Luca Turin's Cartier samples

>Baiser Volé parfum
Baiser Volé (stolen kiss) is a minimal interpretation of a perfumery theme I particularly love, the chaud-froid, to borrow an old-fashioned culinary term. I first encountered it in Jean-Michel Duriez’s magnificent Yohji Homme, a fresh, spacious, cooling accord atop a warm, liquorice-spicy confection. Laurent has streamlined the contrasting pairing to a lily note, which smells very lavender-like to me, on top of a smooth coumarin-vanilla accord, reminiscent of a classic fougère. The familiarity of the materials, the wonderfully smooth articulation between them, and the deceptive simplicity of the structure all add up to an inexplicably affecting monochrome, a sepia photo that in time makes you feel color was uncalled for.

>La Panthère parfum
I have been remiss with La Panthère. I smelled the EdT rather cursorily when it came out, and I did not form a definite impression. Now Cartier has sent me samples and I went for the parfum concentration. I now see what all the fuss is about. It’s beautiful. This said, I have to disclose a personal bias: I am not very fond of big liquor-like rose fragrances. They seem to tickle with a slight discomfort, similar to the feeling I get when touching flock wallpaper. Up close, there is a raspiness to La Panthère that reminds me of both Nahema and Cacharel’s Loulou.

But that is probably not a fair test. La Panthère, like Shalimar, is an action-at-a-distance fragrance, a ballistic device that sends a widening smoke ring of perfume travelling out across the room to its intended target. Both are best judged at ten paces and can feel coarse up close. When I sprayed it on a strip, Tania almost immediately said, “That smells nice,” while I was still struggling with the thunderous bang at my end. In the Monclin, a completely different aspect prevails, a lovely transparent rose with, unusually, a pear accord making up the other half of the fruity-floral. Mathilde Laurent’s mastery of radiance is second to none. This is definitely a fragrance to be worn and used for its intended purpose, not assessed on a strip.

Just hit fragrance #36 and decided I need to burn through all of these before I buy any more… this hobby is too expensive even with sampling

It has been a true pleasure /frag/ despite many of you being sassy, prissy, faggy, pretentious narcissists good luck on your own fragrance journey and retail addiction

I just recently started and yes it is expensive for me too. I'm going to limit myself to nor more than one new bottle a month and then maybe even scale that down later.

Not sure why you fags keep buying full bottles. Even a 3ml sample lasts long enough for me to get bored of the scent around the time I finish it. Then you have your 5-10ml twisty bottle decants too, which are even better.

Okay, bye anon. I love you. Also just buy Layton and be done with it. It's the only good fragrance.

I'm not a poorfag so buying full bottles of shit I like does not present a financial burden to me and I don't need to hoard vials in a box in hopes to make ends meet at the end of the month like you, professor.
