Let's play a game /fa/

The rules are simple. Rate the fit above you X/10, and in the same post find and submit your opinion of a true 10/10, god tier fit. This will create a siq chain of great inspo that I think is a little more interesting than the usual dump.

Really like the double cuff that's evenly split between the shirt and the overcoat. Never thought to do that before, honestly. Is there flecking in the jacket? I can't tell, I think this would look much worse with that incorporated. Not a fan of smacking at "see I'm just like you xD" AF1s trying to "balance" the pretenses of a fit whilst only doubling down on them. Also there's no visibility on 30% of the fit and I can't tell what this would look like standing up and actually modeled. It works alright as a still-life though. 7/10?

(Really great thread btw OP, hope this is a new staple.)

A very safe maneuver out of the detail extravaganza playbook. Almost enough small features where it becomes sensual by sheer quantity, but not quite. Almost enough layering where it looks inviting, but not quite. It looks very flat and flippant (but not to the point where it feels cleverly effortless) for having so much incorporated. those are goat-level winter boots though. 5.5/10? I mean sensual because there, for instance, Harajuku styles which are "bad" but are at the same point "good" because they're extremely emotive by virtue of how many movements and bits of intrigue there are--extremely sensuous on the whole. Flat and flippant was meant to describe the failure of the sensual. It looks like "I'll just put everything I have that matches" while lacking any outward motion. It looks stuck and uninterested in going anywhere.

I don't feel this is off track because one of the nice parts of this idea is that people can try their hand at "sustained" criticism. I think people should also be able to discuss the way they talk about clothing as well.

Sorry. Didn't mean to imply that your post was off track. I was referring to the thread being derailed by several posts without photos and the one out of focus high school fit.

You're using a broader meaning of the word sensual than most would, so it might've helped to explain it as you just did but in your first post.

I still don't understand what flat and flippant means in that context. Putting matching things together is somehow displaying a disrespectful attitude? Explain what meaning of the word flat you're going for.

Flat as a counterpoint to sensual. The sensual beckons into a fit. Flat keeps its distance. The fit has a lot going on, which *usually* has it seem very fascinating (I mean this in the passionate fixation sense), but his fit, at least to me, doesn't feel like it wants me to walk in it or touch or feel visually conversational with it.

And no flippant in the sense that there is a certain level of careless composition. Flippant where nothing is intentionally articulated in the way it is. He has kind of a "homeless" (not a prerogative) look to him, a "found fashion" way of putting together a fit, but it doesn't quite succeed.

Thank you for hearing me out.

Thanks for explaining. I understand what you're getting at now. You mean flippant as sort of a failed attempt to be effortless, yeah?

No problem. I just wanted to check to make sure that what I write, while perhaps seen to be too pompous, can't be followed through and found to be a bit more exacting than just "it looks kinda lazy" or "not enough effort put into garment choices." I've written before and people are often too taken in by the aesthetics of the words rather than if they're more comprehensive for their context than other options.

And yah, flippant in that way (although flippant can be good, it's just a very fickle way of putting together an outfit. Kudos for him trying it. He's wearing gamma bleu, so it's not like he can't afford to do lookbook-esque fits.)

I'll be honest, verbosity should be avoided. You're not adding anything to the discussion simply by choosing to use uncommon words and writing a paragraph on one aspect of a fit. It just muddles your main points.

Be succinct. Eloquence is encouraged.

>I've written before
It's funny cause you say this as if you think the way you write is any good. It's totally cringeworthy for literature, for a imageboard it's even worse.

>> No.10413900

I'll strongly disagree with this, but I don't expect anyone on 4chan to back my point up so I'll just let it die as is. I honestly have no respect for the Strunk and White approach to writing, and can definitely see why people enamored with it grow slowly unable to appreciate meandering and intentional stalling/restarting of minor points deemed "officially unnecessary to the point *I* think you're making, and points off for taking too long to get to there."

>> No.10413906

>>10413893
I'm not making an argument as to whether or not its good, I'm saying its valuable. Your reflexive judgement of writing as good/bad speaks very clearly to how little I should think of your opinion.

And the fact that you think writing can't be qualified as good or bad shows how much you understand of it.

>implies writing can't be judged as good/bad
>but 'valuable' is fine
>as in having value
>as if having value is not considered something good
You sound like a hell of a philosopher too.

Seriously, you write like a kid who has just read Nabokov for the first time, got a thesaurus, smoked a joint and decided to post on 4chan thinking he's the shit.
The only value your writing style has is for highschool literature teachers, cause they can print your posts and use them as a study case in classes talking about purple prose. That's about it.

I'll not keep discussing this cause I don't wanna derail the thread, but I swear the only reason I'm telling you this is because you sound like someone who writes or intends to. So I'm giving you a reality check in case you don't ever step into someone that says that to you. Otherwise you're probably gonna be told by all your illitarate friends that what you are doing is good and keep writing like shit for ages.

Also you are not writing a fucking book, you're on 4chan. Nobody fucking talks like you are talking. Idc if you think the way you write is as good as any other way, the people you are talking to are telling you it isn't. That should be enough for you to stop doing that, unless your level of autism is too high.

Idk if you think someone is gonna read that and think "wow how impressive" and want an ego trip, but protip: the only people who are ever going to do that are edgy teenagers who are "into literature" cause they wanna sound smart but have never actually read anything more than the two first chapters of a random silly YA novel, cause these people tend to think this is how it's done. Everybody else is gonna be laughing at you inside.

Take this the way you want, I seriously don't care.

Have a good evening. I didn't expect you to write a wall of text and honestly I'm very sorry to have made you write that all out. I don't like it when I'm having a bit of fun, even at your expense here, but then someone puts serious time into responding. Life is honestly pretty precious and it makes me feel poorly that I had you waste an evening like this. Reminds me that I shouldn't waste my own time putting this on.

I mean yeah, that's just an editorial so it's obviously styled with looks in mind rather than practicality of wear.

Nowhere did OP specify that the outfit had to be daily wear clothing.

Can't rate out of ten without seeing the bottom. I'll rate out of six because I can see the top half and a bit of the pants. Pre-distressing on the pants is bad, don't like the texture of the scarf with that shirt and why is he wearing a crew neck under a button up shirt? Coat is nice though and the scarf looks comfy.
