So, I don't much care about what music is /fa/, as much as the following:
application used to listen
file format
bit rate (if applicable)
organization

what is /fa/?

My current set up is as follows:
library kept on mega.nz for friends, local files played via iTunes
.mp3
320>v0>anything else
Artist, then albums by the artist

but usually i just listen to Boiler Room sets on YT, tbh

pic unrelated, dank pape

Effay music = your music. Be an individual. Having your own tastes and being yourself is the most fashionable thing you can do, because, you will soon realize, no one in the adult world really cares. Don't try to be something your not. But the only stipulation to this is don't be an idiot. Develop your tastes. Find what you like and then delve into its history and learn more about it. The more obscure the more effay in most cases, only because it makes you seem knowledgable, because holy duck I hope you will be.

I'm being kind of ambiguous here, but hopefully you catch my drift. I could write a paper explaining what I'm trying to communicate right now, but that's too much work for this setting.

>> No.10071128

>>10071120
Tl;Dr: do your own goddamn research on music consumption. Be an individual and actually learn stuff. It's more effay.

If you need a cheat sheet buy a tube amp, a really high quality record player, and do all the setup for that shit. That's what I've chosen to do at least.

The only reason why you don't use lossless is that not using lossless saves disk space, NOT because you can't figure out how to play it.

itunes a shit

i run probably 60% flac 35% 320kbps mp3 and 5% <320 through foobar on my pc, and all flac downconverted to 320 on an ipod classic on the go. i've got 312gb total (~120gb when downconverted). also have a modest vinyl collection, i like having physical copies, and supporting artists you like is always cool.

i use beyerdynamic dt770's (250 ohm) for most stuff, sennheiser hd598's for acoustic/classical, and i also have sony xb-500's for bassnectar. iirc they are the most rumbly headphones ever produced. ipod classic and yuin pk3 for portable listening. not much but they sound incredible for $30. bamboo audioengine a5+ and a wireless polk sub for speakers, with a bellari vp130 preamp that i only use when i want a nice warm tone bc it's warm af. music is ran from foobar through a fiio e17. despite my small vinyl collection i actually don't have a turntable right now. i've been looking at the AT-LP120 because it's not too pricey and has a usb out. any recs?

I use an iBasso DX50 player
Media Monkey for ripping to FLAC for all of my music except that which is only mp3 downloadable. Fortunately, some artists also have FLAC digital releases.

or because lossless is for archival purposes and most people who know anything about music encoding laugh at people who download for "superior listening experiences' or some such bullshit. It's widely accepted that the human ear can't differentiate between lossless and high quality lossy.

The only reason I could see going lossless for everyday listening is if you have one album you play all the fucking time so much that the files would actually experience noticeable degradation.

foobar2000, it's all free and you pretty much build the player yourself with drag/drop tools. there's loads of mods and stuff too, but mine is pretty barebones. my friends looked like this last time he showed me, but that was like six months ago. i know he's got it on a vertical monitor now, which is pretty much just dedicated to the program. so that's cool.

death grips is the first name that comes to mind if you're into that sort of thing. also stuff like burial or massive attack. skrillex's lp recess (and his merch see pic related) is pretty /fa/ imo, way different than his scary monsters days. look into genres associated with microcultures too, like vaporwave or seapunk or witch house. they're cool because they come with a whole aesthetic, rather than being just music (which is a big part of why i love watkin tudor jones' work). i think anamanaguchi is pretty /fa/, but the weeb kind not the rick/raf kind. also on raf, there were like two or three aphex twin songs in dior and i. i'd never really thought of afx as being very /fa/ but then i realized he totally is. i also think classical is pretty /fa/ but kind of hard to get into so i just listen to a bunch of classical versions of anime ost's. check this out it's incredible https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDlW1Dx7douBULZVxiajPCbAjc2qzEzhe (same as what i have playing here >>10071169).

also this song by filthy frank is my fucking jam man, I can't stop listening to it. i really wish he would have kept up the joji project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLzjrc9BFCE

but that's just my opinion tho

i always post and then think of stuff i want to add so i deleted and revised

death grips is the first name that comes to mind if you're into that sort of thing, also fka twigs even though i'm not too into her stuff. also stuff like burial or massive attack, maybe the postal service too. skrillex's lp recess (and his merch see pic related) is pretty /fa/ imo, way different than his scary monsters days. stuff childish gambino's put out after camp is cool, and post-graduation kanye. the devil and god are raging inside me is a classic /fa/ album. look into genres associated with microcultures too, like vaporwave or seapunk or witch house. they're cool because they come with a whole aesthetic, rather than being just music (which is a big part of why i love watkin tudor jones' work).

i think anamanaguchi and porter robinson are pretty /fa/, but the weeb kind not the rick/raf kind. also on raf, there were like two or three aphex twin songs in dior and i. i'd never really thought of afx as being very /fa/ but then i realized he totally is.

i think classical is pretty /fa/ but kind of hard to get into so i just listen to a bunch of classical versions of anime ost's. check this out it's incredible https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDlW1Dx7douBULZVxiajPCbAjc2qzEzhe (same as what i have playing here >>10071169).

lately i've been listening to a lot of harley poe and days n daze and against me!, which isn't /fa/ in the traditional sense but is /fa/ in the confidently not giving a fuck what people think about you sense.

also this song by filthy frank is my fucking jam man, I can't stop listening to it. i really wish he would have kept up the joji project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLzjrc9BFCE

nothing you posted but twigs burial postal service and ye are really /fa/ in the way that this board defines it /fa/ but ur right it doesn't really matter because being truly /fa/ is doing whatever you want

fuck this is a train wreck. meant to quote >>10072667 since i have the opportunity i'll add a small list of names that will sound like a festival lineup, and recommend a dope vaporwave lp to start with because i really don't like floral shoppe and it turned me away from the genre initially.

grimes, crystal castles, odesza, tycho, alt-j, giraffage, nosaj thing, and late unicorn kid

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9L4q-0Pi4E

also try clipping and vampire weekend (particularly the third lp), two artists that are pretty much polar opposites.

>>10073970
also pretty much this, fuck what people think about your music. a strong sense of self and the ability to explain why you like an artist is more /fa/ than liking artists because they're fashionable. for example my favorite band of all time is my chemical romance (party poison is pretty /fa/ imo), and i wear it with pride, i just try not to associate with the more autistic portion of the fanbase.

god i just go when i get on music. i'm sorry.

just look through ost's and op/ed songs, then you can take artists from there. keions (of course) and claris are cool starters. if you want more traditionally band-y bands try ajikan, the pillows, one ok rock (even though they haven't done much weeb stuff, they're just super talented and kind of /fa/).
