and fine, that we should be very proud of.
So maybe, if you think Canada is mainly devoid of culture, you should open your eyes, look in the mirror. Maybe you're the one who's devoid of culture because you refuse to see the goldmine of it that exists before your eyes, above your head, under your feet and beyond, from ocean to ocean to ocean.

Only here for my studies, but I agree w/ previous posters. London is very un /fa/ unless you're trying to channel your inner hobocore/crackaddict look. London downtown where the Farhi bell tower is plays classical music to calm all the hobos down when they congregate there, something straight out of One Flew Over the Kekoo's Nest desu

Nordstrom has a pretty okay selection for high-end menswear. Kind of like Harry Rosen. Their casualwear leaves a lot to be desired though.

Check out Marshall's at Trainyards. I've had some pretty decent luck on stuff like Penguin, Ben Sherman, Jack Spade, and Brooks Brothers.

It's almost like the people on this board are vain and trying to validate themselves or something.

Look at how many people here talk about how people are ugly, how someone's clothes are ugly, how cities suck, how their school is bad, and so on. In all of these things the implication is that they are superior in some way, and since it's the internet they don't have to substantiate anything.

For real though, most of the people here are relatively normal with a few r9k tier retards talking about whether prescription drugs and sociopathic behaviors are /fa/.

Around St. Clair station is relatively cheap and safe.

Parkdale is all over the place in terms of safety, but there are still cheap rentals there.

If you don't mind living in a co-op, there are plenty by the lake at Sherbourne and Front and in the Beaches.

In general it's kind of funny when people talk shit about Toronto all the time and people in Toronto are like "yeah, we know it sucks, we live here", but the moment you make fun of their city they get so butthurt about it it's hilarious. To this day there is still a troll on /trv/ who goes into every single Canada thread and posts about how bad Toronto is.

As for why Toronto sucks:
-Terrible public transit
-Terrible highway system
-Extremely poor urban planning
-Insanely high rent
-Bad housing market
-Polite but cold people
-Expensive goods and high taxes
-Volatile climate with +35 summers and -40 winters
-Consistent gentrification eroding downtown into a husk full of yuppies

I say all of this as someone who has lived here for 23 years. People who blindly talk about how amazing their city is while not acknowledging its weak points are just looking for something to identify with in order to give them a sense of pride, or worse, a sense of superiority.

The east end is great, riverdale/beaches aswell as the junction if you're looking for a affordable places to live that's close to the core. I suggest you get a bike though, public transportation within the city is godawful and city driving is expensive.

I find overall there are some decent neighbourhoods for young people (beltline, kensington inglewood) though they're all getting gentrified to shit. The music scene is good as far as I'm aware, and the city working hard to change its reputation as a backwards city with a cool mayor and good urban planning and policy.

Calgary, Ottawa, Victoria and Montreal are most /fa/
