Weiss Field Watch

Pic is when I first got it. It went for it's second flight on a CH-53E today. Would have taken a pics but both flights this week were night goes. Overall the band has darkened A LOT from the near constant stream of hydraulic oil dripping on me in flight. Whole thing got soaked in jet fuel today too.

Tough watch. 10/10 best $950 I've spent in a long time.

Side note: The vibrations from a 53 spinning make it run fast. 4hrs of flight make for a +1m difference.

If a CH-53E isn't leaking than it means she has run out of oil and you're about to die. It is why we have a manual in flight oil top off pump for the hydrualics and an in flight wobble pump for the engines (they burn a small amount of their oil).

She is basically state of the art 1960's tech, designed in the 70's, built in the 80's, and is still somehow managing to fly today.

no, you cannot.
a watch is a fucking watch, absolutely useless other than matching with an outfit and as a fashion piece. it serves no function that your phone cannot do.
There is ZERO reason to spend thousands on a watch. they're just more durable and higher quality but who gives a fuck about quality on a WATCH?

spending more money on shoes is vital for comfort, fit, and look. a million dollar gold rolex looks just like any other cheaper gold plated watch.

buying thousand dollar designer clothing is just as stupid as expensive watches and neither of those people post here. even then, clothes go through a hell of a beating from washing to fading to ripping if its low quality, all kinds of things. watches don't. I've had an 80 dollar watch for 8 years and still works and looks amazing

a rolls royce is A MILLION TIMES different than a fucking honda or some other piece of shit. far more comfortable, powerful, with more features, professionally done, and makes a much bigger wow factor, not to mention, NO OTHER CAR LOOKS LIKE IT

A nice watch is not for looks, let's get that straight. It's the brand and build quality. Nothing more.

You took just ONE of my arguments in relation to my example of the car and you think that will destroy my argument? I get that you're trying to say "hand built" is worth thousands more, but it's a fucking watch for christ sake... that's my point. A rolls royce is so far beyond a honda, and the fact that it is hand built doesn't even scratch the surface. Like I said, it's faster, more powerful, impeccable interior materials and comfort, aesthetically completely different, far more advanced technologically, very expensive materials, etc. In relation to a watch, spending a lot on a luxury car > shit car. The price actually reflects what they are giving you. Unlike a watch, where it can contain the same materials, the only difference is brand and more durable. Yet it is so insignificant

New to watches, need help with straps.

Can somebody help me with the pros and cons of various straps? Like: Metal, Rubber, Leather, Nato, etc.

Pls help

How well do Nato straps stay on? Are they fairly tight and constrained?

I got a blue orient mako and the band broke so I'm getting a nato strap for it. Whats the best looking ones and also how water proof are they?

>> No.10451710

>>10450954
nato are generally fine since the material is pretty elastic, but they do strap differently and can irritate your wrist if you don't tighten it enough

metal is a bitch to adjust and some you can never get a comfy fit on just because the sweet spot is between two notches, but once you've adjusted it and it fits well it's always easy. Con being they're heavier and more common

Leather, classic, will get visible wrinkles in it, but my favorite. Softer material feels better, tends to hold together better with age if you spend more upfront than others.

Haven't used rubber, but I've heard good things. Easy and a good middle ground between NATO and leather. Might look goofy depending on the strap.

>>10451682
just do crown and buckle, best looking is subjective but I try to do stripes with at least one color matching the watch face unless it's black. As long as you're spending 10 bucks you're gonna get something pretty good, there's no exceptional premium quality nato out there.

Okay, that's nice and all, but let me introduce you to my friend "marginal value." You see, from the perspective of a worker, all hours are not created equal.

From 0800-1700, my time is work x. Nothing's going on, and all my friends are at work too.

Past 1700, I'm missing dinner with my family. Now I'm taking time that actually matters to me to do your fucking work. Damn right you're going to pay me more.

Past 1900, including commute, now I'm going to have to eat shitty fast food. Maybe miss sleep if I have a long commute in the morning. You'd better pay me still more.

Nearly a century ago, Farrer's great grandfather began his career and passion as a watchmaker after losing his leg in an industrial accident. His son, Calvin followed in his footsteps and managed to have a successful career as a watchmaker for nearly 50 years. Fast forward four generations and LunoWear is born. The two watches are absolutely comparable in terms of design philosophy, if not price or movement. Both are tasteless, oversized and unappealing disasters that take design cues from Genta's RO but fail to catch any of the subtleties or nuances.
FYI I visited an AP AD last year specifically to check out the RO and compare it to other divers at a similar price point. Although you are correct in saying that the ROO is very high quality and well made, the design is laughably juvenile and pales in comparison to the elegance of the Royal Oak in stainless.
