Post your watch, rate each others, discuss straps etc.

Was waiting to wear in the leather strap on this, but now that I have its still uncomfortable. I think I'm just going to get a new one. Any suggestions?

>> No.10318159

I think no matter what strap it is: leather, nato/textile or metal bracelet, it's all uncomfortable shit compared to based silicone straps.

so, maybe it's crazy but you might as well find one that matches that watch and there are even ones that slightly resemble leather straps on the outside with stitching and everything.

Silicone is comfortable, but not as comfortable as nato or perlon straps. Also, good leather straps start out stiff but become extremely comfortable with a bit of wear.

Copping newbie here,

I'm looking for a brown leather band watch, with a low-profile watch, that you can wear with t-shirts but also suits. It shouldn't be one of those huge things.

I've been looking through my local assortment a bit, is Fossil a decent brand? Most of them are too over-the-top for my likes, but some are fairly simple. Any advice is welcome.

don't buy Fossil. buy a low-profile quartz Seiko, Lorus (they are Seiko too), Timex or even Casio analog watch. go to amazon's watch sortiment and see what you can find.

you can search there how big the case diameter is supposed to be, if you want a watch with a date window and what color or material your strap should be.

Seiko 5s start at like $50 but I think they're kind of cheap and not that great honestly, mine is disappointingly fragile and I rarely wear it anymore. Seiko is definitely my favorite brand though especially in the sub-$500ish price range though so I'll stick with that: an SKX007 with an aftermarket bracelet (~$200 total) or a SARB033/035 for just under $300 would probably serve you much better and either watch could be your one and only watch for like 99% of situations.

>>10322033
Cheapest good chrono if you want mechanical is probably a seagull 1963 and that's probably going to be 200 yurops or more. If you're ok with quartz then just dig through the Seiko and Citizen selection on amazon or something, they each have like a million variations of quartz chronos. I hate Bauhaus shit but I guess you could probably get that rodina that everyone else has. You could maybe ask Reddit about that if you want a more detailed opinion. That's not really an insult either, /r/watches literally loves Bauhaus watches and they would probably help you more.

Hamilton Jazzmaster Traveler Black GMT

(note, there's also a GMT 2. don't get that. dial's much more casual.)

about $700 on amazon.

42mm. seen the thickness listed at 11 or 12mm... so it should be alright with the cuff of a dress shirt. i'd prefer a dress watch to keep it closer to 10mm, but that's me.

unfortunately, i think it comes with a chocolate band.

back dial + gmt + dress watch don't generally go hand in hand in hand.

if you drop the gmt requirement, you can find something much more elegant. that hamilton can function as a daily wearer.

Didn't get a response in the other thread, need some help.

What do you guys think about getting this with a white nato band? Or will it get dirty too quick? Maybe another color would be nice with the dial?

it was a company that used swiss mechanisms and their own casings, and sold their watches mostly exclusively to yugoslavia.

I've been looking at Timex, and Lorus for leather band watches. The Timex look nice, less over-the-top than Fossil, but quote pricey. The Lorus on the other hand have very nice faces and are cheaper than the Timex.

You think pic related with a dark brown leather band would be a good every-day watch to wear?

And also I should mention some more about it, I guess. It's a modern remake of a watch which Seagull was commissioned to make as the pilot chronograph for the Chinese air force in the 60s. The remake uses the same movement as the original, it's a seagull ST-19 handwinding movement. The movement design and all the tooling used to make it were purchased from a Swiss company called Venus which was going out of business, so it's basically a vintage Swiss-designed movement with some changes and upgrades made by Seagull and manufactured by them in China. It's a beautiful watch and pretty cheap and a pretty nice looking movement too and it's even a column-wheel type chrono which is the nicer sort of chrono movement, however it's sort of unreliable and prone to showing up DOA because of the usual lax chinese quality control.

i hate skeleton and open heart watches. and i know nothing about this brand. that said, the design is thoughtful and on the whole it's much better looking than it has any business being.

those scalloped cuts around some numbers is what makes it. i want to say a plain black or silver bezel would look better, but maybe those repeating hashes are contributing to the gestalt.

anyway, it's disgusting, and i'd never buy it, but it's sort of interesting to look. with so much going on, i'm surprised it holds itself together as well as it does.

would be interested to see it with a black strap though.
