Sounds like you have pretty standard /a/ taste. But as a big fan of Satoshi Kon, I would recommend anything directed by Yuasa if you want to watch some good TV, or more of Oshii's works like Angel's Egg and Patlabor if you want some good movies.

Evangelion had a very mature, and realistic portrayal of the "future" when it came out. Now it actually is 2015 and this kind of style is actually around and looks realistic.

This is the best pic I could really find of the group, but all of their outfit changes throughout the series are very realistic and believable as fashion.

If you liked Ping Pong I'd suggest watching Tatami Galaxy. Yuasa is my favorite director and I love all of his stuff.
You also might like Kaiba, most people think it's his best, it's actually my least favorite, but I just thought it was boring and the questions it explored were better and more entertainingly explored in 'worse' anime as sub plots, such as Yamada-kun and the 7 Witches.

There isn't an easy path to Tezukas stuff for anyone getting into anime today. On the other hand Frontier's popularity has made the rest of the Macross series a lot more accessible. I guess you could make a case for no English release being a barrier but that's not really a big deal in 2015.
