Rich guy gave me this new Armani leather jacket and I was wondering if it's fake or real? Asking because I fucking hate people trying to show off with fake phones/clothes/watches etc.

I've read on internet that the stitches on logo should be perfect but the ones here arn't but I really can't tell, anyone knows how to tell? Ask for photos of anything.

>thinks armani takes the time to make stitches perfect
Dude, this isn't 1982. Armani outsources their shit to cambodia like everyone else.

Turn it inside it and take pictures of every label
Open up every pocket and, again, take pictures of any panel
Are the snaps/zippers namebrand? They should be
If anything from there doesn't add up then probably have a counterfeit
If it's all legit then you can start checking out the embroidery and comparing it to pics online
Just remember that most luxury clothing is counterfeit so the odds are high

I pay retail and only buy from licensed retailers/stockists, dude...not willing to risk getting something fake
I think like 98% of all Louis Vuitton merchandise is fake

Looks like pic inside, has the logos all over it
Pockets are from same fabric as inside, but no logos
Snaps have Emporio Fashion written in circle twice

I asked specifically about the labels and buttons and zippers because that's usually where counterfeiters mess up
Typos, offbrand hardware, etc

What does the other side of the button say? Any markings?
And it's definitely odd that there is no label

the stitching looks too neat for it to be a fake
does the leather feel like leather or is it plasticky?

Just curious: the Saks off 5th near my house sells suits made with Zegna fabric but they're pretty reasonably priced
What should I look out for before going in to buy one of those suits

What kind of fabric are we talking here? Designer fabric can be nice, but don't buy into the "designer fabric = designer suit" fallacy - you can make a really ugly statue out of perfect marble. Who makes/made the suit? Do you have a photo? Saks Off Fifth tends to sell stuff that couldn't sell otherwise, so I'd be cautious.

In any event, some general thoughts:

- If this is going to be your first (or second, or third) suit, stick with two-button notch-lapel suits that are single or double vented (I prefer the latter for sitting a lot) and that don't have any fancy fabric styling (i.e. no garish colors, no wildly colored buttonholes, no tacky stripes, etc.) This style is the most classic and understated, which makes it the most versatile. Color-wise, shades of blue and gray are almost always OK, black is bad, brown and other stranger shades should be approached with extreme caution.

- Fit-wise, they MUST fit in the shoulder and chest, no exceptions. Most everything else can be shrunk, but not let out. Accordingly, it's okay to buy an off-the-rack suit that fits in the shoulders but that is (moderately, not massively, for proportion reasons) large in the stomach or arms - assuming, of course, you get it immediately tailored.

- Fabric-wise, the higher the number (e.g. "Super 100," "Super 200," etc.) the less appropriate it is for business wear (and the more likely it is to fall apart, for that mater). I prefer as low as 100s just for my own sanity.

- Keep in mind that whatever you're looking at should be compared - in terms of price and quality - to online M2M guys, who do phenomenal work. Check out Thick as Thieves LA, Indochino, Black Lapel, etc.

Emporio has never been called been called Emporio Collection. Higher-end Armani branding is Italian (e.g. Armani Collezioni, Armani Prive, Emporio Armani). "Emporio" just means "emporium". This is a random no-name item that has been produced with confusing branding to trap unsuspecting and uneducated buyers. You see shit like this all over eBay and in junky thrift stores; Emporio GA, EGA, Emporio Collection.

Note that NONE of them use the name Armani because that's pretty explicit infringement. Otherwise, everything is just a gray area.

Hey man thanks for the thorough reply
I have a made-in-Mexico off the rack Joseph A Bank suit (navy three button I think) and am not happy with it. It fits well but the fabric is cheap and I'm looking for an upgrade
I know that there are a few design elements that mark quality in a suit but am not extremely well versed in it, thus the safe option of buying a Joseph a bank suit
I'm definitely gonna out those retailers as soon as I have time to get into their sites thoroughly. Thanks for the advice

It's neither fake nor real - it's a 'legal' copycat brand using similar names as the actual brand.
C'mon man, "Fashion Emporio" should give you a clue.

Regardless, if the guy gave you the jacket for free out of good will, don't be hating on the guy.

My pleasure!

Yeah, I can see why you aren't hugely a fan of the Joseph A Bank stuff, it just feels nasty (and for a few reasons, not limited to the glued-together construction and cheap fabric).

Pretty much anything you get more pricey - even the stuff I listed from M2M places - will feel infinitely better, so you should have a much better time regardless. Good luck!

try a different suit retailer. Joseph a bank suits tend to have a "dad" cut or just be too long and baggy for the shoulder sizes they give. Retailers like J crew, Brooks Brothers, and Suit Supply sell good suits for good prices for their quality. I know that Joseph a bank has good sales, but try to use them only for outerware + accesories.

Oh shit you're back. And yeah there were some good deals at the time....me and a friend went because we both needed suits for different weddings. I was pretty uninformed at the time lol; long time ago though
Welcome back man
