The terrorist association comes from Casio electronic watches being extremely cheap, and optimal for making bomb timers with. Pic related is the watch of choice for bomb-makers and there are pictures of Osama Bin Laden wearing one. Its something like ten or fifteen dollars.

To answer your original question, sure. Just like any piece of clothing or accessory, they can be effay, although it really comes down to how you wear it. I have a very similar watch (not Casio but gets mistaken for one) and I usually pair it with some shorts, low-top sneakers, a white tee or short sleeve button down and a Polo hat. I've gotten several compliments on both the outfit and the watch.

As for which colour you should get, if you're black or have darker/tan skin, gold is okay. If you're pale or otherwise white, get one in silver. Hope this helps.

TBH, I'd prefer a Casio myself, had they still be making them in metal cases, and fuck the sapphire. These new models look absolutely disgusting in person, plastic case looks bad even when they're new, to the point it looks weird with its own bracelet.

So it's either Junghans (I'd rather they were more modest about their logo though) or digging ebay for vintage.

Good thing is digital watch is not on top of my list.

on paper its definitely a nerdy watch. i personally don't think i fit that bill based on how i dress, talk and whatever, and i really like having both analog and digital info from my watch. its a little bit bulky, but i'm trying to switch the resin band to leather to achieve something with a customized feeling so im not too basic ;) ;)
