thanks. i dont have much of a routine. i shower in medium warm water and scrub my scalp with my fingernails. i run my fingers through it a little bit and get all the hair soaked while scrubbing, but i dont pull the knots out. if i do, my hair has smoother texture but is frizzier.

i run outside every morning so my hair is exposed to lots of sweat. not sure if it makes a difference.

its 100% length.. but no-poo should theoretically help by weighing your hair down. chances are your genetics mean that your natural "long hair" form is poofy. my hair still has a lot of poof, but yours would have more. its really your curls that you are fighting against. if you waited long enough your hair would probably be similar to cedric bixler (pic related)

fortunately, since you're just growing a topknot, you can continue shaving the sides and just enjoy the poof on top of your head until it gets long enough to tie back. it will take a while.

The opposite is actually true. hair absorbs the natural oils your scalp produces and the more hair you have the more oil you can adsorb. Often times long hair because dry and course because it get's over shampooed very easily.

If you have short hair and you stop shampooing then chances are your scalp is going to produce more oil than your hair can absorb.

Probably a really stupid question but do people thin their hair out with clippers while growing out their hair?
Always wanted to try long hair but my hair is thick as shit.
It takes only a couple of months for it to become poofy and thick and it seems to be mostly at my crown.

I've never grown out my hair but seeing how fast it grows and how thick it is it's a waste not to do it at least once.

Anyone here got good tips for really fine hair, I don't know really any good products to get my hair to stay back properly. Always parts from middle. Atm using some cheap mousse with stronghold for fine hair adding some thickness.

Any other who struggled with growing long hair with really fine type of hair.
