My housemate's parents sent her to us interstate on a plane when they had to move house and didn't want to take her with them. There are two reasons I dress the way I do. Firstly, the person who sees me and my clothes the most is me, and I happen to like sewing and punk clothes.

The other reason is that I know I can arrive in any city and if I find someone dressed in a similar way, they are likely to help me out if I need it. I am not able to walk up to just anyone and ask if I can crash the night on their couch.

For the last five years my housemates and I open our sharehouse up to every waif and stray that crosses our path and needs sanctuary. This has mostly been very rewarding. In my experience, the ones that dress like crust punks are far more likely to be the most respectful - I wonder if this is because they are more visually freaky, they can't afford to fuck too many people over due to the fact they are easily recognised. Or they have strong ideas about the community the belong to and/or wish to create.

The people that seem to be more likely to abuse my trust are the ones that blend in. In fact, some people I've welcomed that looked really respectable or fashionable in a really mainstream way, ended up being quite dangerous.

I'm not trying to make any assumptions or generalisations about anyone, this is just an observation of a small number of people, in one small city, over five years.

Uniqlo Mountain Parka, pretty cheap and fits well. It's pretty thin though (pretty much just an outer shell) so if you're in actual cold weather (snow) I'd recommend not copping unless you want to wear a down jacket underneath

Has anyone tried making a patch using a regular piece of a4 paper and spraypaint as a stencil? Or would that simply not work? I dont have my screen printing stuff together yet.

what i do, is put double sided tape on the back of the paper before cutting it out, you you can stick it onto the fabric, and use acrilic paint (covers better on fabric) to paint the stencil on.

depends on the fabric you put it on, some dont hold paint that good, the tricker the fabric the better. not stretchy stuff.
i once tried to get rid or some paintingsoin the back of a jacket, but after hours of scrobbing and scraping with a knife i onnly got them to fade i little. not tried a washing machine, buit should be fine is it could last this, but do try to minimalize washing, and if you do, by hand would be better for any DIY stuff.
do make sure you dont put on the paint to thick, might cause it too crack a bit.

i have seen people use multiple layers of paint, never tried that. so dont know what the results would be.
